Atlas compositing fails in Vibrant Visuals

Atlas compositing is the ability of atlas definitions to compose a single texture using multiple texture references via layering. This is enabled via "additive": true in an atlas tile and using an array for textures. Atlas compositing works with fancy graphics but does not work with Vibrant Visuals.

The hobbyist (and — to some extent — professional) that knows about this atlas feature is especially passionate about this bug being fixed. The behavior of this feature in ray-traced graphics has not been tested.

Incompatibility with Graphics Mode Switching

(Likely) tangent to this report is that atlas compositing doesn’t work at all if the in-game graphics mode toggle is enabled. It must be disabled to test this report.

Demonstration

The attached screenshots demonstrate this issue. The composition is supposed to define the Vanilla apple icon layered atop the Vanilla obsidian texture. This works in the fancy graphics screenshot but only renders the obsidian texture in Vibrant Visuals.

Reproduction

This issue can be reproduced using any atlas composition in Vibrant Visuals. The feature will never work in that graphics mode.

The demo screenshots are taken from the behavior pack in the attached world for convenience. This world can be opened (in Minecraft Preview) for inspection or unzipped to access the code associated with such.
