Same has happened for me in 1.10, tried changing the command a few times but won't work

The valid particle name may have changed. Look up "all particles for minecraft bedrock" and hope you get lucky...

Edit: all particle names must start with minecraft: or else it won't work...

I know the full command and I did not write it down. Also the command block would give me a message if the command would be wrong, wouldn't it?

Yes and No, because when you insert the particle's name, it won't recognize that as a syntax error.

Edit: the only valid name related to smoke is minecraft:example_smoke_puff.
