Using 1.16.100, can confirm on the Switch. Two players, two Nintendo Switch consoles, bedrock.

Both consoles having the same problem.

Update:

After hearing no updates on this bug for a week (minus the above report), I decided to do some looking. I read on another report for iOS (MCPE-53936) this user was experiencing the same or a similar issue we're experiencing with the Switch. I gave the suggested steps a go and now I'm able to login.

If anyone performs these steps, be prepared: you will lose everything you have saved: any world, your login data, everything.

According to the user, they deleted their user's save data. I did the same thing by going to System Settings -> Data Management -> Delete Save Data. Choose Minecraft. On the next screen (if multiple users) 'Delete Save Data for <user>'.

After deleting the user's save data, I went to the main menu. I entered the game and the main menu appeared. Since I was logged out of a Microsoft account and could not use my intended feature (Realms) I logged back in. After logging in, things looked fine. I turned off the Switch just to make sure things wouldn't go wonky and, after turning it back on, loaded Minecraft. It went to the menu and logged into my account no problem. I'm now in my realm and there are no (current) issues.

Important: Since I pay for a realm and have no worlds or usable data on my Switch, losing my data doesn't matter to me. If my wife had to do this, as she just said, she'd quit playing. Period.

Something to note for bug squashing: before deleting the save data on the Switch, a menu is brought up showing each user (with their save data size). The save data for my user was over 700mb. The save data for the other two users on the system (who have no problems playing on their own devices) is 577mb. Now that I've deleted this data for my user, I am also at 577mb. Not sure if it's relevant but it is something curious.

We (my wife and I) had been unable to play this game together during the last major bug (re: MCPE-41479) which prevented my loading of this game for five to six months and now we're in the same situation with this bug. We (my wife and I) have a combined playtime of 600+ hours on the Switch alone, not including the PS4 and PS3 versions of the game we both own. We are paying for a realm, of which we just reupped two or three weeks ago. This is getting ridiculous - we just want to play.

Weirdly like the last error she is able to login with her Switch just fine and, with my Switch, I am unable to go past the white loading screen without the error occurring. She plays undocked on Wifi, I typically play docked while wired. Yes, I did check if Wifi and undocked would work, as well as all the steps listed above by the original poster (including cleaning save data and game files). Nothing changed, nothing worked.

My wife still plays just fine.

@William Proffitt and Stephen Henderson: It's worth noting others here are having the same problems without resource packs installed, myself included. See above comments.

@Ali Djeffal: You have some badly skewed information regarding FPS on the Switch. I would recommend doing a little research per Google.

**I run the Switch in docked mode, and since my brother-in-law is watching Netflix I decided to undock it and do a little troubleshooting. So I did, and some significant things came up that should be able to be reproduced.

When undocked, the game loaded albeit slower than I remember. I logged into our server. I played with no problems. My amazed wife grabbed her Nintendo Switch, also undocked, and loaded the game. As soon as the "blip!" noise of her Switch sounded and Minecraft started loading I was disconnected from the server. While Minecraft was loading on her Switch, I logged back into the server on mine. I was able to play again. When she logged into our server from her Switch, immediately my user "left the realm".. and I was told this a few minutes after on my Switch.

Bear in mind the entire time my brother-in-law has been watching Netflix. It's not much but this does match up to what happened a few reports ago and, given it's similarity, should be able to be recreated given similar circumstances.

Just turned on the Nintendo Switch giving the issues and tried starting Minecraft. An update downloaded and installed. I loaded the game, still the same slowness happened as before. After five minutes the menu finally appeared, another minute and my avatar finally appeared. I went to connect to a server and the system completely froze: "A communication error has occurred." I quit immediately out of frustration.

My wife on another Nintendo Switch, same connection and settings, logged into our server and played - no problems. Her brother is currently staying over and watching Netflix at the same time.

This is not an overheating issue. This is a Minecraft issue. My Switch, the same one having problems, also plays and has played Breath of the Wild for hours on end, also additional titles. Furthermore, the system has been off for a week and was just turned on to install/load this update. To restate: for over 300+ hours, we've played on the same connection together with no gamebreaking problems pre-1.9. All issues started with 1.9 onward and 1.10 is where I could no longer login.

Auldrick: Hi there. While I know where you're going with this idea (and I completely agree with testing your theory), I am worried about the potential what-ifs considering my wife's Switch is mostly untainted by this bug's issue. She legitimately enjoys playing the game; I might be beheaded if by, somehow, my problems became her problems.

Mega_Spud: If there's anything I can submit personally in assistance to this bug (logs, video footage, etc., minus using my wife's aforementioned Switch), I'd be more than happy to. Good luck in it's resolution.

Using the 1.11.1 hotfix, I've new information to report.

When I logged in after the hotfix was finished updating, the Aquatic update background shown. I continued having multiple "could not connect" issues when attempting to login to my user account.

I then had the idea to, using the handheld mode only, delete my Minecraft data once the card was removed. I replaced the card and installed the game, and on loading the background showed correct for the new villagers update. I logged in! Already, things were on the up and up.

I changed my skin while the game froze for at least fifteen seconds doing so. I came back to the menu after the skin change, again: freeze, and then tried to enter the realm. The realms screen was brought up, I selected the realm, and loaded into the realm for the first time in a month. BIG success.

My wife was wanting to play at this point, so she logged into her account. She logged into the realm. Keep in mind she has had minimal issues (lag, sound problems) playing the game after the updates. When she logged in my account was immediately disconnected from the realm. Internet connectivity was fine, still is, and it's worth noting again we have over 300+ hours playing this game simultaneously together on the same connection, nothing has changed on our end.

I then logged back into the server, my wife still playing, and the game loaded! I thought things might be on the up and up. I logged back in and connected for about thirty seconds, suddenly I was disconnected without warning again. Frustrated, I logged back in again and the game worked for about three to four minutes. I started lagging to the point where playing became impossible. After about five minutes the game kicked me and my wife still played like nothing ever happened.

She's been playing nonstop for the last twenty minutes. My Nintendo Switch idled out a second ago, and I brought it back from it's brief afk. Minecraft then noted a communication error had occurred. I'm no longer logged into a Nintendo account. I logged back in, my wife still playing, and immediately it told my wife I had left the realm. I never saw the world, much less had the opportunity to move in it.

My wife is still playing.

Using the new update, 1.11.0 (Nintendo Switch), and no fix. Now the problem is even worse: I can't even get into the loading screen without a crash (literally takes a few times before I'm able to select a realm).

Interesting note: On trying to load the game just now, my wife noted the menu background had changed from yesterday to the villagers/pillagers screen. This wasn't here yesterday. She logged into the realm and after a small amount of lag stated playing. So I tried to login and the game still took forever for me. When I got to the login screen (after about three to five minutes of waiting for the Mojang loading screen to disappear), we saw the background had changed on my console as well. Good news! .. bad news: suddenly, like yesterday, Minecraft complained I did not have an internet connection (which I do) and then the login screen background changed to the Aquatic version. For over 300+ hours each with two Switches on the same network, we have played this game together with no issues. I state this to clarify it is not a network bug. My wife is playing the game beside me (on Realms) at the same time I am trying this.

I was connected using a Wired account with the Switch (I use this as I play on the television), and my wife uses Wireless. I switched to Wireless after having this communication problem and then logged back into Minecraft. Same problem, communication error, could not connect. Aquatic update background still showing. My avatar changed completely. It's also worth noting that when I go back to the games' screen on the Nintendo Switch (the main menu to get to the settings menu), the entire system lags for at least half a minute. Telling the Switch to force close the game also causes lag for at least half a minute. It's literally unplayable on my system.

Yet my wife sits beside me playing just fine.

In 1.09.0 the game was lagged but playable. In 1.10.0 the game has became literally unplayable for me. My wife and I play on two separate Nintendo Switch systems, two copies of the game, both using the same connection, both playing at different times (sometimes together, sometimes not). While her Nintendo Switch experiences issues, my Nintendo Switch can barely function through the load screen, much less in game itself. This problem is new as of 1.10.0: a moment ago I started the game five minutes before my wife, by the time I hit the main menu to login she had already picked up her Switch, entered the game, logged into the server and was destroying things. All in all, my login to the server can now take upwards of 5-10 minutes from start to finish.

To make matters worse (also new to 1.10.0) the game will be functioning normally and then suddenly slow down to a crawl if not freeze altogether. I understand some people state this is relative to system saves and I understand the reasons, but this seems more related to system resources directly? In one area in particular on our server we have a number of entities on screen: villagers, numerous blocks, wood buildings, torches, flowers, greenery, all sorts of things - it's prone to be a lag haven even under the best conditions. And under 1.10.0 the area can't be entered on my Switch; I'm kicked off the server as soon as I try to enter it - a complete lag out.

Moving around from area to area, we played Minecraft (I built in a few different spots) for about an hour earlier. I was kicked from the server at least 8 or 9 times according to my wife, she continued playing on the same server with very few issues. While there are some slow downs for her, overall she's still playing (2+ hours in) and I can't even attempt it. Again, these are two different Nintendo Switch systems, two different copies of Minecraft, same versions, same connection, and it happens like this no matter if we're both playing or I'm the only one playing. My Nintendo Switch is not a fan of this version of Minecraft.

It's also worth noting we're paying for the 10 person edition of the Minecraft server with Mojang. We are not using servers based on our Nintendo Switch systems. I will update when and if this condition changes, but as far as we're concerned this issue/these issues is/are not fixed.

Thought I'd add a comment or two here but I need to add I've already posted/am watching MCPE-19308 thinking it was potentially linked to this. This may not be "related" to the same bug as my link, so I'm posting in two threads (apologies Mojang) just to get the information out there.

We've had this problem since purchasing the Bedrock edition new on our Nintendo Switch (in June). While building, blocks will randomly revert to the way they were. Earlier I was building a high building, went up several blocks and after thinking everything was fine suddenly the blocks disappeared and I died due to the fall. It's frustrating. Thankfully the respawn was close by.

Other similar instances include axing trees to have them reappear, watching other online parties zoom across the map in what seems to be a lag spike, losing inventory due to what seems to be a lag induced crash.. it's 4:50am posting this and if I were more awake I could come up with more, apologies. 🙂

The setup: My wife and I play this game regularly on the same network. We've both tried multiplayer on the same Nintendo Switch via split-screen. We also have two Nintendo Switches and connect to each other via wifi/LAN. Both have the same results, no difference.

We've also tried different routers (from a TP-Link to a Netgear, neither improved any kind of performance). We've tried using Wifi vs. Wired. This issue happens when we're playing with others as a server together or separate.

No matter what we do or how we troubleshoot, this is a persistent devil.

Can confirm this bug with the latest edition for Nintendo Switch (as of July 22nd, 2018). Chunks can be slow to load depending on the terrain. This bug does affect multiplayer gameplay on the Switch and it has occurred several times. If we wait a long period most often the chunks do load but it does take some time (10s - 1min+).

World was generated new as of the Aquatic Update's release (bought newly for the Switch).
