My windows 10 edition had a hotfix today (which stated that it was for windows and xbox only). A world that I saved under Windows will no longer open in pocket edition (the same world had previously worked in both Windows and PE). Instead I get the message: "AΒ newer version of the game has saved this level. It cannot be loaded. Unable to connect to world."Β

Thanks, but no I didn't load it on a beta version. The issue is that Windows and xbox are now on v1.7.1 (after the hotfix), whereas other platforms are still on v1.7.0 (because they didn't require a hotfix).
Mark, from what I know the 1.7.1 hotfix actually fixed this same issue from occuring on the xbox one and windows 10 versions. Being on 1.7.1 isn't the reason that this doesn't work.
I downloaded a realm onto my Android tablet and now I get the same message when I try to play that world. The level.dat file says the version is 1.4.2 even though it plays on 2 different Android tablets just fine as a realm. If I change the 1.4.2 to 1.7, it opens and plays for me, until I restart the tablet. Then the world doesn't show up any more.
Thank you for your report!
However, this issue has been closed as a Duplicate of REALMS-1399.
As mentioned in REALMS-1399, we're working on a solution for this currently. Your votes, additional information and observations are very useful, so if you can add them to the comments section of the parent issue it would be appreciated.

I'm also getting the "a newer version of the game has saved this level" and am using the Windows 10 version. The world in question had been used as my realm, but I recently switched the realm to a different world, and now I can't open the original.
I made a backup copy and tried using the Universal Minecraft Editor to do a fix I found by Googling, but the result is the same. Is there any way I can get this world back? I have been streaming it weekly for several months now, really hate to lose it. (Yes, I should've backed it up, thought I had, but apparently not.)
@unknown - Just a heads up that we have now resolved REALMS-1399, which should solve your issue. Version 1.8.1 is now rolling out to all platforms, meaning that worlds downloaded from Realms can be opened in single-player once again.
Did you load the game on a beta version? That is usually the problem. If it isn't, I can't help you.
