Chopping a cactus vanishes

When you chop part of a cactus, the chopped part may touch the remaining cactus and vanish forever. The same happens if you die from touching a cactus, all your belongs vanish forever!

This problem is extremely easy to replicate. Just walk up to a cactus and drop an item at it. The item will hit the cactus and vanish forever!

This is considered quite normal behavior on the PC version, items also vanish in lava, the cactus just damages it and the item 'dies'.

I can understand that happening with Lava (it's happened to me once), but Cactus is not a liquid, and it doesn't make sense for it to do damage to an inanimate object. Chopping a cactus and losing the chopped portion which lands inside the cactus just defeats the whole purpose, and to lose ALL your items if you happen to die is just plain cruel.

Why not just chop them from the bottom?

I think cactus are supposed to play the role of your typical "spikes" game element, don't see a reason to nerf them...

I never said Cactus shouldn't hurt humans/monsters/animals, that should be the case. I said they shouldn't damage dropped items/cactus.
The reason why I don't completely chop the entire cactus is because I want it to continue growing another 2 pieces.

Here's the thing. You're arguing against something that's clearly done by design, and is done in the "canonical" way. If it were to be changed, can you imagine all the bug reports that would flood in because cacti are no longer damaging drops?

If you really wanted this, you'd probably have to make a great case for why cactus should behave differently in PE than they do in PC... I don't see it happening, because I don't see any potential justification there, but YMMV.
