Slimes and magma cubes jump randomly and do not avoid damaging blocks. Sulfur cubes are behaving the same as slime and magma. I believe that is intended behavior.

This was always in the game, slimes and magma cubes also do this. They jump in a random direction no matter the obstacles or dangers in the way.
