Open a flat world. Convert a large section of grass to sandstone using commands (I did this because it's better for my redstone testing world.). Open a map. See that all the sandstone displays as grey not yellowish.

I can confirm this is happening because I made a map where a temple is located and it is displayed in gray on the map. Temples are made of sandstone.
