Cannot join multiplayer invites when the game is opened for too short and Character Creator cache is too big

When players of Windows tried to join the invite while the game is closed, the game opens, and after signing to Microsoft account, the game then yields error if the skin is not loaded before joining the invite.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Make sure you have a Windows PC and a second device, is on a Custom Character on the Windows PC, with Minecraft closed on the Windows device from steps 2 to 9, and make sure the Windows PC is rebooted before doing step 2 onwards.

  2. Open Minecraft on the second device

  3. Click Play

  4. Open a world

  5. Open the pause menu

  6. Click Socials

  7. Click Send an Invite

  8. Select a player that is on the Windows PC

  9. On a Windows PC and Minecraft closed, accept the invite

Expected results: The Windows PC should accept the invite and join in the world hosted by the second device as soon as the game opens.

Observed result: If Character Creator cache is too big on The Windows PC, then it yields “There is an issue with your skin“, “Armor” error after the game opens and signing in / when it attempts to accept invite, even if the “skin” is actually a Custom Character.

Workarounds:

Method 1, wait for the character to load:

  1. Open the game

  2. Wait for the character to load in the title screen before accepting invite.

Method 2, deleting the cache folder:

  1. Locate %appdata%\Minecraft Bedrock\premium_cache, assuming you're on the Windows PC

  2. Delete persona, the game will build it again.

Sure. Still an issue as of 26.3, I was going to upload the original video but didn’t because this issue could be reproduced without video proof. But make sure the PC is rebooted before reproducing the issue, however any skin or character (including default ones) are affected. I suspect the issue stems from the Platform Restriction (or in this case Multiplayer Restriction) acting up when the skin is not fully loaded.

I’ve uploaded the proof reproduced at 26.3, with no global resources activated, shown below:

Specs for reference: Lenovo Legion GO (AMD Z1 Extreme, 16GB RAM).

It might depend on the device speed.

Specs for reference: Lenovo Legion GO (AMD Z1 Extreme, 16GB RAM, 7500MT/s), WD_BLACK SN770M 1TB NVMe SSD

Please also note that you must restart the PC before step 2 and avoid opening the game after that until step 9.

Hi there!
Thank you for your report!

Could you please provide more details or/and media files. As we have no repro of this issue.

  • Are you able to test if the issue also occurs on a other device than Lenovo Legion GO?

  • Could you check if the issue still occurs on the newest version?

  • Have you tried to reinstall the launcher/game (Remember to create a backup)

I can reproduce the issue on my desktop PC (AMD Ryzen 3700XT, 64GB DDR4 RAM (because some of my models in CAD software require a lot of that)) Minecraft is installed on Samsung 990 Pro 1TB PCIe 4 SSD. I open the game from the Start menu and install the game via Microsoft Store by the way.

However, reinstalling the game on my desktop PC and wiping the saves, and then restoring the backup one by one (which includes worlds, self-made add-ons, and then cached Marketplace contents) solves the issue until a couple restarts.

On my Legion GO, just wiping Character Creator cache (which worth 68MB) works around the issue, even after rebooting, but building it by previewing too many item through the months may or restoring it makes the issue come back (after reboot). I will be updating the Steps to reproduce to remove mentions to Classic Skin until I caused one.
