When Golden Dandelions were initially introduced in Java, it was specified that the main way to obtain the flower was by crafting them using a Dandelion and Gold Nuggets. On Bedrock though, since the Golden Dandelions are almost mechanically identical to regular flowers, they can be duplicated using Bonemeal.
Since Java doesn’t have the feature allowing you to duplicate flowers in this manner I believe this might be an oversight on the Bedrock side of things. Of course I could be wrong and this could in-fact be the intended behaviour, but what made me initially view this as a bug was looking at the game’s history in regards to “Golden” items. Historically, Golden variants of plants have generally not been easy to duplicate without being directly crafted by the player, or obtained through trading and structure looting. If this unspoken “rule” also applied to Golden Dandelions which are also a Golden plant variant, then it would make sense for them to be placeable but not Bonemealable.
Steps to Reproduce:
Obtain both a Golden Dandelion and Bonemeal (in creative preferably).
Place the Golden Dandelion around a large patch of grass with minimal foliage surrounding it.
Use the Bonemeal on the Golden Dandelion multiple times.
Expected Result:
Nothing happens because Golden Dandelions are primarily meant to be obtained via their crafting recipe.
Observed Result:
The Golden Dandelions can be endlessly duplicated once Bonemeal is used on them while placed.
I currently don’t have a video of my own to record of this issue but, YouTuber wattles also noticed this strange behavior in a recent video of his at 10:59.
