The bug
When a sulfur cube spawn egg or bucket is used on the side or bottom face of a block, such that the mob spawns in midair, the sulfur cube plays a quick squishing animation. When spawned on the ground, there is no such animation.
How to reproduce
Build a pillar of blocks
Use a sulfur spawn egg on one of the blocks
Expected result
The cube should fall with no animation
Observed result
A squishing animation plays as it falls

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.
Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behaviour, but it will not be fixed right now.
