I went to get the ender dragon heads that I forgot to get, and I threw an ender pearl into the gateway. My coordinates started flicking and then I got stuck in nothingness. I threw the rest of my ender pearls and ate my golden apples. I also tried placing water but I couldn't seem to place it anywhere. None of these did anything and I am currently just stuck there. I copied the world to check it out in creative, and I couldn't break any blocks or do anything. I just teleported myself back to 0 90 0 and I saw that a huge chunk of the main island was not loaded in. I rejoined the game and it came back. When I tried teleporting through again, the same thing happened.
*Additional information by [~Auldrick]*
When you throw an ender pearl into an end gateway that was generated in a release prior to 1.9, you get stuck in a loop teleporting between the two gateways. In many cases, your head may be trapped in the bedrock above the gateway, causing you to suffocate and die. In all cases, if you're unable to escape the gateway (which is difficult to accomplish), the rapid teleporting apparently causes an eventual renderer failure that leaves you in what appears to be a black void, This failure persists even if you're able to save and reload the world, provided you don't exit the game. When you attempt to reload the world without exiting the game, the failure to render blocks leaves the Generating World UI on the screen, creating an illusion that the game is hung.
Possible workarounds
Gateways generated before 1.9 will fail consistently, but new gateways should not have the problem so you can try using one generated more recently. Note, however, that due to another bug (MCPE-19699), gateways that were generated in an area where chunks already existed (because you bridged or flew there) will also have the rapid teleporting issue.
Some people have been able to ender pearl out during the time you're flipping between the gateways. If you're able to do this, save the world, exit the game and restart it, and then load the world again. It should look normal and work normally (but the bug is still present, so don't use the gateway again).

I am experiencing the same issue, but on the Nintendo Switch Edition. Stuck in the End and now I can't reload my save.

Having the same issue on XBox one. End portal gateways that were working fine literally yesterday with 1.8.x now teleports me to inside the bedrock with 1.9.0 today. I either suffocate to death, get stuck or occasionally get spat back out

Happened to me also on Xbox survival world luckily friend was with me he killed me but got stuck also when I flew to the coordinates with an elytra found that he was just floating all the blocks in a certain radius around the gateway had disappeared and so did the gateway itself the blocks were there just invisible
Update: can’t even log in to play it’s a realm on Xbox

Same here got stuck in all blackness after going through end city portal on xbox one, I cant load the world at all now. Just gets stuck on load screen with a full green bar.

Also having the same issue. I could sometimes see a few enderman, but couldn't move or do anything. I exited the game hoping it would resolve itself. Now, it won't even load the worlds (I had this happen on more than one).

Another update had a regular world where I had a gateway prior to the new update and it was also broken however after I respawned the dragon and killed it a new egg dragon egg appeared along with another gateway which did work so I’m guessing don’t use any gateways you had prior to the newest update. Most definetly do not leave the world if you are stuck in it get someone to kill you or starve to death

Same thing happened to me on XBox One however I wasable to ender pearl out on two diferent occasions. I died once and was able to miraculously get out the second time. I haven't tried geting back in yet.

Can confirm for the full 1.9 release. Leaving the world when in this kind of situation can lead to the problems reported in MCPE-41513 aka world corruption. Only way to get out of this situation when in game, is teleport commands :/
I am having the exact issue, fortunately I am so used to bedrock on PC or IOS device glitching that I always back up before I enter the End. Throw ender pearl into portal and i go into a black room unable to move.

Has no one else been able to get out of the bedrock? I was able to twice but only survived once. It took mee a good 10 minutes both times trying to fly out and then ender pearl out.

Playing with my 2 sons in LAN and after a couple of tries using water to swim in I made it to the Outer Islands but my kids still can't get through and I can't go back. When trying we can throw Ender pearls straight up to escape the Bedrock before suffocating. This puts us on top of the Gateway. Tried many times, many ways! Please Help!

I have not been able to reproduce this problem in 1.9.0 using Windows 10. It has been speculated that the problem only occurs in gateways that were generated in an earlier release, which would explain why I haven't succeeded. If anyone is able to provide a (non-corrupted) copy of their world in which this is happening, it would be very helpful.
It's likely that any world having this problem has already grown larger than the 10 MB limit for attachments, but putting the copy on a secure public sharing service or personal cloud with sharing capability and providing us a link to it will work.

This is happening on my realm - xbox world. This is a converted map from the original xbox one Minecraft version, however, it was working fine prior to 1.9.0 so this is definitely a 1.9.0 issue. (Worked in 1.8 and 1.8.1)

Can't confirm?!? It happens on EVERY copy with a world where the dragon was beat before the 1.9.0 patch OR the outer islands were explored before that portal was generated.
world export:
NOTE: To the people expecting to enderpearl up to get out, don't count on it. it may work but it is only a possibility. I've tried in all directions. Best luck I've had is down at a 45* angle when facing nw, ne, sw, se and straight up. Also note that you have a 50-50 chance of being warped out at the original End island and not the outer island. If you attempt this open the game to lan and be ready to have another user on another device kill you as you endless teleport back and forth if you run out of pearls. Also be sure to put all your stuff in an enderchest before attempting if you make it through you can always place on on the other side and get it back.

@unknown: Thank you very much for the file!Having the file will enable me to do some preliminary analysis and possibly find some clues to help the developers.
I couldn't reproduce the problem because I don't have any worlds from before 1.9 in which I'd ever been to the end. I would have confirmed it anyway because of the number of detailed reports.

Sorry if I was rude there, I had just woke up.
I've got a realm with the issue as well. I can not attach a realm though. let me know if you need access to that.
oh End portal location in that world I attached is around X:800 Z: 354. There is a desert village with a spiral staircase down just outside of it, surrounded by torches.

Thank you Brian, having the coordinates of the end portal saved me a bit of effort.
I've reproduced some of the observed effects in Brian's world. In this case, at least, I don't believe the world is being corrupted. In Creative mode with coordinates showing, throwing an ender pearl into either gateway (I had removed all the bedrock blocks around them) caused my coordinates to swap between the two gateways rapidly for a while, then that appeared to stop and leave me in a black void. However, nothing has actually been removed; instead, it seems like some internal capacity of the renderer becomes exhausted, and this causes it to stop rendering any blocks within the render distance. Once I was able to get myself unstuck and could move around, I kept bumping into things that stopped my progress, but I could turn and go in another direction. Eventually I discovered endermen and a shulker box below me that were (I later discovered) at the bottom of the stairway up to the outer island portal. When I tried to open the shulker box, it disappeared, again because of the broken rendering I imagine. I also heard my footstops in some places. So I was still in the world and as far as the game logic knew, nothing was amiss.
I was then able to save the game and reload it. It appeared to hang showing the Generating World UI with the progress meter full. Surprisingly, I happened to minimize the window at that point, and when I restored it I was in the world and in the black void! From this I conclude that the world had been opened and was fine, but the rendering problem was still active since I hadn't exited the game. The Generating World UI hadn't stalled, it just hadn't been overwritten by the world because of the renderer failure. After I exited and reloaded the game (which reinitializes the renderer), I was able to open the world normally and everything was normal again.
Another way to fix the rendering problem (after you've escaped the portal) is to teleport somewhere outside the rendering distance. However, when I tried this, chunks were rendered very slowly from then on, so it's not really a solution.
There are still some aspects I'm studying, but at this point it appears that related phenomena such as the black void and world corruption are illusions caused by the initial portal malfunction and subsequent block rendering failure. In at least some cases, if you're able to get yourself out of the portal trap then you should be able to simply exit the game and reload it, and your world will be playable again. If you're unable to get out of the portal, it might help if you minimize the window/send the app to the background before forcing it closed. (I'm not sure, but there have been hints that suspending the app makes it update the save files.)

We had a couple members of our realm get stuck in end gateways prior to knowing about this glitch and ever since we have been having these "corrupt" chunks in the overworld as well as the end-- we have a town at spawn point and keep losing chunks with no way to restore them but to revert to a backup. It has also happened on another player's base outside of town. I assume this is related as it's only been happening since our players got stuck in the end gateways and also it seems to be the same rendering error that is affecting the end and causing people inside these chunks to not be able to log back in.

Thanks for that report! I described it as a "rendering bug" because I wasn't able to identify anything in the save file that was different before and after using the gateway. But it's possible that there is some difference I don't recognize as being relevant to rendering, so I'm watching out for reports like this.
If you're able to upload a copy of your realm (or more likely, put it on a sharing service and give us the link), that might be helpful. And if you know an affected chunk's coordinates, that would be even more helpful.

A few hours ago, I reset the end on our realm with mcctoolchest and we have not had any issues since doing so (I'm still keeping my members from re-entering the end for now), so this may be a solution for those who don't have any buildings or anything to lose in the end. I do have a copy of my world from before the fix though so I will see about uploading it somewhere. It's about 800mb so it could take a bit but I'll report back when I can.

Keep in mind MCPE-19699. If the Outer End islands have been explored in the area where the newly generated portal was supposed to go this same bug will occur. @Auldrick in my world I explored -800, -600 to -2000, -900 and -2000, 400 so even if the portal that generates in the -x direction after the 1.9.0 update will fail with the same issue as those islands had been explored.

I have had this issue as well on my realm while playing on the switch. I appeared to be stick inside of the the gateway (inside the bedrock) while simultaneously being teleported back and forth. I noticed my food bar would go from full to empty within seconds, and the coordinates would flip from the main end island to the gateway island. I tried jumping and throwing ender pearls, but I couldn’t do anything but eat. I also unfortunately logged off in fear of being killed with all my stuff, and can’t get back on even though I can hear the music for the end. I believe that the game is trying to load in the chuncks for your location, but can’t do so as the player is rapidly teleporting back and forth in the gateway (this also may be why the food bar drains so fast). Trying to use a different device or restart Minecraft won’t work of course, but I tried it anyway. Do you have any clue when this would be fixed? Is there anything we can do to be able to play at all? I’d just like some additional feedback on this issue if possible. Thank you!

After trying many times I was able to get back on my realm alive! I will not be going through that again! I’ll just fly to the other side!

I am experiencing the same issue. I threw an ender pearl into an end city portal, and was spawned into nothingness. My food bar was decreasing for the first few seconds and then stopped. A friend threw an ender pearl into the same portal I used, and was spawned into the same 1x2 block of nothingness that I am in. I can't even load the realm anymore, it gets stuck on "building terrain".

what are we suppose to do if we get stuck in the void? i can even kill myself to get out of it.

I don't think you're in the void when everything goes dark around you. I think you're actually still flipping between the portals but it happens so fast that the game can't keep up with the chunk updates and eventually quits rendering anything.
To my knowledge, there's currently no way to recover from this bug unless you're lucky enough to ender pearl out of the portal, something many people have tried but not succeeded in doing. But don't give up and delete your world! There's reason to believe that the world saves are recoverable once the bug is fixed. I think it's likely that once we have a fixed version, you'll be able to load the world and will simply go through the portal as you should (though which side you'll come out at is anybody's guess). If that's how it works out, your chances of recovering the world are probably best if you don't repeatedly open the world, trying to find a way to continue playing it while the bug still exists. So use your own judgment as to which way you want to go.

Mod Auldrick is the best thing to do at this stage is to avoid the end til this is resolved?
I havent generated an end portal in my world yet tho the world itself was created prior to 1,9. But dont want my world corrupted so happy to wait even tho it means no shulkers etc.
I assume the best option is not to fight the End dragon at this stage either, I have found the end portal in the stronghold but not got the ender pearls to activate it, I am not sure if this portal itself was generated prior to 1,9.

@Robyn - If the end was never entered before you updated to 1.9.0 you should be safe. The issue is when the end was generated AND a gateway portal was there before 1.9.0. New portals generated in 1.9.0 to the islands that have been unexplored should be fine.
If you've been to the End and have render distance set to 64 you'll be able to see the islands before beating the dragon. That could be VERY BAD!! Set view distance to a normal 8-16 or less before entering the end. This should prevent any chance of the game from generating the outer islands before you use the portal.
The above might not be necessary as the World's simulation distance would still be lower but better safe than sorry.

@unknown: From the reports given here, I agree with @unknown. The problem only happens with End gateway portals that were generated after the terrain they float above was generated, so you're fine as long as you:
Avoid entering the End with your Render Distance set very high (yes, it's the Render Distance that matters), and
Avoid approaching the nearest outer islands by bridging or flying to them before a gateway has been generated in that direction.
Note that the latter means you should avoid traveling "sideways" between the nearest outer islands, even after using a gateway, because doing so could put you in range of a gateway that hasn't been generated yet. (The gateways generate on a ring of large outer islands nearest the main island, spaced roughly equally apart.) You should be fine if you stick to traveling away from the main island for the first 300 blocks or so. It's also safe to travel sideways if you know the gateway in that direction has already been generated.

So I set my render distance and all that to really low and i made it through the portal but the only thing that renders in are the endermen, i can break blocks and place stuff but cant see it.
*I didnt make it to the end city, i got popped back out to where you fight the dragon*
Once i did manage to make it to the end city by ender pearling out of the loop only a small bit renders in, like half the land i walk on is invisible and instead of it being a big world its only a single, half rendered island.

@unknown: Did you set your render distance in the video settings, or did you change gfx_viewdistance in the options.txt file? If you did the latter, you need to multiply the value by 16 because it's measured in blocks, not chunks, there. The minimum value there should be 64.
The comments to Robyn above were only meant for them or for somebody else who hasn't been to the End yet. In your case, you already had a broken gateway, and we don't know of any way to repair it. The invisible terrain effect you're seeing is probably either an effect of using the broken portal or the incorrect render distance setting I was referring to in the previous paragraph. If it's the broken portal, try restarting the game (not just reloading the world) and avoid using that gateway until we have a fix.

Thanks Brian Green and Mod Auldrick for your help. I feel a bit safer moving on to doing the dragon fight and exploring for end city now , I now know what is safe to do and what to avoid, esp the render distance as I tend to have that set high so will take it back before entering.
Hoping later updates fix the problem for the others who already have been to the end.

Ok so I have a general question on this. As the only end gateway I have is essentially broken, am I better off just flying to a different section of the outer islands? Or am I better off defeating the dragon again to open a new gateway?

Karl, just fight the dragon again. That's what I did. I just went into the fight with a bow, a stone sword, and no armor because i expected to die a bunch. I managed to beat the dragon after several deaths. when you beat him, It will open a new functioning portal to a different section of the world. I stumbled across my old portal while i was searching for end ships.

I concur with Mitchell. Fighting the dragon again should give you a normal, functional gateway you can use as often as you want, and it's a lot more convenient than bridging and less risky than flying 1000 blocks over the void. Versus, if you just fly to a new section of the outer islands, you're guaranteed to have a second broken gateway, and as of now nobody knows for sure that those will be repaired by the fix when it comes.

I found that if your game isn’t loading because you exited the game while stuck then try change the game settings like peaceful to normal or something along those lines. I did that and it worked for me although it was on Xbox one realm

I'm going to be the odd one and say that flying out is the safest method. It is what I do. Here is how to do it:
Preparation, get at least 32 firework rockets without a Fireworks Star!! If they explode you take damage! So just one paper one gunpowder.
Practice this technique in the overworld a couple times.
The flight:
Make sure show coordinates is on! This is a must.
1) ladder up to the top of any of the obsidian pillars, it doesn't even need to be a super tall one.
2) align yourself in any cardinal direction N, E, S, W (+/- Z or X)
3) run and Jump off with the crosshair almost perfectly level.
The rest of the flight you will be solely utilizing the mini player in the top left of the screen
4) aim the player about 45* up and use a firework you'll quickly accelerate and climb to about Y = 130 or so. As your starting to slow down adjust the player so that he is almost perfectly level. This will maximize your glide. You should only see a slow decrease in Y while the X OR Z is rapidly increasing.
5) Hold that glide until about Y=70. Repeat step 4)
6) once you see the island or more likely the chorous plants you transition back to main crosshair for visual guidance and land on an island. This should be around X or Z near 1000/-1000.
I've done this multiple times and it is completely safe and very easy to do once you get the feel for flying only looking at the guy in the corner. it usually takes me 3 or 4 fireworks.
It is much safer if you have a mending unbreaking Elytra. *Make a Villager breeder and you'll get one in no time.
Side note: I'm a pilot and this is virtually the same idea as an instrument approach in bad weather. You use the instruments to get you close and then transition to visual once you are almost there.
Also there is almost zero chance of the game glitching this way. Also remember if the portal glitches and you die there is a very high chance that you'll lose all the gear you were wearing and stuff you are carrying! So if you do attempt to beat the dragon and take the new portal to be safe you MUST take off all your gear including maps/stuff in offhand and place it all in an enderchest leaving only a stack of pearls and another enderchest in your inventory. You can take a silk touch pickaxe and place it in the enderchest as well if you want to re-collect it later. If you make it to the other side safely place down that second enderchest and get your stuff out that you need.

Glad to here that there is a fix in the (near?) future coming. Does it mean that the already broken save games / portals going to be unbroken again? Do I die and lose my stuff anyway?
For all others the trick with the realm is working for IOS. Should be mentioned under possible workarounds.
If you got a broken save game upload it into the realm, join the realm, switch to hard mode, die because of starvation (jumping may make it faster due random damage from blocks), respawn, exit realm, download world out of the realm. Voila! If you have loading issues while dealing with the corrupted save, especially while joining the realm, try over and over again, even with the very first step. I tried for an hour.
And if you are a lucky one with an ender pearl left and don’t wanna loose your stuff, you can try to get out and if failing try it over and over again, too. I said good bye to my gear. (Sadly the full armour and trident, pick and so on, are not the worsed, my 300 rockets are, so hard to get gun powder)

I'm also wanting to know whether this fix will restore the gateways that were malfunctioning, completely. In escaping with ender perls, my main (and only) gateway from the main island to the first outer island was actually destroyed on the outer-island side. It now still works but only one-way, allowing leaving the main island but not able to return through it. (except maybe through other gateways that will be found) The "stars" part of the broken gateway are actually gone.

Testing the fix in 1.11.0.3, it appears that the malfunctioning gateways are restored to proper operation. I'm unable to test whether a world that stalled while you were loading it will load correctly because I don't have an example world to test. However, the changelog does reference a fix that sounds like it might fix that issue as well.
@unknown: I'm sorry the gateway portal block is broken. This is the first report of that happening. It may have been something that happened while you were trying various methods to escape the trap, and I suspect it's rather rare. If you defeat the dragon again and make another gateway, and it has the same problem, be sure to let us know.

Thank you for your reply. As I described, I managed to get out using the realm trick. After deciding to give my world a try, because a fix isn’t coming soon, I figured out that the world is still unplayable. If you break stuff or slay mobs, no enteties appear. But you can still throw stuff. Perhaps there is still a rendering issue with enteties you might check. God knows what else is broken, too. It is kind of ironic after all the trying to get the world back that it turned into a museum. Perhaps it is for the better to bury Minecraft for ever. I don’t get the feeling someone cares. Yeah pandas are cute, but what about a stable game with proper mechanics? But this doesn’t belong here.

Well of course I tried to figure it out. I’m a little restless. So breaking blocks still gives a red stone signal. So they have to disappear afterwards in the process of breaking.
And if you place a shulker box it duplicates, cause it remains in my inventory while showing off in the world. So the game is a little less broken🤨 I can duplicate all the stuff I have already in a shulker box.
@auldrick A new approach. If I invest another hour or so to reload my world again via the realm trick, still trapped. Can I use commands to free me? For example set my position to somewhere save? Can you confirm there is any way to use commands to solve the issue?

@unknown: There is a new Beta release, 1.11.0.4. I would see if it has fixed your problem first.
If it hasn't: Are commands enabled? If not, you would have to enable cheats, which I assumed you don't want to do since it makes the world ineligible for achievements. But if you're willing to do that, I can't promise it would work, since I have no idea about what exactly is broken in the game that could cause your symptoms. I also can't try the Realms method to see what that experience is like, so this may not make sense, but if you're able to join on Realms, could you try teleporting yourself there instead of waiting for it to download first?
What worries me in your case is that after the initial bug caused world corruption, your attempts to get around the problem could have compounded the damage. The developers could figure out how the original damage happened and write code to fix that, but the subsequent damage would have depended on exactly what you did and in what order; the devs wouldn't be able to predict that. The only hope of getting your world back to normal, then, would be if the bits of self-repair logic in the game managed to do it by coincidence. (Yes, there is self-repair logic, but it's mostly just to chop out and discard data that's inconsistent or obviously out of range.) So essentially, if the new Beta hasn't fixed it then it's probably not fixable at this point.
If you have another type of device such as a PC that you could download the realm to, and you're not afraid to try an editor like MCC Tool Chest PE, something that might help you recover the world is to prune the chunks that contain the gateways. They would then be regenerated (without gateways) when you reload.

I had the same issue and I got it fixed, here's what you need to do, First delete Minecraft (and any add ons) from your xbox 1 then re-downlaod the game on its own, then launch the game and load your world and skip downloading any texture pack's (load it with the default pack) and your world should load, although you'll still be glitched out, put the game on hard and let yourself die and you will respawn just fine but without your inventory.

Again thank you for your reply. And your little dive into the devs point of view. I discovered several other bugs, e.g. the health regeneration doesn't work. I'm kind of amazed, that it is possible for a savegame (or a piece of software in general) to fall apart so tremendously, despite only using the oppurtunities that the game provides (no mods, datapacks). It's like an accident you have to look on.
I don't care about achivements. So I will give it a try by using commands. I have several versions of my world by now, one which is very "bare" right after getting stucked. I will copy it again and work with this one.
I also like your elegant idea of deleting chunks. But using some kind of a backup extractor to access my iOS-files, transfer it, edit it, transfer it back and load it properly is kind of a long way to go with many unforeseen problems. I don't want to go down that path right now.

Re your amazement: It generally starts as a small flaw in the world that wouldn't even be noticeable under normal circumstances, but it leaves the world in a state that should not exist, ever. Developers usually write their code so that such trivial flaws cause it to fail in a gentle, often a recoverable way. But sometimes that's not practical, and since no world should ever be in that state anyway, they write the code assuming it won't be. This can cause a trivial flaw to precipitate a bigger one, and a domino effect leads to total loss of validity. From small acorns, great oaks grow. So that's how a very small bug that would normally not even cause an issue (and therefore never be noticed and fixed) can result in such a radical result.

I was able to fix the issue by using /setblock to set the top block of the first gateway to air (as long as you've committed the coordinates to memory), then kill myself with /kill
Well it worked for me 😃 reupload into a realm, try to join, using the teleport command (relocate 20 blocks south back to the main island), export. There were still some issues rendering the area properly. I managed to leave the end. No bugs until now. Im able to revisit the end without lag. Wish me luck.
Perhaps you can add this workaround above. It is a smooth way, because you don’t lose your stuff.

I just realized - this is fixed in 1.11, but the current production release is 1.9? And 1.10 is the next release? So when are we going to see a fix for this? My kids and I beat the ender dragon right before this bug hit. (On a realm.) Then when we went to go get elytra, we discover the hard way that we just can’t. We’ve been frustrated and angry ever since that Mojang could even let such a major bug into production, and then even more so that it has taken so long to fix - and now I realize it’s going to be, what, six months more before we see a fix? This is shameful, to treat customers with such disrespect.

@Nathan Arthur this isn't a disrespect in any way. Also, it's probably going to release in less than 2 months.

After two weeks of playing, I recommend the usage of the teleport command (https://www.digminecraft.com/game_commands/tp_command.php) to free yourself, like I mentioned above. No further bugs. Everything is normal, except I will never trust an end portal ever again.🙂

I'm in 1.11.1 and this still happens. my solution was just to fly to the end islands from the main one since i have elytra but still this is annoying

I confirm that this still happens in 1.11.1.
We opened the end portal yesterday so it's a 1.11.1 ender gate.

@unknown, @unknown, or anyone else experiencing problems with end gateway portals in 1.11: Please give more detail about the problem. Is it only occurring in portals that were generated prior to 1.11, or in new gateways as well? When you use one, are you suffocating inside the portal or does everything eventually go black and the game crashes?
There were many reports of problems using end gateways that were marked as duplicates of this report, because our best guess at the time was that they had the same underlying cause. But it's possible they were actually different problems that the developers didn't fix, and you're experiencing one of those. This seems likely given that a lot of people are apparently no longer having the issue described in this report. If so, we may need to reopen one of the duplicates and work on a specific fix for it.

I'm getting stuck in end portals that lead to the outer islands, without suffocating. Just stuck with no damage but all black. Throwing a loyalty trident causes it to never return.
This is in the Windows 10 Bedrock version (running new hotfix update from 2019-05-01 v1.11.102.0) of a downloaded Realm in survival mode with pre-1.9.0 generated portals.
Also happening in the Realm when using Nintendo Switch.
Devs: I can MailBigFile a zipped export of the world if you like. (Saved with my character stuck in the portal lol)

@unknown: Thank you for responding! The fix in 1.11.0.3 Beta should be included in the 1.11 release, so this problem should not happen when a new end gateway is generated. Unfortunately, the fix could not repair the damage to portals generated before 1.11, so they will need to be taken out of service.
If you still have this problem with a new end gateway portal, a copy of your world might be helpful, but as of now I think it would only show the problem that's already been fixed.

On March 1st, you said that the fix repaired already-broken gateways! So I bridged out to the end islands and started exploring, to finally get elytra. Now you say that the portal is permanently broken, and all the other end gateways that generated out there are also broken? And presumably even if we kill the ender dragon again, if the new gateway goes to an already-generated area, it will also be broken???
So essentially I can only get to the end cities from now on by bridging? In other words, the entire end in my realm is broken, permanently?

Everything goes black when i go into the end gateway generated before 1.11 no crash and everything is still there. So what you are telling me that this may be a different problem? I can walk around as well which is also weird the blocks are all black but i can interact with water that was placed before.
I'm using a Xboxone on 1.11.1

@unknown: What I said on March 1st was that the portals appeared to be fixed based on my tests and the fact that nobody was reporting otherwise at the time. Subsequent comments indicate that while the cause was corrected, all the damaged data wasn't necessarily repaired.
Presumably, the devs fixed the error that caused the outer portal to be generated wrong, which would stop the problem from happening for subsequent portal generations, and I guess they also put in some code to try to repair broken portals as well, which is why at least some (including my test world) resumed working normally. But once you entered the broken portal and the game started infinitely flipping you back and forth, it wasn't just the portal data that was broken, it was the program itself gone out of control. Some people nevertheless continued playing, trying to get the berserk program to fix itself. I'm only speculating about this, but based on my past career as a developer I'd expect that to cause collateral damage, and because the specific extra damage is unpredictable, it can't be repaired. TL:DR; I believe the portals themselves were repaired, but some worlds had collateral damage in the chunks around the outer portal that can't be repaired. If you use the portal, it might work fine or it might teleport you into messed up chunks or chunks that won't load.
For this reason, I can't say whether your portals are usable or not. Technically, I'd expect they work properly, but there's a chance that the chunks they put you in won't look like normal or won't render at all. You'll just have to test each affected portal to see. Affected portals are those created by killing a dragon while playing a Beta version prior to 1.11.0.3, or in the 1.9 or 1.10 releases.
Any portal generated by killing a dragon in 1.11 should have no problem, and should teleport you to normal chunks. I think your question about a "new gateway [that] goes to an already-generated area" reflects a misunderstanding: Each gateway sends you off in a different direction. It's possible for you to fly from the area around one outer gateway to the area around another, if you stay near the gap between the main island and the outer islands, and you might encounter damaged chunks that look wrong or appear not to load by doing so. But you'd almost have to do this deliberately, because most directions you might fly from one gateway wouldn't take you anywhere near another one.
Edit: I should clarify that I think damage should only have occurred around portals you actually tried to use in those releases. Any portal you didn't try to use shouldn't have a problem and should teleport you to normal chunks.

Since the old portals are stuck in space according to only the seed of the world, and they cannot be modified by any normal means, can't you just make an update to restore all the existing portals?
It would seem possible since it is exactly like you already do a restore to the big obsidian obelisks whenever a new ender dragon is spawned — just fix all the portals like you fix all the obelisks and main portal every time the ender dragon is born!? 🙂

@unknown: What you describe is almost exactly what I experienced in my test world. I thought I was in the void, because everywhere around me was black, but by trying to move around I discovered I was bumping into invisible blocks. By following the surface as it rose and the coordinates, I was eventually able to find my way back to normal chunks again.
As I explained in the previous comment, I think what happened is that your portal was repaired, but the chunks it's teleporting you to were damaged when the original problem happened. I believe it was caused by the same issue, but is random damage that can't be fixed. And if you kill another dragon and create another gateway, I believe it will be normal.

@unknown: Again, I think the portals have already been repaired and it's the damage to the chunks they take you to that causes the symptoms reported in the last few days. I suspect Mojang can't repair that damage, but it's not up to me to say so I'll leave this ticket open and let them decide whether more work is needed on this fix.

OK, thank you for the detailed response. I guess we'll just have to try the portal and see what happens.
(FWIW, once I found the first elytra, I flew around the end islands looking for more, and saw at least two other island-side portals spawn while doing that. I never tried to use any of them, though. I have not seen any failed chunks (yet?) but I haven't been back to the side of the map where the dragon-generated portal goes.)

Hi,
I belive I didn't had exactly the same issue, when going back to the main island using a 1.11 generated end gate, we get teleported back but the terrain is not rendered.
We can actually break blocks or put some blocks down, we can even see enderman.
If we log out and back, we get stuck on the loading screen.
Loging back a few minutes later and everything is fine.

@unknown: That actually sounds like exactly the same issue, although perhaps on a larger scale. The collateral damage I was talking about is that chunks around the portal become unrenderable. The blocks are there, but can't be displayed for some reason, so the graphics engine just skips over them. For most people, that happened at the outer portal, but in your case it happened on the main island side, which isn't surprising since the original bug was rapidly flipping you between the two portals. The only difference is that you happened to be on the main island side when the collateral damage occurred.
"If we log out and back, we get stuck on the loading screen": I assume you mean the world loading screen, the one with the "Generating world" box. I think you'll find that you're not actually stuck there, you're in the world but in the damaged chunks. The graphics engine can't render those chunks so it doesn't overwrite the loading screen as it should. I learned this in Windows 10 when I thought it was stuck on the loading screen. I minimized the game window, then restored it, forcing the graphics engine to redraw the entire window. That left me with a black screen, and then I knew I'd been in the world the whole time.
Unfortunately, this probably means that a large chunk of your main island is damaged beyond repair. If it doesn't include your spawn point, you might still be able to use the End and maybe even fight the dragon again, but before you can do that you'll have to get out of the damaged chunks. You can do that as usual by walking and jumping, although you'll have to do it while blind and you might walk off the edge and die (but would then respawn in normal chunks again).

I just had this happen. I started a new world on Switch about a week ago and just fought the ender dragon last night (2 simultaneous ender dragons actually. NOT cool) . I ender pearled thru the gateway to the outer islands and explored around the first island a little. It was late and I worked in the morning so I decided to pearl back thru the gateway, leave the end and save&quit in the nearby village for the night. Everything was fine. Tonight I log in, head back to the end and pearl back thru the gateway. It drops me in nothingness. I thought it had dropped me in the void until I realized there were enderman running around. I believe the island is still there but not rendering. Some blocks are only textured on one or two sides so they can only be seen from certain angles. The return gateway is also missing. The chunks appear corrupt and I have no idea what caused it. I did NOT get stuck in the bedrock like some say. I was instantly teleported to this state. However, it gets better... I used a teleport command to get back to the main island and saved&quit. After loading back in I pearled back thru the gateway and the islands loaded properly. I was... relieved. Upon using the return gateway tho, I have spawned in blackness. The main island is gone and my world is... dark, and this is not an old save. This world was created in 1.12.
I'm so glad ps4 is being forced on to bedrock soon so I can transfer my main world over and have bedrock break it. Can't wait. I'm sorry but ever since I moved over from console edition I've found Bedrock to be a buggy mess and I'm afraid this will be ignored like the multiple ender dragon glitch. PLEASE prove me wrong.

For issues related to getting stuck at the generating world screen when trying to join the game/world in the end dimension, please also see MCPE-49778.

Never had this issue until i joined a new realm. As far as i know brand new world. 3 others seemed to have same issue. Would still expect to see a fix. Built water slide to swim through end city portal. And so far have not seen it happen to me..... yet
Still effects 1.14.1. The rapid teleportation part doesn't seem to happen but spawning in blackness and having to restart is still a thing. When it happened the other night I could still walk around and break blocks altho I couldn't see anything, including my hand. Such a weird bug. Why does it only seem to happen in the End?

This bug affected a lot of people, but a fix was applied and seems to have been successful, so your recent reports probably are being caused by something different. Please create a new report about what is happening and disregard everything in this report so we don't confuse the new set of symptoms with the old.
