her friends version is 1.2.14.3. they had no problem playing together before the april update then after the update then they couldnt join each others worlds anymore.
1.2.14.3 was only distributed via the Apple Store, so I can assume in this case that the friend is using iOS.
The 1.2.14, 1.2.15, and 1.2.16 releases (all only for iOS) were all compatible with the current version of 1.2.13 at the time they were released, but the first two were released when the current version was 1.2.13.54. Since you have now updated to 1.2.13.60, 1.2.14.3 does not recognize your version and won't let you connect. To solve the problem, the friend needs to upgrade to 1.2.16, which is literally the same release as 1.2.13.60.
Unfortunately, the current state of confusion regarding different release numbers for different devices will continue for a little while. The developers are hoping to get them back in sync soon and to keep them that way in the future.
The 1.2.14.3 is the version that her friends xbox one updated to that has all the under water add-ons and such. Her friend plays Minecraft solely on the Xbox one so i guess we just have to wait then for Minecraft to be updated again and hope they can play together again after that. I was told that mojang was"phasing out" the windows 10 version of Minecraft and switching to Xbox one version only? Don't know if that's true but the guy that told me that from Xbox support didn't seem to clearly understand my issue.
Hmmm, I seem to have a misapprehension. I use Windows 10, so I never saw 1.2.14 myself. I was going by the change log, which says it was for iOS only. Given the number of tickets here from Android and Xbox users claiming they were using 1.2.14.3, I must be misunderstanding something, so please disregard my previous comment. I will ask a moderator to comment on this.
Well apparently today her friend decided to uninstall and reinstall her windows 10 edition of Minecraft and when she did that it came back as the same version number as my daughter's. So now they can play together but apparently she'll have to delete her worlds cause the houses and buildings and whatnot are not loading they're just empty spaces? That much i don't understand but my daughter just literally told me that.
I was just reminded by a moderator about the 1.2.14.3 debacle. It was a beta build that was accidentally released to Xbox players. It caused many people to lose their worlds (exactly as your daughter's friend has) because the beta release changed any updated chunks to a new format not supported in the current release. Immediately after the mistake was noticed, the in-game change log was remotely modified to warn people not to open any worlds until the problem could be corrected, but some people didn't see the warning. Ultimately, uninstalling and reinstalling was the way to fix it.
I think that clears everything up, so I'll mark this ticket for resolution now.
The "outdated client" message normally occurs when the device that is trying to join is running a different version of the game. (For this purpose, 1.2.16 is considered the same version as 1.2.13.) The most likely reason you are getting this message is that your kids' friends are running the beta version, 1.5.0. It's not possible for different versions to play together because there are generally differences in communication protocols and data formats in different releases.
If you believe this isn't the cause of your problem, please try to find out what device and version one of the friends is using and let us know. (A single example should be enough for now.)
