Platform
Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Nintendo Switch)
Version: 26.30+ (observed after June 2026 update)
Offline local Switch user profiles (no Nintendo Account required)
Cartridge or digital version (irrelevant)
🧩 Summary
Certain local Nintendo Switch profiles fail to properly initialize the Player Identity / Skin system on game startup. This results in a persistent loading/spinning indicator in the skin preview (main menu).
Affected profiles cannot directly start worlds, and split-screen functionality is broken when the second player also uses an affected profile.
A temporary session-based workaround exists via world creation or forcing the Skin/Marketplace UI, but the fix is not persistent across game restarts.
🔁 Steps to Reproduce
1. Start condition
Use a Nintendo Switch local user profile (no Nintendo Account linked)
Profile is affected (see symptoms below)
2. Main menu observation
Open Minecraft
In the main menu, observe the player preview (above Dressing Room)
❌ Expected: loaded skin
❌ Actual: permanently spinning loading circle
3. Attempt world loading
Select an existing world
Attempt to start it
❌ World does not load (no response or blocked start)
4. Open world settings
Enter world settings menu
Navigate to multiplayer tab
❌ Skin warning appears:
“Skin is not suitable for multiplayer”
5. Split-screen test
Connect second controller / second local profile
Attempt join in split-screen
❌ Joining fails if second profile is also affected
⚠️ If second profile is healthy, it works normally
🟡 Workaround 1 (Temporary Session Reset via New World)
Create a new world with affected profile
Start the world successfully
Return to world selection
Existing worlds now load correctly
Delete temporary world (optional)
Result:
Worlds remain playable
❌ Fix is lost after closing Minecraft
🟡 Workaround 2 (Identity Recovery via Skin/Marketplace Flow)
Attempt to start a world (fails initially)
Open world settings → multiplayer tab
Select “Change Skin”
Minecraft opens Marketplace / Character loading screen
After extended loading time, Skin selection UI appears
Select a default/classic skin
Result:
Main menu skin loads correctly
Worlds become playable again
⚠️ Limitation:
Fix is session-only
Split-screen remains broken if second profile is also affected
Issue returns after restarting Minecraft
✔ Expected Result
Player skin loads immediately in main menu
Worlds start normally without workaround
Split-screen works for all local profiles
Skin changes persist across sessions
❌ Actual Result
Skin preview shows permanent loading spinner
World loading is blocked or unresponsive
Split-screen fails for affected profiles
Skin warning appears in world settings
Workarounds temporarily restore functionality only within current session
Problem resets after closing Minecraft
📌 Frequency
100% reproducible on affected profiles
Profile-specific (same console can have working and broken profiles)
Persists across restarts
Triggered after game restart until temporary workaround is applied
🧠 Key Observations
Only certain local Switch profiles are affected
Profiles are often older (2025/2026) but newly created profiles are unaffected
No Nintendo Account required for failure
Split-screen depends on both profiles being fully initialized
Skin system appears stuck in an “uninitialized loading state”
Temporary fixes force reinitialization of Player Identity system
Issue resets after full application restart
🔬 Suspected Root Cause
Likely regression in Bedrock Player Identity / Character initialization system on Nintendo Switch:
Player Identity cache fails to fully initialize at startup
Skin/Character service remains in loading state
World loading depends on valid identity state → blocked
Split-screen join requires fully initialized secondary profile → fails
Workarounds force temporary session reinitialization of identity state
🟡 Severity
High / Critical:
Blocks core gameplay (world access)
Breaks split-screen functionality
Profile-dependent but reproducible
Requires workaround for basic usability
📎 Notes
Issue is not resolved by restarting console or Minecraft
Issue is not tied to world corruption
Issue is not dependent on Marketplace content ownership
Workarounds indicate session-level recovery only, not permanent fix
Likely regression introduced in 26.30 update
