Just checked, and the software is up to date and the same issue is happening. Tried to launch split-screen, can select the 2nd player’s account and it starts loading then the 2nd screen closes down and we’re back to single player mode.
Having the same issue here. Hosting a realm for my nephews, and they're unable to play split screen. Has only been happening this week since the update.
