Performance/Frame rate gone down to below 30fps in v1.9.0 (Switch)

I downloaded the 1.9.0 Update yesterday on my Nintendo Switch and once i entered my World i got multiple issues with Performance and framerate, Frames went down to an unlocked 30fps, World took over 2 minutes to load up and UI crafting/inventory menu cursor stuttering while moving it around, also whenever i press Pause the game freezes and soon after crashes the game, it seems that after every Update the Performance gets slower and worse for Nintendo Switch, if I’m wrong then its an issue within this particular Update. The video i left below may not look like the framerate is below 30fps but it’s worse in-game. Please fix this ASAP because its become unplayable at this point. (I've left a 2nd video showing the freezing bug if it helps)

These performance issues were found to have two different causes. The first and more severe bug affected all Switch players. It was fixed in 1.10.0 and performance was greatly improved.

The second bug mainly affects games where the Multiplayer Game setting is enabled. Its most prominent symptoms seem to be pauses of several seconds when the game is autosaving, but there can also be brief delays at any time. During these times, delays may be observed when breaking blocks, opening chests, anvils, and other UI panels, and perhaps some other actions. This bug is difficult to fix so it will take a bit longer, but a team of developers is and has been working diligently on it.

Workaround: Users are reporting that the following workaround can temporarily restore your console to normal or near-normal performance for new worlds, at the expense of temporarily (until there's a fix) making your current worlds unavailable for play. I'm unable to verify this myself since I don't have access to a Switch, so use discretion when deciding whether to try this method.

  1. Backup your game data to the cloud using Switch online service.

  2. In the Data Management Settings, delete save data for the game.

  3. Uninstall the game from your console entirely. (Don't worry, your worlds will be saved.)

  4. Re-download the game from the Nintendo eShop. Do not restore your cloud backup.

  5. Turn off "Automatic back up save data" by clicking + on game, then "Save data cloud" and click your user. (Turning this off won't cause your cloud-saved worlds to be lost.)

Once all these bugs/issues are fixed, you'll be able to restore your cloud data and play on your worlds again.

Confirmed. World that was working fine yesterday on my Switch is unplayable today after 1.9 update. I tried lowering render distance,  disabling anti-aliasing etc, but framerate is still very low.

What about the physical copy of cartridge? It's impossible for me to Re-download from the eshop. I'll have to buy it again?

@unknown: The issues reported on this ticket have been fixed and should not be causing your problem. Therefore the workaround should no longer be expected to have any effect.

Please note: The current global pandemic has forced many governments around the world to order their citizens to stay at home. Many of them have been asked to work from home over the internet. Many others, no longer able to pursue the outside activities they're used to, are entertaining themselves by watching streaming services such as Netflix or YouTubeTV. This has placed considerable additional burden on the internet infrastructure, which in many cases will result in slower than normal response times.

Minecraft is heavily dependent on the internet, especially when you're in a multiplayer (non-LAN) world. It's to be expected, therefore, that it will be affected by the general internet slowdown, more or less depending on how overburdened the network paths between the server and players' devices are. This can cause a number of unexpected behaviors such as blocks that are broken reappearing in the world (so-called "block lag") and even, in extreme cases, timeouts that kick you out of the world abruptly for no apparent reason. Since different players will be using different network paths, some players may have such issues while others see no problem at all, even using the same kind of device.

It's possible that the performance problems I assume you're having are the result of a new bug that nobody else has reported yet, but it's also possible (and probably more likely) that they're the result of this internet overburdening. Unfortunately, it's not easy to tell which cause is responsible, but there are some telltale clues that indicate an internet slowdown:

  1. The problem is much more severe when playing a non-LAN multiplayer world, including Realms, than a single-player world.

  2. The problem gets better or worse at different times of the day, as people start and stop working from home or streaming. Remember, though, that players may be in distant time zones, so performance variations may only occur gradually.

  3. The problem is worse when playing with people who are very distant from you, or if the server is far away. This happens because the network paths are longer on average, increasing the chance that one or more legs will be overburdened.

If your performance problem is being caused by internet overburden, there is no bug and Mojang cannot do anything to improve the situation; it will only resolve itself as governments lift their stay-at-home orders. But if the clues above don't apply for you, you might have a new bug. In that case, please create a new report for your problem, following the Issue Guidelines as much as possible. Try to include information about how it changes over time, if it does, and whether it's worse in worlds whose players are geographically dispersed.

It still freezes randomly and it can stay like that for minutes. Mostly on the main menu.
