Chicken Jockey Easter Egg Won't Spawn Naturally in Bedrock Edition After 2025 Winter Update

The 2025 Summer Update introduced the chicken jockey as an easter egg, but it does not spawn naturally as intended (unlike other mobs such as the zombie nautilus-riding drowned). Instead, only a baby zombie searching for a rideable entity generates, which prevents the chicken jockey from forming correctly. This bug makes obtaining the "Lava Chicken" music disc disproportionately difficult, as the intended spawning mechanism is non-functional.

Note:

This is not a feature request. The spawn behavior of the chicken jockey is inconsistent between Java and Bedrock Editions after the 2025 Summer Update. Since Mojang has successfully implemented the zombie nautilus drowned, a similar approach should be applied to the chicken jockey.

While it is currently possible to obtain the "Lava Chicken" music disc by killing the baby zombie in setups such as mob farms, this workaround does not align with the intended design of the easter egg. It fails to replicate the ideal experience as seen in the Java Edition, where chicken jockeys spawn naturally and provide a consistent means of obtaining the disc. The expected behavior should involve adding an initial_event to the zombie's spawn_rules and corresponding rideable components to the chicken, enabling natural chicken jockey spawns.

How to Reproduce:

  1. Load a world in Bedrock Edition (post-2025 Summer Update).

  2. Locate areas where baby zombies naturally spawn.

  3. Observe that baby zombies appear alone and attempt to find rideable mobs, but chicken jockeys do not generate.

Observed Result:

  • Baby zombies spawn independently and search for mounts.

  • No natural chicken jockey spawns occur.

  • The "Lava Chicken" music disc cannot be obtained as intended through natural chicken jockey spawns.

Expected Result:

  • Chicken jockeys should spawn naturally like other rideable mob variants (e.g., zombie nautilus drowned).

  • Killing the baby zombie in a chicken jockey should reliably drop the "Lava Chicken" music disc, matching the easter egg's design.

The disc can be obtained by introducing the baby zombie to a chicken and then when it rides it, killing it. I have not seen any natural chicken jockeys as of the 1.21.111 update on XBOX 1, but I may be unlucky and usually play in peaceful mode achievements worlds. Speaking of which, as of the 1.21.111 update the “Wax On, Wax Off” achievement has not yet been updated for the new blocks.

Also, you need to kill the baby zombie and do not need to kill the chicken.

The lava chicken disc is actually quite easy to farm in Bedrock Edition. Use a zombie dungeon spawner. Set up a chicken in a minecart under a trident killer where the trident can hit the jockey but not the chicken. Use water to push the zombies near the chicken in the minecart and place magma on the floor around the minecart. As the adult zombies die any jockeys will jump onto the chicken and then get killed by the trident, dropping the disc. A zombie spawner farm like this should produce about 2 discs per hour.
