Me and my friend used to play without wifi by turning wifi hotspot on. One would be the host and the other would connect to the wifi, lets call him the joiner. This was on 1.8.0
It never needed wifi to do this, i did this since MCPE 0.9.0 (before bedrock)
Since the 1.9.0 update, this happens:
The host enters the world, and the world doesn't show up on the joiner screen.
If the joiner enters a world, it appears on host screen, but if the host try joining it says: You need wifi to play with friends.
This never happened before, just after the 1.9.0 update this started happening, and i never needed actual internet (3G/4G) on the host to play, just the wifi without internet connection would work
I just bought this version of the game so i could play that way, i hope its getting a fix soon.
