Cannot select from all skins in skin packs

Since the 1.8.0 update, I can only select from the first six skins of any skin pack. When I click on the plus sign, I can view all of the skins in a skin pack, but cannot "Confirm" any of my selections. Any thoughts?

Some additional information - All skins CAN be selected at the title screen! The Confirm button is operating properly. This issue only occurs in-game when trying to select skins.

In the attached images, note that Mario can be selected in one instance (prior to clicking the plus symbol to look at all skins in a pack). If the plus symbol is clicked, all skins can be viewed, but the Confirm button is disabled for all skins.

What happens when you try to click Confirm? Is the button disabled, or does it fail to change the skin image above it, or does it change there but when you go back to the menu your skin goes back to the previous one? If you're able to provide a screenshot of the skin picker, that might be helpful.

The Confirm button is disabled. I'll try to attach some "screenshots" (pictures of my TV unfortunately; the Switch will only share screenshots with Facebook and Twitter, but I use neither).

Please bear with me: I'm not very familiar with the Switch, which has complexities because of how it can sign on using either a Nintendo account or a Microsoft account and how purchased content from Minecraft Switch Edition had to be transferred. You might want to review MCPE-34633 for how these complications have affected other Switch users in similar circumstances.

When this issue occurs, are you signed in using a Nintendo or a Microsoft account? I believe you can only use Marketplace content when signed in to a Microsoft account. Also, did you purchase the Mario Mash-Up in Switch Edition and transfer it to Bedrock Edition?

I appreciate any help you can provide, no apology necessary. You are correct; downloaded skin packs can only be accessed when logged in using a Microsoft account. I can confirm that I am using such an account (the skin packs are "locked" otherwise as if they aren't purchased).

I have reviewed the issue linked in the last comment - this is not related to broken textures or particular skin packs. All textures look great, but none of my skin packs are working properly anymore.

I am running Minecraft from the physical game card - I never downloaded the obsolete console edition and so haven't imported anything. The Mario pack (as well as 3-4 other packs) were pre-installed. I have since added other skin packs from the Store. None of the skin packs are working as intended (in that I can only choose from the first 6 skins in each pack).

You've provided good, clean information—thank you for that—but I'm afraid I don't know enough to go further with this. I'll pass it on to a moderator who understands the Switch better. It may be a day or two before he can get to it.

My suspicion is that there is a real bug here that only applies the Switch, I just can't confirm it myself and so far nobody else has reported it (but that could be simply because most people don't change their skin very often).

Thank you kindly. My daughter and I enjoy "role playing" in Minecraft with different character skins, so we discovered this issue immediately 🙂

Auldrick

I'm glad you added that last information about the bug happening only in the in-game skin picker. I'd never used that and forgot it existed (but it also works for me anyway).

This report has been passed on to the developers for a fix. Of course, a fix date cannot be determined at this time.

Thank you!

Just to let you know that I've just come across the same bug with my kids on the Switch. They wanted to change skin and were getting super frustrated that they couldn't pick from the extended list in the skin picker. Thanks to this bug report though, I managed to get them both set up as they liked through the front screen skin picker, so the house is at least peaceful again!

The point is though, you're not alone with this bug!

migrated

Great! Can you tell me how you set up player 2 from the front skin picker? I can only outfit player 1 🙂

Auldrick

You can only change your own skin. To change the skin for a different gamertag, you'd have to sign in to that player's Xbox Live account, which means first you'd have to sign out of your own account. How to do that on the Switch is probably a little different since the Switch has more kinds of account information. I'd suggest starting at Settings > Profile, and if you have the Change Gamertag button there, that should work.

Thank you for the detailed information Auldrick, I'll give that a shot later.

I think this is fixed in the latest 1.9.0 version - is anyone still having an issue applying a skin on Switch though?

migrated

No, the issue has not been fixed. There is absolutely no change in the skin selector used in game. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

I'm not able to reproduce the issue. Here are the steps I am using to change skin:

  1. Load a world on Switch

  2. Press + on the controller

  3. Press Y to open the skin picker

  4. Navigate to an owned skin pack, and select the + button to view all of the skins in the pack

  5. Click confirm to equip one of the skins (The button is accessible in 1.9.0 it seems)

  6. Press B to exit the skin picker menu

Result:

Skin is applied.

The only issue I can see is that now if you try and select a skin from the first six available in the Mario skin pack, then the confirm button is now greyed out, and the whole pack has to be expanded to choose another.

Very strange, as I can reproduce the issue and noted no change following the 1.9.0 update.

Followed your instructions as listed; the Confirm button still cannot be selected. I tried the Mario pack and the "Campfire Tales" pack.

I am running an unmodified fully updated Switch (OS 7.0) with the gamecard version of Minecraft (also up to date).

To add to this: I tried loading two previous worlds, and created one default world. In all cases, I could not select my skin in game beyond the first 6 in each pack. Clicking on the plus sign shows all available skins, but I cannot select any of them.

I am having this exact issue.  Players can only pick from the first six skins shown on the in-game change skin screen.  The confirm button is grayed out.  We follow the steps listed above, but cannot confirm the skin change.  Player one can change their skin on the main screen however.

I am relieved that I'm not the only one Daniel. The latest updates have left the switch version more broken than ever before.

I am also having this issue

Thanks for the suggestion about the front-screen picker. It only worked for the main account though, but I was lucky enough that only one of my kids needed to change skins outside of the first 6.

I'm also on latest Switch firmware, Minecraft 1.9.0, and the Confirm button is disabled in the in-game picker (apart from the first 6 skins). I'm logged into Microsoft. (When I'm not logged in, the skins doesn't even show up, just a progress indicator that never finishes, no information about why).

I am having this problem too

Most of the comments here are for switch, but I have the same issue on Xbox one. I am a developer and will be glad to work with someone to provide more details if it will help.

Affects 1.10

I have this issue too! This needs to be fixed!

migrated

I've found a work around. As mentioned prior, player 1 can select their skin from the main menu and can pick from the entire pack not just the first 6. The issue comes when player 2,3 and 4 want to do this.

To fix this I had to launch minecraft as player 2's account. Select the skin they wanted from the main menu. Then closed the game and re-launched it as player 1. When player 2 then joined the game the skin they had chosen when they launched the game remained.

Note: player 2 will need a nintendo switch (free) online account. (Not a paid online subscription, just a registered account) and then this should work.

Hope this helps

Just to be clear - is the issue only affecting additional players that want to change their skin from the in-game menu?

migrated

I will have to confirm later today, but I thought this issue was fixed with the 1.11 update. I'll post again when I get the chance to confirm.

migrated

Just checked this morning and the issue does seem to be fixed.
