Nintendo Switch fails to connect to Microsoft Account after restarting game

Workaround

Here are some things you can try if you get stuck in a loop with the aka.ms/remoteconnect login process.

  • Reboot your Switch (hold down the power/sleep button for a few seconds until a menu comes up, then select "Power Options", and then "Restart".

  • Power cycle your internet router (unplug its power cord, wait a minute, then plug it in again).

  • Reboot the device that you are using to access aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  • Clear the browser cache on the device that you are using to access aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  • Clear the DNS cache on the device that you are using to acces access aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  • Use a different device to access aka.ms/remoteconnect.

Thanks for your patience while we try and get this issue resolved. Let's try and keep the ticket narrowed down to a single issue where possible. Please add a vote to this ticket if you are seeing an error message after you attempt to sign in.

It would be helpful if you could also send a message to Mojang Support with your Gamertag and a screenshot of your profile screen, by going to Minecraft>Settings>Profile, scroll to the bottom and take a screenshot of the IDs shown there. (Please do not share those here at the bug tracker.)

If you are seeing the related issue where you have to log in with your account each time you restart, please see MCPE-95651.

Original Description:
After installing the game for the first time and going through he process of linking the Switch to my Microsoft Account. Minecraft signs in fine and cross play can be done.

When I exit the game and start the game up it will not sign into my Microsoft account.

I have tried turning the console off which didn't work. I deleted the software and re-installed and it still didn't connect. I then deleted the software and save data, re-installed from fresh, set up the link from Switch to Microsoft account and all works fine until I exit the game and the process repeats again.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated

you have to wait a little bit after you sign in then it will work

Patrick Grant-Weitz

What do you mean? like when do you wait? after it gets rid of the connecting screen?

please tell me in detail

I don't think Andrew understood your problem. Please disregard that comment.

Are you getting some kind of error message after trying to sign in, or does it just spin forever without responding?

Travis Bunkers

You click the button, it spins for a couple of seconds, then just disappears like nothing happens. If you look at the video Patrick posted in his first comment, you will see it for your own eyes, which would be easier then hearing a description.

My problem is finally resolved. My ISP's (AT&T) DNS has issues connecting to login.live. When I manually changed my Switch to point to Open DNS, all my problems resolved.

Bug really reared its ugly head on 1.20.60.

Somehow managed to sign into Microsoft before Nintendo account (usually the other way around).

The message being continuously spammed:

"Server communication error has occured. Please try again later."

After HOURS of fiddling around with the game (including erasing my SIX YEAR OLD SAVE FILE (INCLUDING THE CLOUD SAVE)) I have found a POTENTIAL CAUSE of this bug, and a TEMPORARY SOLUTION that should fix the login issues until Mojang does something about this.

Basically, after playing around with the game and narrowing it down, this bug has something to do with the "Max Framerate (Experimental)" option in the video tab of the settings menu.

HOW TO FIX YOUR GAME IF YOU CAN NOT LOG IN TO NINTENDO'S SERVERS:

  1. Start Minecraft. Wait fifteen seconds for the game to attempt to log into Nintendo Network.

  2. Put your Nintendo Switch console into airplane mode by holding down the home button and toggling airplane mode.

  3. Open the settings menu. Navigate to the Video tab.

  4. Switch "Max Framerate (Experimental)" to the UNLIMITED option (all the way to the right)

  5. Back out to the main menu.

  6. Close the game.

  7. Restart the game. You may have to re-log into your Microsoft Account by going to aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  8. This SHOULD fix the problem. It did for me.

Hi, could get ownership of this ticket because i have like this problem, where will be a delay to log in with microsoft account.

We are closing this report as it has become too broad to track. If you are receiving an error message when attempting to sign in, the error message should now also include an error code. Search on the bug tracker for that error code and see if anyone else has already reported it. If you cannot find a report, create a new report and try to include as much information as possible.
