This bug is still present in version 6 once a mob spots you thats it there is no getting away because they viewing radius increase like 10X so they will always follow you now matter how far way you get from them
UPDATED 11 October 2012: Ive taking some screen shots of a zombie that I got Aggro on me, as you can see it gets closer and closer, on some of the images where it gets really close, you'll see some zombies off to the right quite close to me all they do is ignore me because they arnt aggro!

zombies(its the most common with zombies), spiders and creepers seem to do this! it happened once or twice with skeletonsd
im getting chased by a zombie, i manage to get to my house about 30-40 blocks away from this zombie, i start to build a roof a few seconds later i see this zombie start walking out the the fog and towards me, i start to move to the right and the zombie also moves to the right, i do find it quite annoying. and that i can be fixed
the creeper highlighted is still chasing me and ive been 2X that distance and it still chases me u cant get rid of them, i took the screen shot so you get an idea, i could try and get a screen shot further away but the creeper would be harder to see
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
I tested this in the current version, and it's fixed! Monsters stop following you after about 16 blocks. I'm pretty sure that nothing was changed in the AI from 0.8.0 to 0.8.1, so it's safe to assume that it was fixed on 0.8.0.
Are you sure about this bug, I have only tried it with zombies and it seems to work. What kinds of mobs are we talking about here?
