Lag on multiplayer is horrible at times. The game I play with some friends we have all been playing together for months is now lagging like crazy at times, whereas we never 'saw' the issue with the Switch Edition. Same people, and we have tried with the new imported world and also started a new unlimited world from scratch. It's pretty consistent. While we think we might have narrowed it down to a player's connection or two, but can't be sure without tools and even after that player sitting out for a while a new person will come in and we are back to huge lag problems which then throws it all back into question as to who or what is causing it. That then leads to the issue of bad coding when it comes to lag.
A. Some of the issues we have all noticed is that the game locally plays your moves when lag is occurring and then once the lag resolves it will then replay just a fraction of the moves it allowed you to play. This leads to people being stuck in walls if they were digging, dropping from the sky if they were flying with elytra, and having a whole row of blocks just disappear. The blocks disappearing is annoying if you are trying to build something but deadly if you are doing something like bridging lava. I mean a couple of us are about to rage quit it's so bad at times.
B. Another issue is that you can switch items in your hand and if you are in a lag situation, find that you are now digging with a torch, because the cursor will just roll back to whatever you had selected at the time of lag. This and the other behavior are totally unacceptable when lag is happening. It should not allow you to make a move, or worse let you make a move and then undo it once lag is removed. And letting you change your item then changing it back is terrible. Like I said, rage inducing at times.
C. The host of the world I play on has commented that he thinks some additional lag might be occurring during the autosave. There are no settings we can find to space this out or make any modifications so this is more of just a speculation at this time.

We have terrible lag at times too. Imported world. Very bad at my house which is near spawn. FPS is down to 10. Single player is better but still FPS is low and in multiplayer there are rendering glitches causing X-ray effects. Render fails to keep up while flying. ย I
lag is unnoticeable when several hundred blocks away. Never had this issue on Switch edition.ย

Can confirm: My friends and I can barely play the game online due to horrendous lag and rendering issues. People have died 30 seconds before they get the notification on their screen. It's absolute trash. Never had lag problems with the Switch Edition of Minecraft, nor any other Switch game I own. Mojang needs to step their game up. Apparently, people have been complaining about Bedrock since 2017, and still nothing? Get your stuff together, Mojang.ย

I would like to note that this issue still exists in Version 1.5. I would also like to mention that we have all moved to a realm which has no lag. So narrowing this down, the issue is when playing multiplayer and using the Switch as a host. We did test it before going to a realm and the lag was still there and almost/definitely unplayable at times.

You're lucky. I have horrible lag on Realms.

Thought I'd add a comment or two here but I need to add I've already posted/am watching MCPE-19308 thinking it was potentially linked to this. This may not be "related" to the same bug as my link, so I'm posting in two threads (apologies Mojang) just to get the information out there.
We've had this problem since purchasing the Bedrock edition new on our Nintendo Switch (in June). While building, blocks will randomly revert to the way they were. Earlier I was building a high building, went up several blocks and after thinking everything was fine suddenly the blocks disappeared and I died due to the fall. It's frustrating. Thankfully the respawn was close by.
Other similar instances include axing trees to have them reappear, watching other online parties zoom across the map in what seems to be a lag spike, losing inventory due to what seems to be a lag induced crash.. it's 4:50am posting this and if I were more awake I could come up with more, apologies. ๐
The setup: My wife and I play this game regularly on the same network. We've both tried multiplayer on the same Nintendo Switch via split-screen. We also have two Nintendo Switches and connect to each other via wifi/LAN. Both have the same results, no difference.
We've also tried different routers (from a TP-Link to a Netgear, neither improved any kind of performance). We've tried using Wifi vs. Wired. This issue happens when we're playing with others as a server together or separate.
No matter what we do or how we troubleshoot, this is a persistent devil.

I'd like to add to this. Wife and I play local wireless network between two switches. Game appears to autosave every 90 seconds, at which point the game lags terribly. Causes blocks to be placed without texture (invisible with boundary box only visible when pointed directly at it) on host console and placed blocks to dissapear or other work to be undone on connected console. Also seems like it could just be over ran with drowned. Our builds are near the ocean and the waters are always filled with 15-20 drowned. A couple holes full of water in the woods behind the builds, small holes mind you, are over packed with drowned. Wether we're near them or not. Also, when traveling, entire chunks won't load right, allowing you to see through the ground. You can see tons of monsters far underground. So I'd look into mob spawning and autosave as potential problem areas. One reason I'm fairly sure mob spawns are part of the problem is we used to have a large village near our build, I ended up moving the village beyond the render distance of the build and it cleaned up the lag considerably. Lag also lays off if we run around and kill all the drowned. So, there's my two cents.

I would like to add to this too. Since the update its impossible to play local network cross p,ay. Me and my son have always played this way since better together update. No problems until update. Not problems on the pocket edition. But the switch laggs terrible either in a multillayer game or p,ayjng on my own. If in multiolayer. It has a massive lag and disconnects my son and vice verses if i join a game on his edition pe. Impossible to play at the moment. Loading screens are a joke. I can be waiting for loading screens in excess of 10 minutes, from opening the game just to get to main menu all the way through to picking a map and loading the map. The map can also not load at all and disconnect before its even loaded. Please fix.

I am experiencing the same problem. I have noticed that this issue happens when the game autosaves, which occurs almost always since the Bedrock engine saves every 2 minutes and don't allow you to disable it.ย

My device is iphone 7. When connected with its own cellular efficiency, the servers are loaded and loaded but not loaded with wi-fi. Yet the wi fi I have was fast enough.

Having this same issue in v1.8.0, v1.8.1: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-41088

Having this problem too:

Iโm also having this problem, and since the latest update my world has become somewhat unplayable,
Hereโs a recording I made of a typical gameplay session on Switch
1080p 60fps capture
Time stamps in the description

In our experience, the autosave lag is the primary problem, and occurs when playing with at least 2 players on the Switch in split screen, and gets worse with the more players. By "lag" I mean that the players can still move and click on objects, but none of the interactions actually occur while the autosave icon is on the screen: doors and chests don't open, switches don't get toggled, etc. Once the icon goes away, gameplay resumes normally.
I play with my 2 sons. If we all play on the Switch the autosave lag is terrible. If we each play on separate devices (one son on the switch, one on a laptop, and me on another laptop) the game never lags. We've played with 3 devices in the following configurations with no lag problems:
On 3 separate Realms, hosted on each one of our accounts
Hosting multiplayer game on the Switch through Xbox Live
Hosting multiplayer game on either laptop through Xbox Live
Alternatively, in our experience the autosave lag occurs in all of the following situations:
Playing locally on the Switch with 2 or more players, more players = longer lag
Playing on a realm with at least 2 players on the Switch (I really don't understand this lag, considering the game is saved on a server not on the Switch, but it's what we observe)
Playing on a multiplayer game hosted on the Switch or laptop through Xbox Live, with 2 or more players on the Switch
Hope this helps in diagnosing the issue.

This is always happening to me as well and i can barely even play minecraft anymore because it is so laggy. Like everything being said here is also happening to me.
Now we are in 1.10.00 and this is still happening. ๐
Even the main screen is laggy and freezy you could just sit there looking for a skin to use and boom you hear the same tune over and over and you cant move or exit the game or anything.
WHY MOJANG WHY?!

It is mostly the autosave that glitches but the whole Minecraft server situation is a complete nightmare

This has either become worse in 1.11.4 or maybe it's just my 100 villager trading hall.ย Whenever I am in that trading hall for more than two hours, it starts to constantly autosave (hang on autosave?)ย
If I try to "save and quit" then it will hang or crash during the save.ย If it hangs, I leave overnight before giving up and powering off.ย Either way I lose 3 hours of work because it reverts back to where I started that last game.ย The loss of saving might be a new issue but I do see everything mentioned above.

Is this still an issue in the latest version?

More notes. from my post on Reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/8u3dri/its_been_almost_a_week_with_the_new_minecraft/
When a certain group of us are on, the only lag we get at times seems to be the save points. But when some others join it can range from scattered lag to instant dead in the water. We even went so far as to tell one guy that's he temporarily banned cause when he joins we all hit the toilet. But a week ago he was connecting on our Switch Edition world and it was fine for all. We don't have the tools to track down what's causing this. It could be his physical connection causing bad packets and this game just handles it bad, or a million other things that we don't have the tools to diagnose. But whatever it is, same game, older version seems to handle it like a champ. So it's either doing a better job of whatever error correction is or isn't taking place, or it does a way better job of caching up what you have done and playing it through when the lag subsides. But this version, it's horrible. When lag starts, your side will let you mine say 10 blocks and then sit there. It will also allow you to walk forward into the area you have now mined locally. Then when it catches up, instead of replaying all of your moves it only replays what seems like a random portion of your moves, but allows your character to be in the place you have moved to locally, which now still contains blocks. At that point you either take a bunch of damage all in a huge burst or you end up too far in and suffocate in a wall. So why is it coded to not clear all of the blocks you mined, but allow you to walk basically into what are still server side unmined blocks? Just seems like the logic for handling this is not correct.
Same goes for when you are building and lag occurs. Lay down 10 blocks from a cliff across from you and then walk out onto them. When lag catches up, you find 1 or two blocks actually placed and like a cartoon character you are then standing on an empty block soon to be meeting the ground however far down that might be.
One more comment. We have been in the game with horrible lag, and to test I stop the game and immediately switch over to Rocket League, and can play there just fine with no lag and a connection ping of about 60. It's really the closest we have to some kind of tool and I am sure it's not scientific in any way, but after a round of RL we jump back on and will lag with everyone standing around staring at sugar cane growing.
