can't input text

Having an issue with the game detecting my keyboard when I try to type in the following - game chat - crafting - anvil - chat - signs. I'm able to play the game fine but can't communicate in multiplayer or quickly find what I'm crafting. - I also recently made a new world wile deleting the game to reinstall and found out I can't name my worlds or type in a seed or search for players gamertags looks like typing is bugged through out the whole game
