slimes won't spawn if there is a block above them

so i made a under ground slime farm in a slime chunk, i check the slime chunk app slime finder to check the start and end to the chunk and its right but nothing will spawn. so i loaded my world in creative to see what was going on and once i cleared all the blocks above the chunk it started spawning. so i thought they needed sun light. but once i put more levels on top they weren't spawning anywhere but the top level even with sun light and 4 block gape between them

It's most likely that the cave mob cap filled up while the roof covers slime farm.

Read spawn mechanics for Bedrock Edition at https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Spawn.

Did you clear ticking area by any method of spawn proofing? Otherwise, use surface method if you do not want to deal with spawn proofing across the simulation distance in cave.

Tested on my console as of 1.6 working

Also, if you are near or by bedrock, the mob spawn doesn't exist. Player needs to be at Y:30 or above.

I am suffering from the same issue. They spawn only when I fill all blocks above them with air. I will play with the issue a bit and try to create a set of commands to reproduce the issue in real-time.

Edit: I created a superflat and flew over it (I flew higher than Y:35) for quite a bit, but couldn't locate a single slime during the day. They were spawning in night, but as soon as I lit that area up, they disappeared. It seems those are swamp chunks... which I obviously can't tell due to the map being a superflat.

I have confirmed that this is not the issue. They do spawn even when there is a ceiling above the area. However, they spawn very rarely no matter what. Place yourself at a suitable AFK spot between 24 and 32 blocks above the floor and wait. You may wish to use /kill @e to kill off all other entities so that the area does not hit mob cap.
