[MCPE-37431] Lost Worlds

On occasion, when I wake up my laptop from sleep and Minecraft isn't responsive, it will close by itself. THIS IS NOT A CRASH REPORT! Although that's annoying by itself, rarely, when I restart Minecraft, I will lose the world I was in when Minecraft quit. I've lost entire survival and creative worlds I've spent 100+ hours in. However, the worlds are still in the worlds folder, meaning Minecraft has never refreshed the worlds list, ever, in the three months I've had the game installed. EDIT: I just reset Minecraft from Windows Settings, then started Minecraft, then closed Minecraft, then copied all the worlds from my documents folder, then started Minecraft. All my worlds are still missing. EDIT 2: I just reinstalled Minecraft, and then followed the exact same steps as above. Still missing. At this point, I may uninstall Minecraft if I can't recover my worlds. Again, they're in the MCWorlds folder. Every single one. I highly recommend adding a Refresh World List button when the world list is empty. EDIT 3: C'mon guys, we're paying customers. Don't treat us like this. Still waiting... EDIT 4: Okay, now I'm slightly annoyed.

IMPOSSIBLE TO REPRODUCE EASILY. It happens randomly after it quits by itself.

Are you able to check that the world folders are set correctly? If they are nested inside an extra folder, then they won't show up in the worlds list.

To illustrate, MCPE-19966 describes a scenario where this would be the case:

games
`-- com.mojang
    `-- minecraftWorlds
        `-- a20GALnDAAA= (folder 1)
            `-- H5MAALzHCAA= (folder 2)
                |-- level.dat_old
                |-- level.dat
                |-- db
                `-- ...

Because the actual save files are located in folder 2, they aren't recognised by the game correctly.

You've said that the saves are still located in the minecraftWorlds folder - could you upload one of the worlds here so we can see if there's anything in particular that is preventing it from showing in the world list?

Ok thanks for the attachment. It seems that the level.dat file has been renamed to level.dat_new. If you edit the name to just level.dat then you should be able to open the world - however, please keep back up copies of your worlds before editing the files, in case something goes wrong.

Also, we will try and figure out why the file name might have changed, and what we can do to prevent this occurrence.

Please note, that some of the worlds are not appearing in the world list. Their level.dat files are the normal level.dat, not level.dat_new. I believe I may have it narrowed down to the level_name.txt file. It says it contains 11 bytes, however, there is nothing in it. I have edited the contents to say "Main World". I will check now to see if it has resolved the issue.

Is it just the one world (world (2).zip) that can't be fixed by editing the level.dat file? Can you tell me anymore about the save, was it edited somehow perhaps?

No, the only things that happened were me editing the level_name file and the game quitting. I really need this world, so anything is appreciated.

It looks as though the world save has been corrupted somehow, but I've copied in the level.dat from a new world, and the world then opens, but I'd need you to look and see if the world is at all recognisable like that:

The world looks like it has some great resemblance, but I think I had over 25XP levels and a full set of armor as well as being on Peaceful. This might be another bug, but when I opened it, there were about 2,000 in game ticks of lag. Also, some villagers were partially black after the ticks caught up.

Also, the seed was 32800 as well as getting a bonus map upon joining. Also, experimental gameplay was disabled

We're working on a permanent fix for this issue, but one user was able to recover their worlds by editing the world save in this comment.

Please keep backup copies of your worlds, and there's a chance that worlds that are in the files but not showing in the world list will become available when the full fix is implemented.

My computer just stopped booting about a week ago, but luckily I had a backup, so I restored it. A few days after that, all my worlds disappeared. They are NOT in the minecraftWorlds folder. They were all safely in the folder the day before. I have not hard booted my computer or anything of the sort. I have also not cleaned my computer.
