Creative Mode Flight

When flying in creative mode several blocks above floor level the game behaves as though there are blocks below the player, resulting in reduced flight speed. The walking sound is also played as though I was walking on the ground instead of flying through the air.

Confirmed on Windows 10 release 1.5.0.0. When flying in Creative Mode, you start out at a reduced speed (possibly walking speed, it's hard to be sure). If you're within two blocks above a surface, the footstep sound for that surface plays, but the slowness happens regardless. Changing your Y position while flying stops any inappropriate sound and increases your speed to normal. However, the problem recurs if you stop and change the direction you're facing, and sometimes even if you change direction while flying. Sprint-flying is also affected.

Note: I was trying out 1.5.0.0 yesterday and noticed this, but didn't report it yet. I'm no longer on the beta so I'm reporting what I observed at the time as I remember it. I've tried to be careful, but take it with a small grain of salt.
