Reflections from the daytime sky cause blocks to appear washed-out when Vibrant Visuals is enabled.

With reflections on when Vibrant Visuals is enabled, most blocks exposed to the sky also naturally reflect its blue color on their surface during the day. Unfortunately, even though this is intended, the intensity of those sky reflections is too high causing all vanilla blocks to appear washed-out or faded.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch Minecraft

  2. Open “Settings” and navigate to Video > Mode

  3. Confirm Vibrant Visuals is the currently selected mode

  4. Under “Preferences” confirm that Reflections is set to “Low” or higher.

  5. Create a new world with the “Always day” setting enabled or use the attached test world.

  6. Navigate to a forest biome (Oak and Taiga work best).

  7. Set “Reflections” to “Off” in Settings > Video > Mode.

  8. Compare the results between Reflections

Expected Result:

During the daytime, reflections of the sky on vanilla blocks although still present are reasonable. Vanilla blocks do not appear washed-out or faded allowing most of them to display their true colors as if Fancy graphics were enabled.

Observed Result:

During the daytime (especially at noon), reflections of the sky on vanilla blocks causes the whole scenery to appear washed-out, milky, or look like someone has placed a white filter over the image, no matter what resolution/quality reflections are set to in Settings.

Leaf blocks and other dark colored blocks are most affected as they often appear pale. In some cases, the sky reflections that are supposed to come from above are rendered on both the bottom of leaf blocks and sides of the block that are not exposed to the sky or to air.

Notes:

This post isn’t meant to label blocks reflecting the sky as a bug, rather it attempts to address the unintended side effects caused by a poor implementation of this feature. The problem isn’t exactly that Vibrant Visuals is doing sky reflections, rather, it's how Vibrant Visuals is executing those reflections.

For more context I recommend looking at this thread from the official Minecraft Feedback Discord server as a lot of the discussion regarding this issue, along with much of the information included in this report came from there: Reflections Cause Overexposure and Wash Out Vanilla Block Colors

I accidentally submitted this too early, so I wasn’t able to attach images directly to the post. Here are the ones I wanted to add below:

Here is a test world that includes a savanna biome, forest biome, dark oak forest biome and taiga biome all-in-one right at spawn for ease of reproduction:

These reflections shouldn't look like this and they can definitely look better.
