"Screen Animations" Setting Gets Reset After Updates And Restarts

Issue

Sometimes, after loading up Minecraft Bedrock Edition, the setting “Screen Animations” (Settings > Video) is reset to the default state of “Enabled”. I have noticed this behaviour for the last 4 updates, and between them, after loading up my Windows 11 and Windows 10 PCs, the setting has been re-enabled. No other settings have this same issue, but it appears that the state of “Screen Animations” has some persistence issues.

Reproducing

This one has been really hard to reproduce, as I have only been able to consistently notice the incorrect behaviour after new updates. It’s worth noting that I launch Bedrock directly by searching for “Minecraft” on Windows rather than going through the launcher. I have tried restarting my computer and the game, and it seems to happen more often after a crash (even if the setting has been enabled for multiple other restarts). I am an addon developer, and I do use `/reload all` quite a bit, which may somehow be a contributing factor.

Other Notes

This is only seeming to be an issue more recently specifically with opening chat to type a message where you have to wait for the UI to open before being able to type, whereas on Java you can immediately type and have all inputs captured. A fix would of course be having “Screen Animations” remain persistent, though this might be a hard issue to track down if it’s only on some crashes/restarts/updates.

If you have the NVIDIA app installed, ensure that it is not set to optimize games or Minecraft. When game optimization is enabled, the app adjusts settings based on what it determines is best for your system.
