If you are trying to connect to a user made bedrock server, you cannot connect to it on nintendo switch
This is because of nintendo's restrictions, not minecraft

I have found this issue as well. I understand that the Bedrock server uses a different protocol to connect (TCP for Java, UDP for Bedrock), but I am unaware of what protocols Nintendo allows for the Switch. Although, I have also read that Nintendo has disabled the ability to connect to custom servers as a security measure (so only the Minecraft approved servers are allowed).
I can connect to my custom server (running on hardware in my house) through the Windows 10 version of the game (v1.12.1). However, I cannot connect to any custom server on the Nintendo Switch. There's not even a place to add a server or type in server information. Also, the server shows up in the Windows 10 version under the "Friends" tab as a "LAN Games". It does not show up on the Nintendo Switch in the same area.
Is this a limitation Nintendo has placed on the Switch version (which is supposed to just be Bedrock)? Or, is this a limitation of the Switch hardware?

What kind of server are you trying to join?
