Several issues after updating. Playing on Samsung Gear VR with a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and a Steelseries XL bluetooth controller.
In living room mode, I can see the tool I'm carrying and my cursor, but when I go into full VR mode, I can't see either. This makes some tools, like the bow an arrow, useless...the game is difficult to play without seeing the tool or block I'm holding. When encountering an Enderman, I don't know how close I am to looking at its head.
Before the update, it used to do this randomly, and I could restart a few times and would eventually see my active tool/block. Now, they are never visible no matter how many times I restart. I have flipped the in-game option for "show hand" on and off to no effect.
In living room mode, the camera/view of the game itself through the "television screen" keeps panning up as if my controller is stuck with the joystick up. In full VR mode, it doesn't do this. I wouldn't care about this if full VR mode were working.

I'd like to add that on my device while in living room mode, the hands/viewmodel are rendered, but entities such as wolves are untextured. their outline is filled with what looks like a static skybox texture. These two visual bugs interchange upon toggling viewing modes, and might be related.

Any updates? I've been having the same issue for about as long as this bug has been posted. I have Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
This issue is still very much happening for me. I'm on s7 gear vr and in immersive mode I cannot see my hands or any held objects etc.
It happens every time in immersive mode now with no exceptions and really kills the game.
This needs to be a top priority patch for the Gear VR version, this issue isn't getting forgot about is it?

I play Minecraft in Gear VR on my Galaxy S8, and I've had a similar trajectory with this issue.
In the past, the player's hand (and crosshair) would occasionally fail to render upon entering VR mode. A restart of the game used to fix this.
Now, after recent updates, no amount of restarting the game or Oculus Home itself will fix the problem.
I concur with Nicholas - it's a glaring glitch, and can make gameplay very difficult.
