Occurring On: Windows 10, Xbox One, iOS, Android
Bug: Slight freezing/lag/delay when opening inventory or whilst crafting. Can also happen while equipping armor or taking it off in the inventory. The likely cause seems to be having too much information for the inventory to manage, and not enough optimization. Likely related to MCPE-32150
Steps to Reproduce: Potentialy can be recreated by having items with too many enchants within your inventory. I’ve personally noticed it at it’s worst while wearing armor, each with multiple enchants, and tools, also with multiple enchants. Having shulker boxes with items in it seems to also cause the problem, with more items = more delay. It mostly seems that the inventory has trouble managing excess amounts of information.
I hope i’ve provided enough information. If you have questions for me, please reply below, and i’ll try to help as best I can.
Edit: I’ve observed that this also happens with written books and book and quills that have multiple written pages.
New Info: In the most recent beta, 1.11.0.4, this also affects villager trading now. Whenever you open the trading interface, the game stutters, along with completing a trade.

This has gotten worst in 1.11 beta. We where having this lag spike/freeze when opening in inventory or crafting table in a new world without any enchanted armor or tools.
Mojang please fix this! Its annoying when you need to craft a lot of items and it takes ages to craft it all!
I am seeing the same behavior in version 1.9 on Xbox One. Playing two player split screen. When either player opens inventory, game lags for both players.
Moving items from inventory to the quick bar, or vice versa, the game also lags.
We also noticed that if one of us is carrying a Shulker box, the issue is even worse. Both players are wearing a full set of enchanter armor and carrying multiple enchanted items as well. If we open a chest full of non-enchanted things, the lag does not occur. This behavior matches the original posters notes on how to recreate the issue.
From my experience it seems that shulker boxes affect this severely on lower end devices, even if they are empty
Also having out the crafting recipies on the side seems to be a big contributor to lag on Classic UI. My inventory has crazy lag spikes when I have shulker boxes and some enchanted items but as soon as I turn off the crafting recipes on the side it runs almost as smooth as butter. This is also apparent when moving items to/from a chest or shulker box, there is no lag maybe because there is no crafting recipe menu.
Definitely there on xbox. Happens with most things when playing split screen while crafting. If you have more than a couple shulker boxes that have items in themthe lag feels like it increases exponentially.
Another thing I observed with the crafting recipes: If you first switch to a category tab with less craftable options on the left AND THEN turn off crafting recipes, the lag becomes even more reduced.
I'm now having this issue after I updated my game to 1.10.0 on Windows 10. Every time I open my inventory or a crafting table, I get a huge lag spike. Removing enchanted items from my inventory does help it a little bit but it still lags. I also get a huge lag spike when I equip something in my off-hand slot.
Edit: After playing more, I've found more issues. Splitting items in the crafting table or inventory lower the framerate severely and shift-clicking items also lower the framerate. I had the dragging lag before but now it's even worse. Even placing the items individually in the crafting table creates lag spikes. When dropping an item with the inventory open, the game lag spikes and picking up items while also in the inventory causes a lag spike. This bug can be reproduced with any item, it isn't just enchantments. This issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible because it's really making it hard to play the game.
I have the same issue, but just after updating to 1.10.0 aswell.
It only affects opening the inventory and the crafting bench however, as furnances and anvils are opening smoothly and without lag spikes.
I have the same issue.
It only occurs when opening the inventory or a crafting table at any time. When they are opened the game stops for a second. It gets annoying each and every time.
Bedrock 1.10.0
PC Windows 10.
Same issue on realms. Lag spike even when opening empty inventory. We have iOS PE, Xbox, and Windows 10 bedrock players.
I've experienced this lag spike for a while now with shulker boxes that have items in them (along with slight lag when selecting anything in the inventory and moving it, if a shulker with items in it is in the inventory), but this new lag spike is definitely more pronounced and occurs with or without a shulker box (longer with a shulker in inventory), so hoping they can kill two lags with one stone with this fix.
This was also found in the beta version. Should've of been fixed before releasing it. As It's highly annoying and death defying while needing to enter your inventory. Trust me, nearly got exploded by a creeper a few times. With valuable items in a survival world (without cheats enabled).
Xbox One player here... It's a good thing I choose to play on peaceful most of the time, or the lag when opening my inventory would have gotten me killed so many times. It's just as bad when accessing a crafting table. Chests open promptly like the should, but the lag when opening my inventory or trying to use a crafting table is massive.
Lag reduces when high powered tools are removed. I noticed that even with nothing except a pick, shovel and axe, I was still having issues. Once I took them out it was fine.
That's happened to me i have over 300.6mb but it's annoying laging i when using opening etc anything is messed up it's now unplayable.
This completely freezes and eventually crashes my game on ios. Specially when enchanted books are in inventory. Only takes one or two items to cause the crash.
Also experiencing the same issue with Xbox One, as well. Happens when opening the inventory, and crafting-- either individual items or stack of items. We generally play split-screen co-op, and it happens when either player performs the actions. On some occasion, either one of us will be turned around 180 degrees after the second or two of lag. I did notice that the issue with opaque water instead of transparent water for the second player has been fixed with the newest update, though, which is really nice!
Affecting both Win10 and Xbox 1 versions here. The lag is quite unbearable actually when trying to move items within inventory or switch to other items. Crafting menu is the same ...very laggy. In survival this is allowing mobs to get the jump on you when you are in the lagged out inventory or crafting. Creepers have destroyed recent work as a result of being unable to get out of the crafting or inventory fast enough to take them out.
I can confirm that after testing the issue gets worse the more enchanted items you have in your inventory. As a test i had a full inventory of non-enchanted items and the inventory opened as expected. I removed the items and started added enchanted items, the more i add the slower the inventory opening was. This testing was carried out on an Xbox One running 1.10
I find it funny that I reported this back in the 1.10 beta awhile back, yet it still makes it into the full release, and now everyone is angry. Hopefully they’re working on a fix
The same thing is happening. The more items I have the worse. If I have a few full skulkers it is very bad. However when opening the shukers there was no lag at all. I had a full inventory of full shukers and when trying to-open my inventory it took around 10 seconds, but I could open a placed shukers no problem. It seems to only effect the inventory screen and some others not asbad.
The same thing is happening in the current Android release 20 Mar 2019.
It took 2 minutes to open my inventory with a full inventory containing 20 shulker boxes full of cobblestone.
I'm having the same issue when I open my inventory or try crafting the lag is unbearable it makes it hard to enjoy playing Minecraft
I can confirm for Win 10 version if no one has already.
@Ghost That is interesting. Perhaps it was happening but it was unnoticeable for others. I literally am just noticing it now and I have been playing for on 1.11 already for a few days.
Same here. Since the new update on Xbox One we now have terrible lag when opening the inventory screen. Really affecting the gameplay. Even lags the second player too when playing in split screen.
There were no issues before the update.
It would be nice of mojang to release a hotfix for this soon rather than waiting for 1.11. This bug makes the game extremely unplayable, especially on mobile, and handling more than 2 shulker boxes at a time will SERIOUSLY lag when opening your inventory. I'm talking about a good 8 second lag spike. On a sidenote, dropping items from within the inventory screen also has gotten much laggier and consequentially slower
I can confirm this bug as well. I tend to spend a lot of time writing the history of my Realm with book and quils and now I can’t carry more than one without the game freezing very badly when I open up my menu....also trying to craft a lot of items (stacks) at once causes the same issue
Can we get a moderator update this bug report to include other platforms besides XBox One? I see references to Windows 10 and others in the comments above, and I can confirm it is also an issue on iOS devices (1.10.0).
Results of my testing on a new local (non-Realm) world in survival mode:
Inventory is completely empty, wearing no armor :: the inventory UI opens in about 0.6 seconds.
Inventory has ONE empty white shulker box, wearing no armor :: UI opens in 1.2 seconds
Inventory has ONE full white shulker box (full of cobblestone), wearing no armor :: UI opens in 5.4 seconds
^ Yeah but those numbers are similar with just items, doesn't require shulker box lag; but shulker box lag has been a problem for years now! It's amazing how slow they move fixing their game that has unplayable issues. Literally ALL of my friends left Minecraft because of the continuous problems. I don't know why Mojang is sitting on their a** and whoever programs is programming Bedrock Edition needs to get a new job.
^Agreed. Pretty disappointing we haven't heard a peep about this from Mojang. Especially when we are talking about a paid service (realms) that is unplayable. Really frustrating.
Mega_Spud said on Twitter that they're working on getting a fix as soon as possible.
Even if they are fixing it, it’s dissapointing that they didn’t fix it in the beta when I reported it. Now, due to that, it’s made its way into the stable version of Minecraft (1.10). Without a hotfix for stable version players, it might stay there until stable versions reach the beta it gets fixed in. Really a poor way of doing things in my opinion
The lag is worse when you have a full shocker box in your inventory upon opening your inventory.
You can't even have a full shocker box in your inventory with out having the game freeze for 3 - 5 seconds max upon opening your inventory.
(1.10) Tested informally with a single shulker box in my inventory that had 26 occupied slots and one open slot. Placing it on the ground so that I have no shulker in my inventory was fine. As soon as I put the box in my inventory the lag kicked in when opening my inventory.
With or without a shulker in my inventory, opening a chest was lag-free.
I don't see this behavior with an Ender Chest. Ender Chest(s) seems to have no effect on Inventory lag.
Edit: Michael Brearley, renaming the Shulker Box does not seem to have an appreciable effect on the lag.
Edit2: I noticed Michael has a texture pack enabled. I disabled the official beta Texture Update Pack and re-tested. Observed same behavior. It might have been slightly improved in general but there is a clear difference between opening the inventory without a shulker box and opening the inventory with a shulker box.
Some evidence in the wild...
Can confirm that bug 100% on android and Windows 10, it gets worse the more items you have especially enchanted ones.
This bug is actually made worse when Shulker Boxes are in your inventory. Regardless of Platform.
I can also say that this bug exists on the Switch version as well. More items in your inventory = more laggy
The more items I have the worse the lag is. If I have Schulker boxes full of items it crashes the game. I am playing on Xbox one
I am having similar experience on XB1X. Opening inventory/craft is like pause and play movie effect, even not much being stored in inventory; player and chest.
I have the same issue. It still happens even when the personal inventory is empty..To replicate it when it is worse have a full inventory with tools an weapons that are enchancted.
Issue affected me immediately after update. No change between updates in armour or inventory, but suddenly there was a significant lag each time I tapped to craft wood planks from logs. Most noticeable when crafting.
(Android, v1.10.0)
Yes. In 1.11.0.8, opening the inventory or crafting something isn't as laggy anymore, at least for me.
Yes. It has gotten much better in the 1.11.0.8 Beta. Still disappointing that it’s in the stable release though
I have seen it too and it seems the more items, shulkers with items, armor/tools that are enchanted, the laggier it gets. I am on bedrock on Xbox One.
Confirmed that the lag when using the inventory has decreased, but not totally gone just yet.
I am on 1.10 with iOS. I do not see the lag associated with shulker boxes or enchanted items that I have seen Win10 users exhibit on youtube (no worse than 1.9 for me, at least). I do have bad lag when opening crafting tables or personal inventory with the hand crafting gui. Additional to the lag when opening the crafting guis, there is also lag when crafting. The lag is bad with my iPad Pro, but with my iPad Air it is really unplayable.
this has been a persistent issue for bedrock for a few versions now... at this point there is insane lag spike when playing on 1.10 and on Realms for me. Sometimes have to wait like 30secs to open. I hope this is a top priority issue for Mojang. (Yay "Bug"rock!)
I now have 5 seconds of lag opening inventory. World is synced xbox1 playing on xbox1. Current 1.10 release. Game is no longer worth playing.
Can confirm the lag is terrible. 4 seconds after hitting "E" on my keyboard, my inventory finally opens. i7-6700K, 16GB RAM NVIDIA GTX 1060. I am not going to even comment on how bad it is on Nintendo Switch. Happens when opening inventory and crafting menu along with moving enchanted armor on or off.
Yeah definitely noticing this on any platform playing on a realm. I really hope this is fixed soon, it’s hard to play!
I believe that the main reason is the recipe book, because when opening chests, ahulker boxes, or any container, no lag or delay happens, because the recipe book doesn't load.
Closing the recipe book does NOT solve the problem, because it loads anyway, but changing the category and then closing the recipe book can help.
Can confirm the issue has been resolved in the latest update. Both Win 10 and Switch are back to normal. Thank you devs!
Yes, the performance was greatly improved, however the lag is still noticable on low end devices such as my phone.
On 1.11.1 with my slow Android device, player inventory lag seems to be greatly reduced now, however chests seem to have much more lag than before when they contain many shulker boxes full of items.
Switch inv lag is unbearable. It even lags if you haven’t even opened a menu. Yes, 30 secs of lag can happen anywhere, anytime. Even online.
Still affects 1.11, 1.11.1 and 1.11.2, but you need a significant amount of shulkers, full of items for it to happen. Overall, great fix, just needed a bit more testing🙂
For me the issue is worse with shulker boxes full of stacks rather than enchanted items when interacting with a chest. e.g. Chest full of shulker boxes of Sandstone is worse than chest full of shulker boxes of enchanted books.
On my realm server, I was organizing my storage using shulker boxes within chests, and the lag caused one entire shulker box of stuff to disappear while transferring it from my inventory to the chest (relogging didn't help). Another shulker box disappeared but then reappeared like 5 seconds later in the chest. One time, opening the laggy chest showed all the old content previously in there before for a split second and then it switched back to the shulker boxes. I imagine these issues also carry over to ender chests and barrels too.
Edit: my missing shulker box came back after a day. Maybe I missed it earlier but I'm positive I scanned through everything when it was gone.
I am still having the same issue, but worse in v1.11.4
Bug- When I open my inventory, a chest, enderhcest, or anything that can hold shulkers, I receive a massive lag spike for 8 seconds or more of delay between interactions (the entire game freezes and locks up). It also does not register how long I have tapped the screen, so it thinks I'm trying to split items even when I just tap for a second. This used to only happen in my inventory and run fine in containers (such as chests), but now it is everywhere. The lag also gets gradually worse when more items are in the shulker Box.

I turned on experimental game play, and on that it did improve a bit, but nowhere near what it used to be. Before when using skulkers it would be flawless and smooth when it was in a container, but not while in the inventory. So before it seemed that the way shulkers were processed while being interacted with while in a chest was different than the inventory (inventory being the one with more lag). With the new update, and in experimental, the way shulkers are processed seem to be the way it was in the inventory (slow and unusable). So there is a way to make it seamless, it has been before, but as of now my survival world is on halt because my primary method of storage is the shulker box. Which as of now is unusable.

Can confirm what Jackson hopper just said.
The low end devices are suffering this issue more than any others.
As I had been stressing ( i just really don't want this point to get missed), that even on a lower end device, THERE IS a way for it to work seamlessly. It worked pre- v1.11.4 when opening chests and enderchests, shulkers caused NO lag. Only when opening the inventory tab .(My guess is it is the way the items are processed the inventory by the game). Just look into it before 1.11.4 was released.
If there is any confusion, I would be more than happy to articulate further on any point.
Otherwise, Thank You for going through this and spending your time listening to us.
@[Minecraft] Mega_Spud (Jay Wells): This is still an issue in 1.12. I don't get any more lag spikes, but the frame rate drops a lot when I open the inventory. It is worse when the recipe book is open. It is also worse when the screen animations are enabled. Whenever I have a lot of items in the inventory, the opening animation of the inventory is very choppy. With the screen animations off, it is mostly fine, but I don't want to play with no screen animations.
The recipe book and screen animations need optimization improvements.
I have noticed that the screen animations always look laggy even if your inventory is empty. And it's not just the inventory, it seems that every screen animation except the one for the pause screen has a low frame rate.
On 1.13.1 Bedrock on Android 8.1 LG Q6, confirm that crafting is more laggy when the full search recipe tab of the crafting screen is open. Crafting without that tab of the recipe book is open is MUCH faster. So definitely the lag is related to how that list of recipes is populated and updated based on the player's available crafting ingredients. If the search function is used and only returns a few valid recipes, the crafting is also MUCH faster.
I have this same problem on nintendo switch. It will freeze for a second when selecting a villager or opening a crafting table then only freeze for like 0.2 seconds every next time.
On 1.16.0.58 this bug occures whenever an item sprite loads, even in the hotbar
So just having items in your hotbar causes a 20 FPS drop rendering the game unplayable on some mobile devices
This bug needs more attention
Is this problem related to large portion of world loading very slowly while flying on latest beta...??
This bug was happening for me tonight on 1.14.60 of the Windows 10 client.
Based on the comments above, I was able to figure out that it was because I had wheat on my hot bar. Taking it off my hot bar reduce lag while looking around, and removing it from inventory (putting it in a chest) reduced inventory & crafting lag.
WAIT! It is in 1.16.0! In multiplayer, I have to open the inventory/chest/crafting like 6 times before it opens sometimes. Then it opens like 5 seconds after I want it to and instantly closes on iOS.
I seem unable to move in-game due to the incredible lag.
My PC/Hardware specs below:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lpwt0h5e44bIM9AgI5rDc2bYKv-H9H388Xf9SUTjQ3M/edit?usp=sharing
This is still happening on 1.16.201 on Xbox One. It seems to be caused by a bad optimization of the game for the hardware because this it is not present on the Xbox Series X that has a better CPU and GPU.
seems to still happen on BDS but not on singleplayer steps to reproduce are the same but on a BDS server
I've been experiencing pretty intense lag since 1.19.31 when using any Minecraft UI elements as in the settings menu chat and crafting an inventory interfaces Etc I don't know if it's related to this bug however it does fit to the description of it
I'm using keyboard and mouse on Xbox One on 1.19.60 currently
I've noticed this too. I have enchanted armor on, enchanted tools in inventory. Turning stone into stone bricks took a very long time, I was getting between 7-9 fps
