Identical to MC-129907.
When killed by an unnamed mob, the death message displays as
"<username> was slain by <Mob>"
One would expect this to look like one of these instead:
"<username> was slain by a <Mob>"
"<username> was slain by a <mob>"
Named mobs, as well as other players, produce grammatically correct messages.

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.
Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behaviour, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.

Minecraft is referring the name of the thing that killed you slime, because in addition to slime being the name of that type of mob it is also its default name because minecraft puts the name of the slime as slime otherwise the death message would look like this: username was killed by (blank). so it is grammatically correct. It would, in addition, be gramatically incorrect to put username was killed by slime if it was referring to the name of the species because the species didn’t kill that player, a specific mob did.
