Playing splitscreen on the switch got unplayable since the 1.9 patch. We play survival offline without mods or anything. The more we explore the world, the more we get problems. Huge fps drops, invisible blocks, long loading times are the main problems. We played several hours almost every day before 1.9. Now we play zero hours, because it's unplayable. If I play solo in the same world I have less problems, but still low fps.
