Description:
Since the introduction of Sulfur Cubes, many spawning-related bugs have been fixed in Bedrock Edition, including incorrect space detection and spawning on Peaceful difficulty. However, the light level requirement for Sulfur Cube spawns remains inconsistent with Java Edition. In Bedrock, Sulfur Cubes still require a block light level of 0 to spawn—identical to hostile mobs. In Java Edition, Sulfur Cubes have no light level restriction and can spawn even at light level 15. Given that other spawning mechanics have been brought into parity, this remaining discrepancy is illogical and should be addressed.
How to Reproduce:
Locate or create a sulfur cave biome in Bedrock Edition.
Ensure the spawning platform has a block light level of 1 (e.g., using a single torch placed at a distance).
Observe whether Sulfur Cubes spawn.
Lower the block light level to 0 and observe spawning again.
Observed Result:
At block light level 1, no Sulfur Cubes spawn.
At block light level 0, Sulfur Cubes spawn normally.
This behavior matches hostile mob spawn rules, not the unrestricted Java Edition behavior.
Expected Result:
Sulfur Cubes should have no light level requirement for spawning, matching Java Edition behavior.
They should be able to spawn at any light level (0–15) in appropriate biomes.
This change would complete the parity effort for Sulfur Cube spawning mechanics.
Additional Notes:
Given that other aspects of Sulfur Cube spawning (space detection, difficulty requirements, biome restrictions) have already been synchronized with Java Edition, the light level requirement appears to be the final remaining parity issue. Keeping it at 0 unnecessarily restricts farm designs and creates cross‑edition inconsistency. This should be updated to match Java’s unrestricted spawn logic for a consistent player experience across both versions.
