Nintendo Switch fails to connect to Microsoft Account after restarting game

Workaround

Here are some things you can try if you get stuck in a loop with the aka.ms/remoteconnect login process.

  • Reboot your Switch (hold down the power/sleep button for a few seconds until a menu comes up, then select "Power Options", and then "Restart".

  • Power cycle your internet router (unplug its power cord, wait a minute, then plug it in again).

  • Reboot the device that you are using to access aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  • Clear the browser cache on the device that you are using to access aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  • Clear the DNS cache on the device that you are using to acces access aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  • Use a different device to access aka.ms/remoteconnect.

Update on this issue by [~Mega_Spud]

Thanks for your patience while we try and get this issue resolved. Let's try and keep the ticket narrowed down to a single issue where possible. Please add a vote to this ticket if you are seeing an error message after you attempt to sign in.

It would be helpful if you could also send a message to Mojang Support with your Gamertag and a screenshot of your profile screen, by going to Minecraft>Settings>Profile, scroll to the bottom and take a screenshot of the IDs shown there. (Please do not share those here at the bug tracker.)

If you are seeing the related issue where you have to log in with your account each time you restart, please see MCPE-95651.

Original Description:
After installing the game for the first time and going through he process of linking the Switch to my Microsoft Account. Minecraft signs in fine and cross play can be done.

When I exit the game and start the game up it will not sign into my Microsoft account.

I have tried turning the console off which didn't work. I deleted the software and re-installed and it still didn't connect. I then deleted the software and save data, re-installed from fresh, set up the link from Switch to Microsoft account and all works fine until I exit the game and the process repeats again.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated

Yeah me too finally I found someone else!!!!! yeah its really annoying and I tried it on to different nintendo accounts and it also would not work hopefully it will be fixed in the next update because I can't do crossplay

my video showing what happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-0Usjw0MBM

you have to wait a little bit after you sign in then it will work

migrated

What do you mean? like when do you wait? after it gets rid of the connecting screen?

please tell me in detail

Auldrick

I don't think Andrew understood your problem. Please disregard that comment.

Are you getting some kind of error message after trying to sign in, or does it just spin forever without responding?

migrated

You click the button, it spins for a couple of seconds, then just disappears like nothing happens. If you look at the video Patrick posted in his first comment, you will see it for your own eyes, which would be easier then hearing a description.

migrated

Having the same problem, have tried resetting device and game to no avail.

migrated

Pls fix this 😞

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

It might be helpful if those affected could give some information about their internet connection.

From the Switch home screen, go to System Settings→Internet→Test Connection

Please let us know your NAT type, Download speed, and Upload speed.

migrated

Nat Type: B

Download Speed: 46.4 Mbps

Upload Speed:4.9 Mbps

Note: Close suspended software before you try it, as it will slow your download speed, and maybe upload. Mine went from 39.9 Mbps (with suspended software) to 46.4 Mbps (without suspended software).

I too am in the same boat , got Minecraft bedrock for switch , 3 sec Microsoft log in , then nothing . I called Nintendo support wondering if it was some sorta conflict between the two companies , just to get "it's your internet" for almost an hour , after i proved them wrong , they flat out gave up and recommended i go here . I deleted and re installed it , still nothing ..... i can still play single player but without multiplayer or my halo/ fallout / skyrim packs not working it's just not as fun 😧

migrated

I've been trying to get answer for this from day one. I called Nintendo and Microsoft both have no answers or solutions. Outside of deleting ALL save data and getting a new reconnect code there is no way to login after first reconnect session. I have waited all morning for a response from mojang no avail. At least I'm not alone I see now finally. Which means this is a bug and they have to acknowledge it. You can't even buy anything so you think the would address this quickly

migrated

It literally has nothing to do with internet connection. Which has been confirmed via Nintendo and Microsoft. If you're experiencing the same issue where you click Microsoft sign in it says connecting in box and  then nothing.. no error yet game doesn't freeze or show any issue  yet it asks for Microsoft sign in again. Then save you're time calling Nintendo or Microsoft they can't help.

Auldrick

Please realize that this is a bug reporting tool, not Technical Support. This site is for reporting bugs, which are relayed to the developers to investigate and fix, and that takes time. Some reports may be monitored for new information, but many are not, and in any case we don't have the resources to resolve technical issues interactively or to provide status about a bug other than whether it's been reported to the developers (this one has).

migrated

if anybody was wondering no it was not fixed in the 1.15 update but bug fixes are returning now so maybe we wont have to wait as long

migrated

I hope this gets fixed soon...

migrated

Exactly the same problem here. Tired several WiFi networks and even towns from where I tried to connect. The only way to fix is either deleteng a savefile or creating a new one by creating a new Switch user. Works until restart, as stated before.

migrated

This has been happening to me since launch.

migrated

Minecraft just updated to a new version (1.5.1) with a "hotfix". It says that this issue has been fixed. However, now when I click sign in, it says "connecting..." and then tells me "We tried signing you into your Microsoft account, but something went wrong." I still cannot login to my Microsoft account on my Switch.

migrated

Having the same problems as Bryan F.

migrated

As of today's 1.5.1 update:

  • Fixed instances of not being able to login to a Microsoft Account on Nintendo Switch

Auldrick

Just to clarify, the 1.5.1 changelog says it "Fixed instances of [the problem]". The normal language they use when a bug is considered completely fixed is just "Fixed [the problem]". I'm pretty sure there were multiple bugs causing this problem, some of which were fixed with the hotfix, but others they're still working on.

migrated

Yeah well at least I’m gonna miss the huge Microsoft sale. I’m done with this game, I see you are working on the bug but I’m missing out on everything. I’m super angry right now
Hopefully they keep the sale for long enough that I can buy stuff but I doubt that

migrated

I'm upset as well about missing sale. I deleted all my data again (35 hours of gameplay included) to get reconnect code. I connected for one session then we failed to login to your Microsoft account error again. I'm beyond angry but obviously this issue is not being openly addressed I had to dig for this and I know I'm not alone

migrated

Have the same problem on 1.5.1 with networks ranging from nat type A to nat type D. On all the networks I've tested (like 5 or 6) i have the same problem.

I actually have just created an issue whch I'm going to close as duplicate since I had no success finding the correct one.

What I hate most of all here is how support hasn't answered me within... a week

Now I can at least see something's being done...

migrated

I would also like to put my $0.02 in. This is a game breaking bug for anyone who wants to use realms. This should be a priority, I have paid for server time (realms), and that time is being wasted due to this bug.

migrated

I'm wondering if there is anything we (those of us affected by this issue) have in common. I'm assuming it has to be something to do with our Microsoft accounts...? We are all using the same hardware, and we all can still login with our Nintendo IDs, so the only other factor could be the account. In my case, I've never used Xbox live before signing into Minecraft with my Microsoft account, so maybe that has something to do with it? Also, I login using my phone number rather than a username. I don't know if these things can cause an issue, but I guess it doesn't hurt to brainstorm; since this bug seems to be affecting random users, it's probably hard to replicate, which means it's hard to fix.

Auldrick

It's ok to add information such as the above that might possibly be relevant, but please remember that the bug tracker is not an appropriate place for holding a conversation. You might want to do that on Reddit or the Minecraft Discord.
I'm interested by the idea that there might be something different about your Microsoft accounts, though. Signing in using your phone number instead of a user name is rather unusual. Was this an account created for Skype, perhaps? If not, was it an existing account or one you created specifically for use on the Switch? That might be relevant.

BTW, this issue has already been passed on to the developers, but additional relevant information is always invited.

migrated

Auldrick,

I think commentators (myself included) are unfamiliar with bug reporting forums, and just wanted a chance to vent because of the scope of how this bug prevents core gameplay. I think our hope is that we can be told this is a priority for the staff, vs seemingly smaller issues like wall clipping issues or mob spawning. Having this discussion on a forum, or discord would not be beneficial to anyone. To be honest, I do not understand the complexities of debugging games or resource management at this scale, so I won't push the issue further.

That being said, I think Bryan F may be on to something. My household has two copies of Minecraft on two separate Nintendo switches. One switch was signed up for using an email login, the other account was using a phone login (Created through the Microsoft webpage that the switch directed us to). The device with email log in works perfectly, the device that used a phone log in has issues connecting to the Microsoft account.

Auldrick

I've been in touch with Helen Angel about this. She tells me that it's "definitely high priority" and that they were not alert to the possibility of it only affecting people who signed up using the phone login, so they will be checking into that right away.

Meanwhile, we only have a couple of people so far who've volunteered that they used the phone login, so we're not really sure it's a common factor in causing the bug. If it is, knowing that would be a big help, so please, everybody watching this bug, tell us how you signed up for your Microsoft account. Was it:

  • a new account for the Switch using an email address to sign in,,

  • a new account for the Switch using a phone number to sign in, or

  • an existing account originally created on some other device (and just for good measure, what MS service did you create it for)?

migrated

Thanks for keeping us posted, Auldrick. In my case, my MS account (which uses my phone number as a login) was an existing account that I've had for several years; I believe I created it for Skype in the past, but I'm not 100% sure.

(edit: As others are now confirming that not using a phone number login is solving the issue, I'm still hoping this might be somehow resolved without having to delete my save data. I've put in 45 hours on my world in the meantime.)

migrated

Also using the phone login, will try email logging in right now.

Yes this is it. With email xbox login everything works fine on my side.

migrated

Can confirm! Logged into Microsoft account, and removed the option to use a phone number to log in. The software is now performing as expected, even after game and/or switch reset!

Auldrick

@Bryan F: We can't promise anything until they know exactly what's going wrong, but there's good reason to think that the issue can be resolved, allowing you to log in with a phone number. Fingers crossed!

migrated

I made my Microsoft Account through the link that was given to me when I first bought it. I did not link my phone number and still can‘t log in. When I try login in it says it can‘t connect to my Microsoft Account. Hope my experience helps Mojang to resolve this huge issue QUICKLY!!

migrated

so I deleted my save data then I made a new Microsoft account then I did the text message login. I then made sure no phone number was connected (nothing was) then I proceeded to sign into my account on switch, and it worked also I think I logged in on my gmail account also last time maybe you should look into that also.

migrated

I have also had this problem. I have tried many things, such as archiving, reinstalling, turning the console on and off, and even deleting my Microsoft account in hopes of using a new one.  However, even after deleting the account, it still brings up the sign in error.  Also, I sometimes get a Global Resource Reset error due to a crash of some kind.  Does that mean anything?

migrated

I signed up through for Microsoft account for the first time following switch website link on my phone. I used my phone number. After just getting a email today I went in and removed my phone number so I'm only using email yet I still can't sign in. I'm not deleting my progress again for a new reconnect code.

Ok so I never had Microsoft account before

Created it through my phone cause I have no PC

Used my phone number and email during set up process

Had issues after first log out called for support

Changed email via support tec. But still linked to phone number

Deleted phone number using email only and still can't sign in

I've tried deleting and reinstalling numerous times along with deleting progress nothing has helped me

Oh and like I said I'm not deleting my progress again for reconnect code I'm done starting over only to have log in continue to fail. Until this issue is 100% solved tested and proven I'm done starting over

migrated

Alright.  1.5.3 for Bedrock on my Switch and the button is still useless for me.

migrated

Honestly what could be done about the issue to at least make users be able to workaround it would be making signing out/disconnecting from the Microsoft account available even if you're not currently signed in. Yes, I get that this won't be implemented because it's already how it's done on all other platforms running Bedrock codebase but on the other platforms there isn't an issue that makes signing out impossible in any other way than deleting all your save data... I guess I'll just stick to Java edition for playing with my friends until this gets resolved.

migrated

PLEASE FIX THIS NOW. I am also experiencing the same issue. I signed in once, played for a bit, and cannot log in again. "We tried to sign you in to your Microsoft account, but something went wrong." I have tried changing my sign in options to email only (no phone number) but it did not change anything. This is ridiculous. I only bought Minecraft on switch to play with friends. Please resolve this.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

We are working on a solution for this issue, thank you for your patience whilst we try and get to the bottom of it.

Just to confirm, has anyone been able to join correctly if they set up a new profile using a new Xbox Live (Microsoft) account that was created using an email address, instead of a phone number? If we can narrow this down to only accounts that were set up using a phone number that would be useful.

migrated

I'm not sure if email will work so I'm afraid to clear another 50+ hour save. I have set my account for email only still can't sign in. Clearing data for reconnect code is a serious problem. When online for switch is out then cloud save will be available I'll delete my data and try again. Awful awful bug this is

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

You might be able to test without deleting your data, but rather create a new user account.

migrated

They doesn't work with email:MS account,used.

1.6.0 this did not fix.

migrated

I made new Nintendo account Ive also tried new Microsoft account too (i have money tied to my Microsoft account so I can't change it permanently) I linked with email. Every time I log out or close game to login again it gives me a new reconnect code. My other account continues to fail login.

migrated

1.6 update did not fix anything. I initially signed up with phone number, but later switched to email sign in only. Still does not work. Please fix this ASAP.

migrated

Also, Mega_Spud, I tried creating a new user account with just an email but there's no way to sign into a different Microsoft account on Minecraft without deleting the saved data.

migrated

My game kept on glitching while playing and when ever i try to join a friends server or any it will load for roughly 5 seconds and glitch out back to home page.

migrated

I'm having this problem too. I don't actually remeber signing into any Microsoft account, and have no way of finding out what account I used. I think this is more a UX issue than anything. If there was an easy way of seeing what Microsoft account was associated with an account and being able to disassociate your MS account from your Switch account at a push of a button, this would solve the having to delete all your data problem and provide an easier way of starting with a clean slate without losing all your saved worlds.

You can view the gamertag of the Microsoft account in: Settings -> Profile (if there is any). You can sign out of the Microsoft account here as well: Settings -> Profile -> Sign out of your Microsoft account or Clear Account Sign in Data. This should enable you to add a Microsoft account again, without changing your Nintendo account. Please make sure you have updated the game to the latest version (current release is 1.7.0).

migrated

Ah, lovely. That's got it, thank you!!

migrated

This has been happening to me on IOS and when logging in i get the same error saying "sorry something went wrong give it another try or try on xbox.com" so far im on version 1.8.0 and wondering if for this version on pocket edition if theres a solution (one other thing i noticed is that on the error is that it says you can try on xbox.com so  im also wondering if someone knows how to login from there.)

Auldrick

If you go to xbox.com, there's a "Sign in" link in the upper right corner. Make sure you use the same Microsoft account name as you've defined in the game.

If you find out you're already signed in to Xbox with a different account, that might be why you had the problem. Try signing out and back in with the correct account.

migrated

i tried and nothing happened  and so there's no specific place on the  where you can login into the game from the website itself?

Auldrick

No, you cannot log into the game from the web site; it has to be the other way around. (Network connections are between a server and a client app, and are always initiated by the client. A connection through your browser therefore only establishes communication between the browser and the server. The game has to establish its own connection.)

I think the suggestion was that if you were having trouble signing in to Xbox Live due to a problem with your Xbox account, you could get more information about what the problem is by trying to sign in using a browser. Since you were able to sign in with a browser successfully, the problem must be something else.

Since this is only the bug tracker, we aren't equipped to help you with account problems. I would suggest checking your game Profile settings to verify that your gamertag matches the one you used to log in with the browser. Also, try turning off Wi-Fi if it's on (this is a known problem, see MCPE-35078). If these suggestions don't resolve the problem, please pursue a solution through Xbox Support.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

Is anyone still experiencing this issue in the latest version (1.8.1?) If so, when you try and connect to a Microsoft account, which browser are you using to verify the sign-in?

migrated

I am having this problem repeatedly on the Switch. I can login to live.com using an email address fine. And if I use Settings->Profile->Clear Account Sign in Data I can then log in and reauthenticate which works for a day or so. The reauthentication is a pain, however, so this isn’t fun.

migrated

I am having this issue on Windows 10. Despite my computer user being logged into my live/xbox account, being logged in through my browser (Firefox), I can't log in at all through Minecraft. It instantly bumps me to the "we're having trouble" pop up. This is the first time I've tried to use MC Win10. I've already done searches and followed common fixes on the microsoft side. My account settings are fine.

Quite frankly I would rather have a user name/password log in screen instead of the process being automated just to be better able to troubleshoot this stuff.

Auldrick

@unknown: Have you tried Settings > Profile > Clear Account Sign in Data? If that button doesn't appear in your Profile settings, choose Manage Account to open the Xbox Live app, then sign out there. When you return to the game, the button should appear.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

We would love to know any more information from users as to whether this is still happening in 1.9.0.

migrated

I’m on the latest version for bedrock Nintendo switch and I’m having this problem right now. I played without an issue for around 5 hours last night. I just decided to go ahead and buy a realm and import the world I was working on into the realm, and now I get the error “We tried to sign you into your Microsoft Account, but something went wrong.” If I go right to the realms page it loads and then shows me the loading background image frozen, then tells me “you’ve been disconnected from the server.” Reimporting the world does not work.  I’m frustrated because I just spent money on a realm and only now I can’t connect to it. Internet is fine in other switch games and on my PC/consoles.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

@unknown - Is this an issue for you in 1.10.0? If so, have you tried clearing your log in credentials through the settings menu and trying to sign in again? Also, did you set up the Microsoft account using an email or phone number?

migrated

Still happening for me.

I have bedrock on both win10 and switch. I logged in on switch, and i'm trying to join a friend's PC realm. When trying to do so on the PC, I get the error on bedrock win10 edition "failed to login: we tried to sign you into your xbox live account, but something went wrong"

Yes, I cleared my profile settings, and tried reinstalling win10 edition.

Oddly, I can purchase things on the Minecraft store, which makes me a bit frustrated.

migrated

Still happening for me in Nintendo Switch 1.11.4. I can log into my MS account via e-mail on other platforms' Bedrock games. I can purchase items on Nintendo Switch but these purchases are apparently kept locally only.

I have used the "Clear Account Sign In Data" function with and without restarting the game before trying to log in again via e-mail, to no avail. I have not deleted my save data from my Switch which I have seen in some forums might be a fix but I do not want to risk these losses over a "maybe fix".

I have more than one MS account (oops!) but: I've checked my Xbox gamercard and since my only achievement points there are from Minecraft for Nintendo Switch, I believe that I created this particular account via an in-game link.

Further, a history of recent logins on my Microsoft account appears to show all of my Nintendo Switch's login attempts as "Successful Login".

I have always been able to log into my Microsoft account to play with my friends with no issues since it first came out on switch, but today right before I wanted to play with my friends once again, this issue occurred. I do not want to delete my save data because the world we want to play on is specifically on my switch console. I am really surprised this issue has not been fixed yet since it seems to be an issue that has been occurring for almost a year now. Mojang, please fix this issue.

migrated

Bought the game on Switch to play online, and can't because of this issue. Tried all the fixes and nothing works. I just get put in an infinite loop of remoteconnect codes. Ridiculous that this isn't fixed yet.

migrated

Was often getting logged out and forced to log back in, but now am logged out and unable to log in. Getting error message "We tried to sign you in to your Microsoft Account, but something went wrong." Have tried signing in via 3 email log in accounts, each account multiple times with no luck.

migrated

Same as Aaron's here. It was fine before, but forced to log me out today, and required me to reconnect the account ( needs visiting aka.ms/remoteconnect ), after finished those things on my phone, "We tried to sign you in to your Microsoft Account, but something went wrong." shown on the Switch.

migrated

I have run into the same problem and posted an issue just a moment ago about it too. I really hope this bug is fixed soon. I bought the online services for the Switch just to play with friends that now I have only been able to use once. I use an email to sign into my account and have even tried a lot of the tricks posted on other websites such as clearing sign in data to try and fix it, but nothing has changed. Any tips would be appreciated. 😞

migrated

I've been having the same issue as Aaron, with having to log back into my Nintendo and Microsoft account multiple times, and also being disconnected from servers and other connection issues after going AFK or turning my screen off for even a few seconds. I've tried signing in with 2 different email accounts and a phone number, and it still didn't work. Really hope this gets fixed soon.

migrated

The exact same thing is happening to me, it's super annoying atm becasue i just wanna play on realms with my friends but this bug is stopping me. seeing that there's 4 other comments today alone gives me hope that it would be resolved quicker but i'm still quite frustrated by it

this is happening to me too! I've tried signing in with email and it doesn't work! tried 2 accounts! Unacceptable!

Hi All,

I'm getting the same error about not been able to login when trying to access the Microsoft account. 'Failed to login - We tried to sign you in to your Microsoft account but something went wrong'. I get the usual dialogue box of aka.ms/remoteconnect with code; but each time I get the stated error listed earlier displaying on the Nintendo Switch screen. On the website side of things all has apparently gone well with the correct conformation message saying it has worked and and email stating so to my Microsoft email account.

The version of Minecraft in using is v1.11.4 build 2242726

This is happening on my child's account on Switch. The auth through https://aka.ms/remoteconnect with his credentials is successful, but the Switch then displays the error message. It worked yesterday, and no changes were made to the account, but today it's not working.

This is a child account that I've setup in my family settings. I'm fairly certain that I did not create the account from the Switch, but instead through the Xbox website.

Hey everyone. I first encountered this problem earlier this morning when preparing to play with my cross platform friends. I'm getting the same problem that you all are getting, siging in via remote connect and getting the "failed to login" error message. I've had minecraft on my switch since February and I have never previously encountered this issue. Some solutions I've seen recommend essentially wiping the game, but considering some worlds on my switch are so old that they're from my XBox 360, I really don't want to delete my save data. Hoping this is resolved soon, I'm glad I've finally found people who are having this issue aswell.

migrated

When the store updated I got logged out of my Microsoft account. I login online & it's successfully logged in, but on the minecraft game I get failed to login. I have tried restarting, re-downloading, a new  email for the account, and clearing account sign in data. I have a switch that is less than a year old. I have a friend who is not experiencing this issue and has an older switch

migrated

I am having the same issue on the switch, it cannot login into my microsoft account. I tried redownloading, signing in multiple times via the code (says done on the the other device but I till get the "something went wrong message." I noticed this happened yesterday when the store updated, it was fine prior to this happening in the morning, but I cannot login now. Any help would be appreciated.

migrated

We're having the same problem, same as above, same build.  Just to confirm this doesn't seem to be isolated.

migrated

I am having the same problem on my Switch. Unable to sign in to microsoft account.

migrated

Unsure if related, but it's another data point. Yesterday my son was able to connect to his friend's world with no problem. Today his friend signed into his xbox live account for the first time on the switch and hosted the same world. Now my son can't connect to the world. The connection gives a timeout error after several minutes. However, my daughter is able to connect to that world from her iPad while signed into Xbox Live.

migrated

Same thing has been happening to me.

migrated

On my Nintendo Switch it keep saying that it tried to log me in and something went wrong

migrated

Everything was working fine for me this morning, then about 1 PM My wifi had an issue. So I reconnected and everything was fine, but when I tried to sign into Minecraft after turning it off and on after wifi was working fine, it would not let me sign into my Microsoft account. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, turning off and on, deleting save data. Nothing works. Please resolve this as I want to play with my friends but with this issue I can't.

migrated

It's sad to see this has been a problem for months and there is still no definite fix. I have the same problem and seeing this page really doesn't give me much hope that it'll get fixed anytime soon.

migrated

Just paid for 180 days of a realm and just got this issue like everyone else here. My microsoft account didnt have a phone linked, and ive tried everything short of deleting all data, because I have a very old and beloved world. Hope this gets fixed soon.

migrated

I found a way to fix it. You have to go into the switchs Data and actually delete all the save data.

migrated

I've been trying to log into minecraft on my nintendo switch all day and still have had no success. I keep entering the the microsoft code and it keeps saying "you're all set" and then my minecraft screen says "we had an issue while trying to connect to your microsoft account".

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

For those having the issue, are you able to try clearing your account data from the device beforehand?
Go to: Settings -> Profile -> Sign out of your Microsoft account or Clear Account Sign in Data.

migrated

I tried clearing it over and over, only fix was to fully delete the minecraft save data from my nintendo switch.

migrated

is hasn't worked for me. i cleared the data, tried to sign in and was met with the same issue

migrated

I had done that Clear Account Sign in Data things several times, but to no avail. I have also tried deleting and reinstalling the game, logging in with another Nintendo account and Xbox account, both of which have never been linked or even used on that particular Switch before. Just got the same error. So it seems that this issue is not just relative to specific accounts only.

migrated

@Caden Harmon If you re-download your save data from Nintendo Switch Online server, will that issue happen again ?

migrated

same on me too! Failed login. Who can solve the problem??

migrated
migrated

I've had the same exact issue. The suggested solution of deleting all save data is not wanted as I would like to keep my world's I've been working on for months. Also this issue has blown up recently and still no word from either mojang or Xbox support.

migrated

i been trying to solve this problem for 2 days and it still dont work. i done everything they told me and it still says "we tried to sign you in your microsoft sccount but something went wrong." everytime

migrated

Yeah it seemed to stop working for me yesterday morning after they updated the Minecraft store. I hope they fix this soon but both parties are saying it's not their issue so I don't really know when this will be solved.

migrated

Jake Funk where are seeing this acknowledged?

migrated

Both the Mojang and Microsoft Customer Support accounts on twitter keep saying that its an Xbox issue or a specific Minecraft issue. I'm going to hope that these are just bots replying and hopefully we will get a fix soon.

I have also had this issue the past 3 days. I contacted Mojang they sent me to Xbox Live support. Talked to Xbox Live support they told me to go to Nintendo. I did not reach out to Nintendo. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling game twice. I tried 2 different wifi networks for both the switch and the device I'm validating the code on. No luck for the 3 days. If I delete my save data I was able to login however once you download the save data from the cloud it again will not work. I only have one world I wanted to save so removed the rest but still does not matter. I also have my son on a different switch. He is a child account underneath my Microsoft account. Oddly enough his is still working. We both had the latest version of the game. I really have no clue how to get this working while retaining my save world. I guess I could start again but not really wanting to. Be even worse if it happens to my son he has a ton of worlds.

migrated

How has this issue not been resolved? Just like the comment above mine, I prefer not deleting the world my wife and i spent hours on. I saved that world to my cloud and tried signing in after deleting it and it worked... I've checked for corrupted data on the switch and nothing was found. Once again i prefer not having to delete my world just to play.

News by Tyson6474:
Hey Minecraft Nintendo Switch Players! We say that an issue has been going around with Nintendo Switch systems. Players that are unable to connect to their Microsoft accounts on the Switch will have to hold on. The Microsoft team is starting to figure out how to fix the issue. While you are waiting for the issue to resolve, Nintendo Switch Players are unable to connect to Microsoft accounts until the issue is fixed. Split-Screen is still available to use but not the same as the Microsoft account.

migrated

Any update? Anyone can log in again?

migrated

Where did you hear this news? I talked with Microsoft yesterday and they told me to contact mojang and/or Nintendo. Mojang says to talk to Microsoft. Nintendo just doesn’t respond.

migrated

Solved! What I did is as below:

Delete the game from Nintendo Switch.

Click the Nintendo Switch System Setting --> Data Management --> Clear all data about Minecraft from Quick Archive and Manage Software.

Download your Minecraft again, then you can log in with your Microsoft ID.

migrated

Huang this solution is not wanted as we want to keep our save data. Also I've contacted Xbox mojang and Microsoft support and Xbox is the only ones who haven't responded yet.

migrated

I tried again today still no luck.

migrated

Please do NOT do what Huang suggested. I kept seeing this response to solve this issue so I took the bait and did it and IT DID NOT WORK! just deleted all that data for nothing. All the worlds made, gone.. for absolutely NOTHING.

Also, called Nintendo Customer service line they said the problem was on microsofts end, called Microsoft and dude seemed clueless as heck and then told me the problem is on Nintendo’s end. Both are pointing fingers at each other, problem still not solved and it’s been 3 days for me now.

So frustrating paying for online subscription and can’t even use it

migrated

I may have a solution but is not warranty that it will work for everyone, some people say that deleting your data will solve the issue but others no, what I did to play crossplataform without loosing my progress was that I first disable the automatic save on the cloud(after making a backup) that users of nintendo switch online have, after that I erased delete all my data from the console and enter the game, it’s important that you sign in to the microsoft account when the automatic message of the game appears, that the only way i found to play crossplataform and whenever you want to continue with your worlds you just have to download the data from the cloud, also this help you to not loose anything is this method of deleting the data doesn’t work for you, I hope it will help somebody!

migrated

I've also had this issue since about three days ago. Sent a ticket to Mojang, but I haven't heard anything back yet. Want to keep my save data and also log into my Microsoft account.

migrated

Paco I turned off cloud backup and completely reinstalled. Didnt work.

migrated

Katherine It wont work unless you delete your save data. Its not a good solution. Then if you redownload your save again from the cloud it will stop working again. I don't understand why it only happens to some of us. My son has tons of save worlds on his. I shrunk down to 1 that I wanted to keep and still cant get logged in. Ridiculous!

Harley I did an email ticket to Mojang and heard nothing also. Got a response once from their twitter support telling me to reach out to Microsoft who of course said not their issue. I think its a Mojang issue since deleting the save file works.

migrated

I tried paco’s solution didn’t work

migrated

I am sorta lucky that I for some other reason turned off auto cloud backup a week ago, so my backup data on the cloud is dated 3 days before this issue happens. I completely wiped off the game and all save data for every user on my Switch, reinstalled the game, re-downloaded the save data, and everything came back normal, except losing some progress. When I first started the game with those old save data, it even didn't ask me to re-connect the Xbox account. It just auto-logged me in as if nothing ever happened.

Earlier today, I was forced to log out once again, but after I went through the remote-connect process, I successfully re-linked the Xbox account.

I don't think this issue is at any point solved. I just hope my experience will help you Mojang guys figure out where the real problem is.

migrated

I was able to use Haungs Comment above to successfully get logged in but it was by deleting save data.

Go to System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software > Minecraft > Delete Software

Then go to System Settings > Data Management > Delete Save Data > Minecraft > Delete Save Data for Username

After going to Nintendo eShop and Redownloading, I was able to sign in like it was a brand new app. I have my save data backed up to Nintendo Online Cloud for when this (hopefully) gets fixed. For now I can at least access the Realm which was my main world at the moment anyway.

Additionally, for whatever information it may provide, I did the above after trying a myriad of other things from clearing all login data, deleting and reinstalling, waiting 24 hours for the sign-in to "reset" to make sure I wasn't being locked out by mojang, deleting local and redownloading cloud save data, and a number of other things. with no success.

migrated

I bought the game, and signed in successfully by putting in the code. The next day I was signed out and I had to put in the code again. I was able to sign in successfully. This happened every time I closed the game but it was just a minor inconvenience. But on one day when i tried to log in, a pop up showed up that said, "tried to log in but something went wrong." I tried logging in the next day, but the same thing happened again. This happened over and over again and it still doesn't work to this day. I hope that Microsoft will find a way to patch this.

migrated

I tried again today no luck. This is quite a long time for this issue. I would honestly return the cartridge if I could. I would rather play on another platform that I would get to keep the progress. This long of an issue is not giving me confidence that it will get fixed soon and if it does if it will stay fixed.

migrated

I've had this issue of being unable to connect to my Microsoft Account from my Nintendo Switch for over 6 months. I’m not going to delete my data because I’ve put many hours on my worlds for a method that many people say that it’s just a momentary fix.
Now, hopefully this information is useful:
I am using an existing account that I made to play Minecraft on my phone, I am able to sign in into it
I use an email address to log in, but I do it on my phone
When I click on the “Sign into Microsoft Account” button, it gives me a link and a code. I’ve done the process over 10 times, and on my phone, it says that I successfully logged in, but on my Switch nothing happens, I don’t even get an error code, and I don’t log into my account. When I click the “Sign into Microsoft Account” button again, it asks me to do the same process all over again, but as many times as I try, nothing happens.

migrated

I was able to login with tylers method

migrated

I have been trying everything on my nintendo switch for the past week, but nothing is working when I try to connect to friend or connect my microsoft account. I have even refreshed my sign in options in the minecraft settings, restarted the game, and redownloaded the software. I will not be deleting my worlds just for a temporary fix. This is a serious game breaking issue I don't know how it is not getting the attention it deserves. 80-90% of people on a large Nintendo minecraft discord are having the same issues, it’s affecting almost EVERYONE. The inability to play multiplayer, realms, or log into your microsoft account needs to be fixed.

migrated

Bonus information: I used it with a preexisting microsoft account and I have refreshed the profile data under settings as well as delete and redownload the game

migrated

Hi everyone. Last week I posted here looking for answers regarding this bug which I've personally been experiencing for about a week. While my friends who already have the game haven't had a run in with this issue, today my neighbor bought the game and immidietly was faced with this problem. I don't know if this information could help, but I'm really hoping that any information I can provide will assist getting this very irritating glitch fixed sooner rather than later. Good luck to everyone else experiencing this 🙂

migrated

Hi, also having this issue on Nintendo Switch. Purchased the game for Switch and Windows 10 yesterday so I could crossplay with my girlfriend and we couldn’t. Little frustrating as crossplay was the reason I bought it...

Tried the ‘workarounds’ and none worked. Nothing seems to work.

migrated

I made an account just to say that I am also experiencing this issue and that it is frustrating for something so core to the game (ability to crossplay via realms) is blocked by a glitch that has yet to be resolved despite being known for so long. I bought Minecraft for Switch specifically for cross play with my girlfriend, yet clearly I've wasted my non-refundable money. Will be waiting for a permanent solution alongside everyone else here.

migrated

Deleting my worlds did work but that's an unacceptable solution.

Auldrick

Please remember that the bug tracker is not a discussion forum or help site. Our only purpose is to collect information about bugs and forward it to the developers. Comments are meant for providing new information about the issue to us so we can pass it along. Any other use is extraneous, creates clutter that interferes with our function, and is subject to removal without notice (although we usually just try to ignore it).

This ticket was created about a year ago to report an issue with connecting from the Switch. Several related issues were added to it over the succeeding months. Some bugs were found and fixed, but at least one remained. It was then mostly dormant until about a week ago, when all of a sudden a lot of you began commenting about problems connecting from the Switch. This did not start happening when you installed the latest release or Beta, and it happened to coincide fairly closely with changes made by the Xbox team, so it's unlikely that a new bug in the game is the cause. Nevertheless, it's possible that the Xbox changes (or something else) made the still active bug more likely to happen, so it makes sense to track your reports about the recent problem on this ticket, and we welcome them, including information about ways you've tried to work around them.

However, comments that go beyond this are out of scope. We are mostly just volunteers, not Mojang employees, so we can't respond to your opinions, questions, or complaints about the game, Mojang, Microsoft, or the pace of bug fixes. These matters are the responsibility of the Community Managers, who you can reach via the Minecraft discord, the Feedback site, or Twitter.

migrated

I followed tylers instructions step by step. Sadly i lost my worlds but on the bright side i have my realms world back and the FPS issues were almost unnoticeable. Audrick is there a location i can email customer support without it taking them months to respond?

Auldrick

I'm sorry you lost your worlds, that sucks. I'm afraid the only direct access paths I know of to official support are the Discord and the Feedback site. I'd suggest asking on the Discord who to contact and what the best way to contact them would be. If you don't get a satisfactory answer that way, I would try @HelenAngel or one of the other Community Managers on Twitter.

migrated

the problem with my Minecraft Pocket edition is that I can't even sign into my account at all when I press sign in with Microsoft account it just restarts the game again

migrated

I signed up specifically for this bug. Cannot sign in on Nintendo Switch. I can confirm that deleting save data and starting from scratch will allow me to sign in again, but this is unacceptable after the hundreds of hours put into our worlds.

Auldrick

Mojang does not expect you to delete your save data to fix this problem. That was suggested by another Switch user as a workaround in case it might help other users. Obviously, it won't be acceptable to anybody who has worlds they've invested considerable time in.

migrated

Gregory. I did the same thing. I signed up specifically for how big this issue is and it may never get resolved from what I am seeing.

Auldrick

@unknown: If you're saying that because you're expecting status updates and not finding them here, you're looking in the wrong place. All we do on the bug tracker is pass your information to the developers. After that, we don't know anything more until they tell us it's fixed. For status updates, contact the Community Managers.

migrated

Who are the community managers and how do we contact them then? Where do we actually go for status updates then? Or even an acknowledgement that theirs an issue. Every other avenue of support is shrugging their shoulders and sending us here, including Mojang Support on twitter, Xbox Support on twitter, and even the official Discord channel.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

Just a quick update on this issue! I am a Community Manager on the Minecraft Team, and please be assured that we are looking into the issue.

Please remember that this is a bug tracker and not a forum for discussion or feedback. It would be appreciated if we can please keep any comments limited to new, relevant information about the bug only, and add a vote if you would like to show your interest in this issue.

While we understand your frustration at certain game feature or mechanics not working as you would always like or expect, please remember that there is not always a simple fix that will resolve the issue immediately. Please be assured we are actively looking into a solution though.

Regarding possible workarounds for the issue, here is what we know so far:
The issue can be temporarily resolved if the player creates a new LOCAL Switch account & then logs into that local Switch account with the same Nintendo Online account & Microsoft account that they used previously. (This doesn't necessarily help with the original account, but may enable you to join another's world.)

Also, some users have found that after four attempts to connect, they were able to do so successfully.

I appreciate that these are not ideal solutions, but I hope we can get you logged in in some way until we have fixed the issue completely.

HI~ I'm having the same issues as above, etc.

Regarding the temporary fix of creating a new local Switch account. Do you mean a new user? I tried creating a new user and I was able to sign in and connect my Microsoft account successfully. But when I tried to go on realms it said I needed to buy the Nintendo Online account. Earlier I had tried to associated that NO account with the new Switch user, but it wouldn't let me because it was already associated with my original Switch user account. Any suggestions? Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to have to buy another NO account.

Thanks.

migrated

Potential fix .

Firstly Upload your game save to the cloud.

Secondly delete your saved data for minecraft.

Thirdly delete the game and redownload the game .

In theory you will be able to sign into your windows accounts for cross platform play. Your single player worlds will be secure in the cloud. Id suggest not to recover those maps until this bug is fixed unless you want to risk having no access to crossplatform play .

My personal experience of this fixes my FPS and log in issues. I tested my fps in the end while fighting the dragon, this was not really viable before it was a very noticeable change.

Audrick  apologies i will stick to bug chat only . Gd work on your fast proffessional responses . Any complaints i have will go directly to mojang customer support. I advise others to do the same.

migrated

Basically this is a platform side bug not Xbox because i get the successful sign in reports to my phone and Microsoft account Xbox support really cannot resolve this problem because its not from their side but platform side, also i realized because i have 2 switch's after beating the Ender dragon in my second switch for some reason the bug appeared once again i don't know if its just a coincidence but the bug also appeared on my first one after deafeting the ender dragon...i do not know if this is of some use but here is the info.

Day 14 and still not able to connect to my microsoft account.

migrated

I tried the suggestion of 4 times in a row login attempt register code each time. No luck.

migrated

Have tried from both existing profiles on my switch, as well as one I freshly created for this purpose.

Have tried clearing account sign in data, close and reopen software. Have tried signing into existing and freshly created MS accounts. If I'm lucky enough to get a prompt, its just the "we tried signing you into your microsoft account, but something went wrong."

Terrible export support means i cant just dump the game data and reinstall or I kill the last 9 months of my kids work across multiple maps. Well done on that one (seriously? no export to SD card? WTAF?!?)

Sure glad i bought multiple copies of a game, that i cant even play with my kid.

This ticket was created: 21/Jun/2018 11:11 PM - Pathetic. Nearly a year old bug as of this post, and its still not been resolved. Would refund all 4 copies of the game, if I could.
Cool game, if you wanna play alone. Or pay more for a realm.

How much you wanna bet I can go pirate a copy and get my own server up by the end of the day?

Auldrick

@unknown: This ticket was not created for the problem that prompted all the recent comments. The original problem was only still affecting a very few people, if anyone.

Your problem happened suddenly on June 26, barely a week ago. It is not the same problem and should not have been reported on this ticket, but people just read the summary line and didn't look at the description to see if it sounded like the same problem. Then everybody else piled on. It should have had its own ticket, but the flood of comments came too suddenly for us to steer people to a different ticket.

migrated

Ive had the problem since the day I purchased to game haha, I didnt think much of it becuase my wife and i didnt play at the time so i was just deleting worlds when i got bored.

migrated

Auldrick. Mojang support and Xbox support on twitter are both directing people to this specific bug report for this problem. So are multiple people on Discord. I suspect that’s where a large influx came from, not a misreading of the Summary Line.

For people affected by this bug, the Nintendo Switch has no online functionality, marketplace included. The 4 attempts workaround did not work, and creating another local account on the Switch requires us to buy another online pass for the switch, to say nothing of the Realms we are paying for, running, and now can’t access.

migrated

I would gladly copy all my info to a new correct ticket if it helps.

Auldrick

@unknown: I don't know when you purchased the game or exactly which problem you're referring to. (I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, I know the symptoms hardly differ between the original one and the one that started 9 days ago.) If you mean this has been happening to you for months, did you add your experience in a comment at the time? If not, feel free to add one now, because I can't be sure a fix for the newest problem will make the older one disappear.

@unknown: Thanks for the heads up. The recent problem is already so entrenched on this ticket that sending you here to add your experience is appropriate at this point. We're not planning to split the new issue into its own ticket, it's too late for that. I just wish they understood that they should send you to Community Management if you have questions or complaints about the problem, since we can't answer or respond to those.

@unknown: Thanks for the offer, but as I said just above we're not planning to make a separate ticket now, it'd be too much trouble. We'll just make do and be careful to ask which issue you're referring to, as I did above with Juan Reyes.

Thanks, everybody, for bearing with us! We know they're working diligently to find a solution, so keep believing!

migrated

I have a similar issue on the Nintendo Switch's bedrock version of Minecraft. No matter how or what I try to do, my attempts to sign in to my Microsoft Account I always have gotten the message:
Failed to login
"We tried to sign you in to your Microsoft account, but something went wrong."
This started to happen a few weeks ago, so about mid June 2019.

Edit 1: It used to work fine but now just will not work. Now it just says to go to aka.ms/remoteconnect and gives me the error message once I complete the linking online. Whether on M.. Edge or G. Chrome.

Edit 2: I got it working again after going to the place where I first connected the account to my Nintendo Switch (Phoenix AZ). Opposed to when I tried to connect it in the city I was visiting. This problem seems to have to deal with Microsoft's system to make sure it is you. Log in to your account multiple other ways (, other games, profile settings, etc.).

migrated

This is a problem. Not being able to sign in into the microsoft account. Even in version 1.12.0 the most recent update, the problem still occurs.

migrated

I finally received a reply from my Mojang support email. They stated it should be resolved. I downloaded a patch on my switch and it is now working properly for me. Check today and see if it works for you also.

migrated

I downloaded the update that seemed to fix the issue for some people, but unfortunately I am having the same issue still. Is there any hope that the issue is still being looked at?

Auldrick

It is still being looked at. Please continue adding new information if you have any.

migrated

I downloaded the patch and it is still not fixed for me.

migrated

This thread has helped me a lot. Thanks to all of you this was really helpful. It seems to be working now. I've had no problems so far. Hopefully everybody else can have this issue fixed.

migrated

I can successfully log in now

migrated

I have updated the game and it still has the same error. I literally cannot play this game until this error is fixed.

migrated

Okay so day 2 of trying it after the update and it finally let me in. I did nothing different so maybe it's like a roll out deal and more people will be let back in as time goes on.

Auldrick

Since release 1.12.0 came out, several new people commented that they have this problem, and then a couple of them commented to say it went away the second time they tried to log in. I personally had never had the problem before, but had it the first time I opened 1.12, and like the others it went away the second time I tried. To me, this suggests that a fix for the original problem may have caused a glitch for people who didn't have it, and the solution is simply to try again. But there are still a couple of the new people who haven't commented with an update. I'm not sure if that's because they haven't tried, or they tried and it didn't work, or it worked and they didn't think to update us.

Is anyone still having this problem after trying twice to log in to their Microsoft Account using 1.12?

migrated

I am still having this issue. I have updated to 1.12 and it still won’t work.

Auldrick

@unknown: As you had just bought the Switch when you reported this problem, I assume you've never successfully logged in to your Microsoft Account. I think that's probably a different problem, and I'll need to ask another staff member to look into it.

Anybody else still having the problem in 1.12 after trying to log in twice?

migrated

I have never logged into a Microsoft account, correct 🙂

migrated

@auldrick yes. I still cannot log in even after the patch. I used an old microsoft account and have been able to log in before, but not for the past 2 weeks or so. Ive tried resetting the log information in setting and deleting/redownloading the game

Auldrick

Sorry you're still having trouble. Thanks for the information. We'll keep this ticket active,

migrated

I just hard reset the system along with my wifi, and i cleared accounts under the systems tab in minecraft and it is now working great

Auldrick

Glad to hear it, and thanks for letting us know! I think we'll keep this ticket open for a bit longer anyway, in case someone else still has the problem and can't fix it the way you did.

migrated

I'm trying to connect to the Switch using my PC. Whenever I start the world on the Switch, any attempt to connect to the Switch will fail. I've hard reset the Switch with the wifi and cleared the accounts under the settings tab and it has been finicky. Very rarely will it allow me to join.

I've also tried connecting the Switch to my PC and I'm having the same issue. On the PC it'll say my Microsoft account got disconnected with little warning, and the Switch user cannot connect. And sometimes very rarely it will work.

Oddly enough, when my cousin hosts a game on his PC, we were both able to connect to his game, but he's unable to join to the Switch.

Update: After trying to start a game on the Switch as the host, it will briefly appear and then disappear on the PC. After about 10-15 minutes, the Switch will lose connection from its Microsoft account. I've checked the NAT settings under the Switch and it's listed at B, so it's definitely not that.

Before the 1.12  update, the games were working without any problems, but stopped working as intended after the 1.12 patch.

migrated

I deleted my user profile and re-downloaded it, this worked and I could login to my Microsoft account but once I closed the software and turned it back on I had the same issue as before so will need to do this work around every time I close the software

migrated

Same here, I've been dealing with this issue for a while, I figured it out many months ago. I never bothered it until recently I wanted to play minecraft on my switch with my friends on pc, so I did what the game told me to do so, go to aka.ms/remoteconnect, use code, login, and all that. I had to create a new microsoft account. The chrome page told me it's all done, but the game kept telling me I can't log in. I tried with 2 more other accounts but nothing different. I hope this bug's fixed soon

migrated

I have found that deleting my account and linking it to a new profile works and the game runs as intended. I can close the software and it still works and allows me to sign in. However, issues arise if I re-download my save data from the Nintendo cloud, I get all my old worlds back but can not login to my Microsoft account. I’m not sure if this helps the devs in their troubleshooting of this bug.

migrated

I have found that, for me at least, going back to the location I originally connected my account to my Nintendo Switch, has fixed the issue, but likely not entirely. I believe that Microsoft's system to stop others from getting into your account had locked me out of my account. I think you would have to go to your profile settings or something to fix but I am not sure.

migrated

I've gotten around my issue by having the Switch account log off  from its MS account and relogging back in. It seems to work most of the time as long someone joins quickly. Once that's done, the game works normally as intended and anyone could join the host (Switch).

migrated

I can’t remember how I made the account sorry.

anyway got the error and wasn’t signed in then I got the link to sign in from a different device. Then it gave me an error message saying it doesn’t exist. Got the error message again now using my phone number. And then I signed in again but it didn’t actually sign me in on my switch. And then it worked the last time. I will post pictures.

Thanks for everyone's patience while we try and resolve this issue. For anyone still affected by it, could you please check that you are using the latest released version 1.12.0?

migrated

Hi Jay,

I am on 1.12.0 and I have this issue if I redownload my old save data from the Nintendo cloud.

migrated

I am on 1.12.0.

migrated

You can see some of the people’s version in some of the screenshots btw

migrated

I am using the 1.12.0. The issue still persists. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

migrated

Also using 1.12 on an Android tablet. My daughter now locked out of account and no longer has access to a load of content that she has purchased and stuff that she has created. If there is solution to this issue it would be really good if someone could post it here because I have been spending hours trying to resolve. Nobody really seems to have a clue what is going  on.

It seems to me that the whole system seems to have become massively overcomplicated with the slightest change unwittingly locking loads of people out. The overcomplications seem to have been caused by the different firms insisting that purchases are made via accounts on their systems but not cooperating to ensure their systems work together. It is the consumer that is suffering.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

@unknown - If you are having a similar issue on Android, I think this would be better tracked in its own ticket, so we can keep comments limited to the specific issue affecting the platform. (We don't usually split bugs into different affected platforms, but we believe the issue with Switch is likely to be unrelated to any issues on other platforms.)

I would advise you to first get in touch with Mojang Customer Support directly, and see if there is an issue with your account that they can assist with.

I just wanted to update
I had this issue for more than 6 months, but after the last update it got fixed! (I even bought a realm) I posted a previous comment giving information on this same thread and for me it got solved. Thank you for working on it! I hope it can fully get fixed for everyone soon.

Also having this issue. Signed in successfully one time with a new microsoft account created for this purpose. I added my phone number and email but sign in with email. Also tried signing in using the microsoft authenticator app.

Switch system version 8.1.0, v1.12.0 Minecraft build 2467411 branch 12. Internet connection info: NAT Type B, Download 30.6Mbps Upload 4.8Mbps

Let me know if there's more details I can provide

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

Is this still an issue in the latest version (as of today)?

migrated

I am still experiencing this issue today. Aside from my connection speed, I have the same Switch software/firmware versions as Miles in the comment above.

I was able to log in to the same account on my PC, so it doesn't appear to be a password issue. However, my PC is on a different version of Minecraft (v1.12.0, build 2543589, branch 12)

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

@unknown - Would you be able to help us diagnose the issue that you are seeing a bit further perhaps?

Could you create a new private ticket with the following information:

  1. What error message you are seeing (i.e. what does the failure look like?)

  2. Your XBL gamertag

  3. If possible, your time zone (we may need to repro the bug in real time)

migrated

I am also still having this issue. I was only able to log in once when I made a new Microsoft account but then the next day I was not signed in and still unable to sign back in using the same account. Any help/updates would be wonderful thank you.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

@unknown - Are you seeing the issue on Nintendo Switch also?

Would you be able to provide the same information requested above? (You can create a new private ticket.)

  • What error message you are seeing (i.e. what does the failure look like?)

  • Your XBL gamertag

  • If possible, your time zone (we may need to repro the bug in real time)

migrated

I am a Nintendo Switch user and Minecraft has started having this issue today.

I have:

  • Attempted login multiple times, using both a Laptop and Mobile for the Mocrosoft login

  • Closed and restarted game

  • Reconnected to WiFi and ensured internet was working

  • Toggled airport mode on and off

  • Adjusted privacy settings in Microsoft account

  • Reset Microsoft Account Password

  • Archived the game and reinstalled.

The issue still persists.

Looking forward to more information on a fix, as I purchased the game recently and have been playing this with my young daughter who uses iPad, so I need online services.

Note: Any solution that involves us losing oir Survival world is not acceptable.

Thanks

Hey, I'm having this same issue with Minecraft Pocket Edition.

I tried redownloading the game, clearing the cache and storage data, clearing account sign in data and logging out and in of Microsoft / Xbox. When I cleared Minecraft's cache and storage data or when I redownloaded Minecraft and started up the game, I clicked log in and chose my account and it will try to log in, but it will stay stuck on "signing in with your Microsoft Account" until I press cancel, then it will give me the error and will keep giving me the error when I press on log in.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

@unknown Could you provide the details of your device please? Which error message are you seeing, can you provide a screenshot?

migrated

I got same problem here but the game take me to the loading screen or the game crashes i have talk to Xbox support but they said talk to mojang the problem started for me for 2 days ago wanna play on my worlds im on Android i have try to unstall the game and download it again but nothing works

migrated

When I try to log in to Xbox live it just crashes. But your so close to fixing it.

migrated

@Mega_Spud Ok, nevermind, the issue apparently resolved itself for me. But, it was giving me the same error message as a lot of other people, it was giving me this error message before "we tried to sign you in to your microsoft account, but something went wrong" For some reason it's fixed now?? Lol. 👍

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

@unknown - Ok thanks for the information.
(Also, please limit the number of edits you save in a comment, each time you edit and save, it sends a notification email to everyone watching the bug report.)

Auldrick

@unknown: Please try to avoid repeatedly editing comments, as each time you save it causes a notification email to every person watching the ticket. You can check what you've written by using the "Visual" selection under the comment entry text box. It appears that you're trying to ping Mega_Spud by using the special syntax that links to a Mojira user account. That really isn't necessary and doesn't cause a ping or notification, but as info, the syntax for that is to precede the Mojira username (not the full name that appears in comments) with a tilde (~) and enclose it in square brackets. So what you were looking for was "@unknown" but without the space before the tilde.

Sorry, I literally made my account today, so I didn't know that was the case.

Not working here i just update the game to 13.0.5 on Google play store but i cant sign in to my Xbox account

It has been fixed in the new version 1.12.1, check it out if it is fixed

I was never having this problem before. My game updated today and now it keeps failing to log in to my Microsoft account.

[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay)

@unknown - Have you tried clearing your sign in data and then reconnecting your account again?

Go to Settings>Profile>Clear Account Sign in Data - you should then be able to sign in and reconnect your account. Could you confirm whether that resolves the issue for you please?

migrated

@[Minecraft] Meta_Spud (Jay Wells) I did try that. It actually happend because Xbox One Services were down so my Microsoft account couldnt log in.

I have a friend who has this problem too, but now it's on the ps4 verision of bedrock.

I have Minecraft on PS4 and it stills happening

For me every time you restart Minecraft on switch it doesn't remember your login.... It's a pain to have to do the whole website login process every time... My kids cannot play Minecraft on their switch until I re log them in.

migrated

Same here, furthermore when it is logged in (before restarting) it does not sync my purchases for my marketplace.

Anybody else having same marketplace issue as me?

migrated

Yes @HarvzRB having the exact same issues with not completing sign in and also purchases missing from switch account. The game is unusable at current state. What on earth happened?

migrated

Going to the instructed http://aka.ms/remoteconnect works...  I can log in to my account there... then it says "Done! You've successfully logged in..." but the Bedrock Minecraft 1.14.1 on Nintendo Switch just sits there waiting to give me the "Successfully logged in" notice ...forever.

migrated

Having the same issue.  Sometimes it won't sign in, but when I kill the app, and restart it on the switch, after startup the app IS logged in, without further intervention. As above, however, I never get any sort of success notification, and it looks like it's failing, sometimes just never coming back from the aka.ms screen, sometimes never moving forward from the "save to xbox live" screen.

migrated

Having the same problem here as well. Also, every time I log in, it tells me to Save my purchases to a Microsoft account. This is every time! Then it asked me to sign in again where it never fully does? I'll post a pic of it.

Edit: If relevant at all, I'm using a Switch Lite and a Download copy of the game. I dont know how to resize the image...

Having the same issue. Every time I run Minecraft on my Switch its back to “Sign in with a Microsoft Account”. After entering codes and getting signed in, I still can’t access my Realm. It doesn’t show up. I also get a “Temporary Account” error about it not being the primary account for the device. Also also, I just bought a realm on the Switch version just to see if that would at least show up. It took my Minecoins but some getting an error “Something Went Wrong” - your purchase succeeded, but we couldn’t creat your Realm right now. I’m at a loss for words...

migrated

Happens to me as well since I bought the Switch-Version about a week ago. Logged in via E-Mail on an pre-existing Account. Minecoins and purchases also don't link to my Account.

Edit 20/Apr/20: Working for a while now, seems to be since Version 1.14.30 got released

migrated

Happens to me too @Alex. I get the same message.

migrated

I have such thing too

I have two Nintendo Switch Lites - one won't stay signed in at all and the other had zero issues. Both are playing on cartridge versions.

migrated

I bought the game yesterday for my Nintendo Switch, it keeps giving me the "something went wrong" error anytime I try connecting my Microsoft account.

EDIT: I managed to fix my issue, I think. First, I deleted Minecraft's software/save data/cloud save from my Switch. Then I redownloaded the game, but this time I put it on the Switch's hard drive instead of my micro SD. Now it lets me sign with the microsoft account and play online, but it showed me an error message about the Marketplace.

New report of same issue.
Device = Nintendo Switch Lite
Switch System Version = 9.1.0
Region = Australia/New Zealand
Time Zone = Brisbane (e.g. Brisbane/Queensland/Australia = GMT+10, daylight savings not observed so GMT+10 all year round)
Minecraft Version = 1.14.1

Details of issue = new Switch Lite, purchased on 26-Dec-2019. Updated to latest system OS version before installing anything else. Only one local Nintendo device account. Bought Minecraft on cartridge, installed and updated to latest version before doing anything else (e.g. before playing, logging in to either Nintendo account or Microsoft account). Was able to create Nintendo account on device and log in to that without issues. Attempted to sign in using existing Microsoft CHILD Account (e.g. separate Microsoft Account linked to my Parent account) but not successful. Account is successfully used to log in to Xbox One S console AND is successfully used to log in to Minecraft on Apple iPad - my son also plays Minecraft on both those devices.

Sign-in behaviour as follows:
1. From Minecraft main menu, choose 'Sign in with a Microsoft Account' button
2. Message displayed about Saving purchases to a Microsoft Account with options for either 'Save to Microsoft Account' or 'Leave on Device' (same as screenshot IMG_20200113_012000.jpg on ticket). We choose Save to Microsoft Account as the intent is to sync all maps/etc. between multiple devices all running Minecraft.
3. We receive the Sign In screen that says to go to aka.ms/remoteconnect
4. On a Microsoft Windows 10 PC, using Google Chrome, we go to that web site - put in the code from the Switch, log in to my son's Microsoft Account - using his Microsoft Account email address as log in name - he does NOT have mobile phone number associated to his Microsoft Account. This is successful as we then get the following message on the PC screen:
All done!
You're now signed in to Minecraft for Nintendo Switch. You can now safely close this window.
5. Absolutely nothing happens after this. E.g. the Nintendo Switch Lite still has the Microsoft Sign In window directing us to go to aka.ms/remoteconnect - I have left it like this for what I think is a reasonable amount of time (at least 10 minutes) and it never goes away.
6. This leaves us with only two options - hit the B button on the Switch to go back; or click the cross in the top right corner of the Microsoft Sign In dialogue box.
7. Regardless of which option we try (I have tried both choose B (go back) and tapping the x on different run throughs), we then get the exact same screen as per screenshot 2020011912164300-11B64E28AD7A49CA9EC8AC007BE858C6.jpg previously logged on to this ticket by another user.
a. From that message if we choose Go Back, we go back to the screen that asks about Saving purchases to Microsoft Account - as per step 2 above.
b. This is where it gets weird - if I again choose 'Save to Microsoft Account' - it goes back to the Minecraft main menu AND shows my son's Microsoft Account handle where the 'sign in to microsoft account' button was before.
c. However, even though it now seems to have successfully logged in - it hasn't properly or at least fully - none of the content that he has on other devices running Minecraft - Apple iPad and Microsoft Xbox One S console - are sync'd down. This include minecoins, etc.
We know that his Microsoft Account does have all that sync'd successfully as he uses both the Xbox console and his iPad and they synchronise successfuly between them.

If I now try what others have suggested and go in to Profile, choose to sign out of his Microsoft Account; then Clear Account Sign in Data, fully close Minecraft and then re-open it again, I am in the exact same position as where I started in my step 1 above. If I try to log in, I get the same result as detailed above (at least it is consistent).

Not sure if there is any local device logging that I can access to find out what is happening under the bonnet (so to speak) - if you provide me instructions, happy to pull this and send it in.

Brett.

migrated

I have exact the same problem like Brett. I only bought it because of the synchronization function of all Platforms. I have Minecraft on PC, XBox, Fire Tablet and Android. Hope i can get a refund!

migrated

I have a sign in problem aswell! The game will allow me to sign in and let me join servers and everything as normal but everytime i close and reopen the game i will get the 'automatic-sign in has failed' error forcing me to manually login every time i open the game and considering how the login process works on nintendo switch it gets a bit annoying. Clearing account sign in data in profile settings does not help at all.

I just downloaded the game today and This is STILL a problem. On my laptop it says "You're now signed in to Minecraft for Nintendo Switch. You can now safely close this window." However it does not change anything on my switch lite. The same prompts still how up giving me codes to link the accounts. It doesn't say they've been linked. This is the first time ive ever downloaded the game and my only microsoft account with minecraft. Doesn't seem like anything has been done to fix this.

My son and I are both having this issue on our XBox One console, but it's working fine on PC 😞

migrated

Everytime I leave Minecraft on my Nintendo Switch... Minecraft deosnt saved my mircosoft account on Minecraft... I always have to put a code and sign in.. This is sometimes to much when rushing to get back on the game... It's basically fails to save login instead and don't auto login..

migrated

Hi All - same problem here. Tried to connect through existing accounts or new created one, no way to link the switch game to the Microsoft account. Could you please assist? Thanks.

migrated

I also have this issue on Nintendo Switch.

When I installed Minecraft I signed in with my Microsoft account, which is an e mail account. But my worlds no longer appear on tSwitch, and when I try to play online or go to the Marketplace it asks me to sign in. When I click on the Sign in button nothing happens.

migrated

it effects 1.16.0.67 beta too

migrated

I was trying to sign in on Minecraft on my Mac, and every time I tried to sign in using the correct email and password (which I double checked with my phone and it worked fine then), I definitely didn't have caps lock on, and I even typed my password into the email bar to look at it to make sure it was correct, copied it and pasted it into the password box(and added email), but it still didn't work. Please fix this.

migrated

On an unrelated note, on the sign in screen for Minecraft it has a question mark thing you can hover your mouse over, and there is a link you should be able to click, but when you move to click it the text and link disappears.

migrated

I reset my password, and it made me add a special character that was not needed for the Microsoft account on my phone, so... But it finally worked, maybe the requirements for a password changed without my knowledge even though we had reset it maybe a month ago.

migrated

I just bought Minecraft on my switch and I log in and nothing changes and then I try again and it fails to connect? I'm annoyed considering I just wasted $30

migrated

After having the same trouble with Minecraft - Nintendo Switch Edition, I managed to recover all downloable content previously purchased on Marketplace with my Microsoft account. Try this:

1) Log in with your MS Account (Outlook, Hotmail, etc) in the XBox Live website (on your PC). Use the same MS account you registered in Minecraft to purchase DLC in the Marketplace.

2) Select "account preferences". Update your player tag (the name displayed for the community, usually printed on the left/botton corner of the main menu of Minecraft). Once your player tag is updated, keep your session started on the PC.

3) Turn on your Nintendo Switch and make sure your Internet connection is working. Open "Minecraft for Nintendo Switch". Be patient . Your new player tag should be displayed in less than 30 seconds. Marketplace will be downloading the content you purchased with that MS content before.

Hope you find this useful,

Joaquín

For like the past day or two kinda unsure anyway it has been kinda working I didn't have to really sign in much until later today the same issue seems to be coming back. Y'all need to please fix this issue.. I don't like have to do all this just to play minecraft online.. Please fix this.. Minecraft Nintendo switch is seems great other than this...

migrated

It's quite frankly ridiculous that this issue has been open for as long as it is. The unreliable, seemingly buggy, integration with Microsoft on this is incredibly frustrating and flat out doesn't work much of the time. I will literally go through the account linking process only to be immediately prompted to relink the account. Maybe after a few tries it will finally deign to sign in. As someone who works in software and has experience in support roles, the fact that this issue persists is unacceptable.

migrated

I have had this issue  Tried archiving the game, Didn't solve the problem.  I thought it seems to be related to the new minecraft update, BUT as previously mentioned the aka.ms step appears to work (i did see the XBOX account name appear) but then fails after a short while.  My theory was that the XBOX account wasn't playing nicely with the new minecraft code.  So maybe refreshing / renewing the XBOX account might solve it.

So I updated my son's minecraft account via XBOX online webpages.  I just changed the colour of the background, so a very simple change.  Then the login is successful.  I've not had a chance to see if auto-login after swapping to an alternate game still works though, so whether this is a 'real' fix.

My theory is that the new minecraft code needs a recently updated (or newly created) XBOX account to login successfully.  Perhaps Mojang testers can look into the XBOX "account last update" timestamp as an approach to resolve this really irritating bug.

migrated

This issue has been going on since the game released on Switch. This issue was opened two years ago. I have been a software developer for 16 years with much C++ experience and would love to fix this if you'd hire me and I could quit immediately afterward. Thanks!

This bug just started for us recently & it's annoying, I only get a little bit of time with my son before he has to go to bed for school & half that time is spent deleting & downloading the game for it to only work for few minutes one day & doesn't work again the following day 😭😭😭

The 1.16.40 Hotfix should be available on Switch now, and we would like to hear from those previously affected if the issue is resolved now?

Having this issue for the last month or so. Using an account which was created with microsoft for some time. Managed to login in April & May. Login worked till around July. In August I was requested to login again. I tried logging in on aka and it is successful. Soctware is up to date. Tried changing my microsoft password & log in on pc. No success. Kindly advisei on a way forward.

We had this problem today—aka.ms/remoteconnect said we had successfully logged in and the Switch appeared to log in fine, but then a few seconds later we got the 'Failed to login' message on the Switch and we were signed out. I followed Alan Sherman's advice from a few posts above:

https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-34662?focusedCommentId=800132&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-800132.

I logged into my daughters Xbox account at https://account.xbox.com changed the profile picture and background colour, and saved the changes. After this, I logged in via https://aka.ms/remoteconnect again, and the Switch stayed logged in. No idea if it will last until tomorrow, but my daughter is happy now.

I have two nintendo switch systems, one lite version and one initial launch switch. Both devices have separate accounts to login to Microsoft. Almost daily I will have to re-authenticate to the https://aka.ms/remoteconnect on both devices in order to play online. Microsoft is saying this is a Mojang issue. Both devices are on the latest version of Minecraft and both devices have the latest Switch software. I have not altered either device meaning they are both running OEM software and are not hacked or have any side loaded software. This issue has been on going for over 6 months for me personally. Whatever "hotfix" was pushed out did not fix the issue. Just in the last 2 days I've had to re-login to both devices after closing down Minecraft. The issue is not fixed as of 9/19/2020. If for any reason the device is turned off or Minecraft is closed out for a few hours, aka.ms re-authentication is required. Please address.

Same problem here on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite but only with one of my daughter's accounts.  I'll send a message to support with that information.  I'm telling Mojang this right now, will not buy another Mojang product any time soon after the run around on support for this issue I have received.

I've contacted Mojang who just stated they were focused on "Java Edition Issues", then Nintendo who stated not their problem, then  Microsoft who at least checked out the account to ensure no issues, but ultimately stated it was either Mojang or Nintendo's problem.  Here I am again, 3 weeks and 50 account authentications later starting over.

If you're going to make a product, and partner it with two other companies, one of you needs to decide who the heck is going to be the single point of contact for support.  All I know is that this issue ONLY occurs with Minecraft, not any other game on the Switch, and my Microsoft account is fine - so MOJANG should be who I contact to fix this problem.

GoldenHelmet

Started getting this yesterday and have not been able to use my account on Switch since. Have tried to sign in over 30 times. Before yesterday, I used my MS account on the Switch for over a year without this kind of problem. Then seemingly randomly, it showed that I was not signed in. When I try to sign it, it gives a code that I enter into the aka.ms/remoteconnect site on my phone. I enter it, and then on my phone browser it says I am signed in. But on the Switch it does not confirm the sign-in. What it does do varies:

  • Sometimes after my phone browser confirms sing-in, I back out of the remoteconnect code screen and it immediately pops new remoteconnect code.

  • Sometimes it reverts to showing the "Sign in with your Microsoft account" button on the Minecraft menu.

  • Sometimes it shows that it is trying to sign it on the Minecraft menu, but it never gets past that.

  • One time it did show me signed-in for about 20-30 seconds before a message popped up "We tried to sign you in to your account, but something went wrong."

UPDATE:

I was able to get signed in on Switch again by using a different device to access the remoteconnect page and input the code (my laptop PC instead of my iPhone). However, I had to do it twice--the first time it confirmed the sign-in on the Switch but then left me with just the main screen background and no menu (MCPE-50344). I then had to force-close Minecraft from the Switch home screen, reload Minecraft, and repeat the remoteconnect procedure. Now all is back to normal.

Hum, personally I can't even access the GUI to get the code. I already tried multiple times the setting to erase login informations but it just does nothing. I don't know what to do anymore except waiting for an update but this bugs seems to exists for a long time.

GoldenHelmet

This issue may be triggered by being logged in to the Microsoft account on a different device. The original description on this report says that the login works at first but not after restart. That could be triggered by using the account on a different device in-between, or even right after logging in. In my case, the problems described in my previous comment might have been triggered by using the XBox app on my phone with the account that is usually just logged in on the Switch.

My daughter has been having this issue for 2 years. She bought the switch to play this game. I don't understand how it's possible two of the largest companies on Earth cannot fix a bug that won't let people access the content they purchase.

@Marie Joyce Villegas: what you describe is exactly what I experienced (see comment), and I found the solution was to do the sign in from a different device. I used my laptop instead of my phone and it worked on the second attempt.

My nephew is also having this issue.  We are both new to Minecraft and just started playing it on the Switch.

He just got a subscription for an online realm so that we can play together, but we cannot even login–and therefore I cannot access the realm. How long is this going to happen? should get a refund at this rate.  For a game that's been around for so long and so popular it is, it's really disappointing at how glitchy it is.

In our case, he set up the realm, and initially we were able to play.

Then one day he accessed the game and it had signed him out of his Microsoft Account.  I showed him the place where he could log back in again, and it gave him the same error everyone else mentioned: "We tried to sign you in to your Microsoft Account, but something went wrong."

I had him to try signing into the Minecraft website and also to the xbox website to make sure his account was still active and there were no glitches with his account in either location.  He was able to sign into those accounts fine.  However, it still gives the error message when he tries to sign on through the Switch.

Please also note, that I purchased the game on the Switch, and when I sign into my Minecraft account, it thinks I haven't purchased the game at all–so I have no way to sign onto this game from another device without buying it a second time.

I bought game to play on my Realm. I can't sign in with Microsoft account, so basically game doesn't work for me and unfortunately Nintendo doesn't refund. I tried few devices (2 mobiles and 2 laptops) for ms remote connect link and it doesn't work.

My son is also having the same issue. It happens all the time and is pretty annoying. I can see this issue has been occurring for a long time now. Is there anyone who can comment on how long this should take until it's fixed? Thanks

Having the same issue.  Trying to play with my boyfriend but my switch will not let me sign into my account but signed into his account just fine. It fixed earlier today since I had this issue yesterday but it's back again.

My daughter has this problem - we not only have paid for the game but have paid realms as well, so it's quite frustrating. Please prio this bug. 🙂

Update:

So this worked for us -

1) Logged her out of her MS account on Minecraft on her ipad. Guessing this was the crucial step!

2) Changed her MS Account password. (Was mostly trying to get the Switch to log her out since clearing account data doesn't seem to work).

3) Clear login data on the Switch - it still tried to log her in automatically.

4) Force a log in on the switch X number of times until it finally popped up the remote connect box again.

5) Now it seems to have worked. Will see if it occurs again.

For those still hitting this issue, could you please include an up to date screenshot of the error message that you are seeing? The team working on this have mentioned that their may be more than one issue at play here, and we would like to be able to differentiate these and tackle them separately if possible, so any additional information would be appreciated.

I don't get an error message.  My issue is the box with the code and the link never pops up to allow for us to link our MS account to Minecraft on the Switch.

I have the same issue as E Cubed - no way to enter the code to reconnect the account and the switch just shows connecting.  I'm going to go check and make sure we're not signed on anywhere else after reading the comment by Anders above.

Similar issue here except there is no error message and it doesn't even allow me to sign in with my account. I get the codes to pop up, head to the remote connect site, input the current code and then sign in with the associated email. Get the page that says I am connected and everything is all good now so close it. Then close the codes on the game and instead of getting the loading bars that show a sign in attempt, it just sits there doing nothing. Tried clearing Sign in account data, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, deleted all my save data. Nothing, still the same thing. No error message and no sign in attempt. I also get 2 codes popped up on my screen for some reason. When I try to sign in, I get the save purchases to the Microsoft account window then after clicking either option I get a code. Then when I exit the code after doing the steps I mentioned, I get back to the Save purchases screen so exit that and then get back to the main menu or the profile page in settings which I head back to the main menu from and another code appears. Regardless of whether or not I enter this code as well, ignore this code or ignore the first code and enter only this code I cannot sign in and no sign in attempt is made on the systems part. It just sits there with the "Sign in with a Microsoft Account" option.

@Mega_Spud: as far as error messages, I think what's going on is that Minecraft gives a variety of reactions to the same issue. If you look back to my comment from December when I couldn't sign in for a couple of days, you'll see I experienced a variety of symptoms across multiple sign-in attempts. The same variety continues to be described by different users.

The fact that I got different messages/lack of messages to repeated sign-in attempts suggests to me that different threads/functions in Minecraft are detecting conflicting statuses. That goes right along with the fact that the "sign-in" and "clear sign in data" does nothing at all in some cases (tracked for playstation, but seems related: MCPE-96635, MCPE-98544).

What ultimately fixed it for me was accessing the aka.ms/remoteconnect from a different device than the one I had been trying to use. I do not know if that is because of browser caching short-circuiting the code entry on my phone, or because I had been using that MS account with the xbox live app on that phone. Other comments above have said using a new device to enter the code either did work, or did not work. Where it does not work it could be because the aka.ms/remoteconnect page is already cached on the alternate device, too.

I don’t get an error message. It just keeps asking me to sign into XBox Live and then wants me to put a code in to https://aka/remoteaccess- different code every time. It always says Success and that I can play on the Microsoft end, but once I go to login it gives me the website and a new code again. It’s been 3 days this time since I’ve been able to connect the account. Normally if I put the codes in over and over for a solid hour it’ll eventually connect. But this has been going on for me for 2 years. And I’ve also had no issues on other devices. Just the Switches we have. But Nintendo and a Microsoft both say it’s not on their end. 🤷‍♀️

Having the same issue. It is incredibly frustrating. I click Sign in with a Microsoft Account, and it does not connect for 40 minutes. It doesn't pull up the AK ms connect.

For me it takes a dozen attempts before it accepts the code given then seems to have an infinite background screen and no menu!  I’ve attached the picture

This issue has been going on for me on the Switch for at least a year for me, and it is a very poor experience. The "Signing into your Microsoft account" screen hangs for 5 minutes or more and never signs me in.

I just spent the last couple of hours trying to fix this to no avail talking with the folks on the official Minecraft Discord. Here are the things I have tried and checked while troubleshooting.

  1. Rebooting the Switch

  2. Changing from my router's network to a mobile hotspot. This sometimes seems to work, but it did not help tonight.

  3. Uninstall Minecraft and redownload

  4. Archived Minecraft and redownload

  5. Cleared the entire Minecraft cache

  6. Checked Switch storage to see if it was low. I had 12.2 gb free in system memory and 41.7 gb on the microsd card

  7. Checked for corrupted data. That came back as nothing wrong with the game.

I get error code "Creeper" over and over again. I cannot attempt the work around where you sign in as a different Switch user because this is not a primary Switch.

So, how do we get this sort of thing resolved? It appears that various iterations of this issue have been happening for people since 2018. I have seen people here saying that they run into a loop of talking with Mojang, Microsoft, and Nintendo support people. The Nintendo folks point to Mojang and Microsoft, and Microsoft and Mojang point to each other and Nintendo. I think whatever the fix is will be an intercompany effort.

Could there be an issue with my Microsoft account? If so, who would I send details about that for the appropriate people to check it out?

Here's another detail that I don't know if it's relevant or not. This user is on a iphone device as well. Could the the same user on Minecraft iPhone be interfering with the switch? My wife never uses the phone, so it's never playing at the same time. Also, this is a digital download rather than a physical cartridge. Current version is v1.17.10. Switch system version is 12.1.0.

My problem is finally resolved. My ISP's (AT&T) DNS has issues connecting to login.live. When I manually changed my Switch to point to Open DNS, all my problems resolved.

TranAran

Bug really reared its ugly head on 1.20.60.

Somehow managed to sign into Microsoft before Nintendo account (usually the other way around).

The message being continuously spammed:

"Server communication error has occured. Please try again later."

After HOURS of fiddling around with the game (including erasing my SIX YEAR OLD SAVE FILE (INCLUDING THE CLOUD SAVE)) I have found a POTENTIAL CAUSE of this bug, and a TEMPORARY SOLUTION that should fix the login issues until Mojang does something about this.

Basically, after playing around with the game and narrowing it down, this bug has something to do with the "Max Framerate (Experimental)" option in the video tab of the settings menu.

HOW TO FIX YOUR GAME IF YOU CAN NOT LOG IN TO NINTENDO'S SERVERS:

  1. Start Minecraft. Wait fifteen seconds for the game to attempt to log into Nintendo Network.

  2. Put your Nintendo Switch console into airplane mode by holding down the home button and toggling airplane mode.

  3. Open the settings menu. Navigate to the Video tab.

  4. Switch "Max Framerate (Experimental)" to the UNLIMITED option (all the way to the right)

  5. Back out to the main menu.

  6. Close the game.

  7. Restart the game. You may have to re-log into your Microsoft Account by going to aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  8. This SHOULD fix the problem. It did for me.
