I have a realm that I've paid for and everything, but when I attempt to log on, it gives me the "Failed to connect to world" error. No other programs are running at the time. It's the only thing I can play MC on, since my computer lags severely when running a singleplayer world.

There was an issue with Realms connections that should now have been fixed. For any ongoing issues with your Realm specifically please contact Mojang Customer Support.
