I was directed here by a moderater from the Minecraft Discord.
I'm also experiencing extreme lag and crashes when the game attempts to auto-save. The game file is roughly 60MB, running no texture packs and appears to be much worse when playing co-op. This severely impacts the play-ability of the game as it rolls back the server to the last auto save that didn't crash and interacts with other known bugs that appear on crashing e.g. De-spawning mobs cross chunks like horses with saddles/name tags etc.
No where in the game are there any maps in item frames etc as suggested as a work around. It seemed to be worse when myself and my co-op partner were far apart on the map, however, we tried to combat this by constantly staying within 20 blocks of each other and the same issue occurred on more than one occasion.
