Since update 1.9.0 for the Nintendo Switch, the performance of Minecraft in handheld mode has dropped considerably, to the point where it’s almost unplayable due to how inconsistent the framerate is. Overall it feels like the performance has dropped by about half, with it occasionally dipping to 15-20fps or in rare cases, lower. There is also a lot of stuttering and what seems to be repeated frames (similar to rubber-banding when there’s lag online, but for a frame/two) when moving at speed (sprinting and turning quickly or spinning the camera).
The video options do not change this at all, they can be set as low as possible or as high as possible, but the framerate stays the same and the stuttering remains. The strange stuttering occurs in both above-ground and underground, when turning the camera quickly.
The performance issues are also random. At one point on the map the framerate would be fine, but upon returning to the same point, the game may slow down and start to stutter.
I didn’t notice these issues at all in the previous version, 1.8.1.

I haven't noticed a change for windows 10 edition. I'm playing on an old laptop so I'm surprised it hasn't changed. I can agree with Tyler though, changing your graphics settings on Bedrock edition has no change in fps and performance.

I'm triggered that updates are making it SLOWER not faster plus it takes FOREVER to quit and load a world!

I made an account just to vote this issue.
I was really hyped for the update to hit but once I finally got the update, my existing world lags and the game crashes upon save&quitting my world. I haven't been able to play minecraft on the switch because of this.
Also want to mention that the game lags in both hanheld and docked mode. Even if I don't travel at all and just stay in the same area, after about 5 min the game WILL start lagging even though it ran just fine earlier.

God I hope they fix this ASAP, this makes the switch completely unplayable IMO, a game like this shouldn't be running that poorly after an update!

I agree with the previous post. While it doesn't make the game unplayable with mine, it is difficult at times. The performance seems to vary greatly! When I first start up there is the usual slowness while the visible chunks load, then it becomes smooth as ice with framerates above perception even when running and looking around quickly. This lasts about 30 seconds to a minute, then the framerate drops to a visible chop of around 10 to 15 fps I'm estimating. After running like that for a while, it rises and lowers even further at seemingly random times every minute or two.

The game is completely unplayable! UNBELIEVABLE stuttering just when looking around your world! I have also had my game randomly frozen two times, one of them resulted in the complete loss of my best horse and diamond armor and a saddle! What is the point of updating your game and making it slower? How can you push out an update that makes the game unplayable for so many people and not catch it beforehand? I have requested a refund from Nintendo even though I know 99% they will not give it to me, even though the rep told me that refunds are given in cases of 'theft or the game cannot be played on the system'
Well, technically, this game can NOT be played on the Nintendo Switch right now. Is there any way to go back to the previous update? Because I've only had the game for a week, and I've barely played it and when the weekend has finally arrived and I have time, it's completely broken? What a waste of money.

I signed up to post on this as well. My 200mb save file is now unplayable in multiplayer splitscreen. The games constantly freezes while autosaving and needs to be reset. We couldnt play more then 10 minutes without having running into this and it didnt happen once in the prior version.
Resolving this as a duplicate of an earlier ticket MCPE-41479
Noticed this myself. Tried turning down video settings, turning off texture packs and there seems to be no difference at all.
