Updating from 1.21.114 to 1.21.120 Deleted all my data...

Whenever a new update is available, the game automatically updates, however this wasn’t the case for update 1.21.120.

I know there are tons of reports and videos about this issue right now, but when this happened to me back on Wednesday during the global Microsoft issues, there was no info on it, I was left in the dark…

Around noon on Wednesday, I was actively in the game testing my addon. I had scripts and entity files open on my VS code, as well as a Blockbench model since I was actively developing and testing things. At some point I noticed that the marketplace was down, and I couldn’t edit my profile? I’m pretty sure this was the case, because of the global Microsoft issues, but regardless, I also noticed my game had not updated yet, which I thought was strange. I opened Microsoft store and viewed my library, and no update was shown? So I press the “Check for updates“ button to see if an available update would appear, and little did I know that pressing this button would cause me to lose EVERYTHING…

The Microsoft store after a few seconds found an update for Minecraft, and automatically began updating the game, even though I was still actively in the game.
My Minecraft crashed and I received a Windows error on my screen “Unable to run program“, Minecraft removed itself from my taskbar, all my code files turned red and were marked “Content deleted“ and I couldn’t open any of my models in Blockbench. In a panic I pressed “Cancel“ countless times to stop the update, but it was too late, the game had already removed itself for some reason?

However, despite this, the Microsoft store failed to update, Minecraft had a red “Retry“ option, and no matter how many times I pressed it, it failed to update? I concluded that this was the case because I still had the code files open on VS code, so I copied and pasted them to a new notepad to save them, and I closed VS code. After this the game was able to finish updating. And when it finished, I opened the game to find that I was signed out.

When I signed back in, my skin was missing, I had no addons installed, and all of my worlds were gone…

I’ve spent hours over the past few days searching my entire PC, all my drives, my recycle bin, and I have yet to find a single trace of my data?
All of my addons I’ve downloaded gone, all my worlds I’ve spent hours playing in over the years gone, and most painfully all of my addon projects I’ve been developing for years gone, countless hours spent over many months GONE!

I’ve tried using 3 different file recovery software's to attempt to find my lost data, but none have succeeded.
I’ve accepted that everything is gone forever, and there's no way to recover it. But I’m still trying to figure out what happened to it?

I’ve read the Microsoft article about the UWP → GDK and how I can simply copy over the files to the new location, but the problem is that the old location is GONE! What happened to it? I’ve watched videos online where people can find all their old files in the old location and copy & paste it into the new location, but I CAN’T BECAUSE THE OLD LOCATION IS GONE! WHY!?

I hoping someone can explain to me why this happened? Where my files disappeared to? Can I ever recover them? Why they don’t show up as deleted files?

I’m extremely distraught over this, depressed, and above all disappointed. All of this could have simply been avoided if Mojang or Microsoft added a simple warning pop up stating “Warning! This update changes the file location for user data, it is recommended you back up your files to prevent data loss!“ But no…. No warning… Nothing…

My files are gone, I’m depressed, and I don’t know what to do…

“Edit“: Since making this post, I thought of something that might have contributed to this? Before installing the update, months ago I moved my files from my C: Drive to my D: Drive. I went into settings → apps → Minecraft and I “moved” the data since my C: Drive was getting full. So my com.mojang folder with my data was encrypted. Not sure if this helps with solving\recreating this?
