Made a flying machine elevator in creative today to see if it worked before I make one in survival. Observers were sending the wrong signal to the pistons or pistons were glitching. Elevator goes up a couple blocks then comes back down, or goes up half way then back down. 1 out of 8 times it would actually reach the top.

Did you use a design from the Java edition? (Design with 2 sticky pistons and observers) This design for a 2-way flying machine unfortunately doesn't work on BE. You can replace one of the stickies with a normal piston. NOTE: it will not fly 2 ways. This is because the Bedrock Edition lacks piston block dropping, unlike Java.
can i assume youve made successful red block flyers? when i first started building em, i made the mistake of copying a bunch of je. having made a few elevators, i can also attest they are easy to mess up simply because the change in perspective.
This is still a bug in the "2020-04-06" update. Very frustrating. after hours and days of trying to find a way around the issue, I'm glad to hear I am not the only one seeing this problem.

I totally agree with you. When I tried to build one with sticky pistons so that it can go up and down, the machine just went up and down randomly. Still a bug in 1.9.0
