Creative inventory preference is lost when opening inventory in survival mode

The bug

In creative mode, you have three options for how your inventory screen appears:

If you set your preference to the first tab, then switch to survival mode and open your inventory, your preference is overridden to the second tab. Returning to creative mode will not restore it, it must be done manually.

How to reproduce

1. Open your inventory in creative mode and select the open book.

2. Close and reopen your inventory (it's the same).

3. Switch to survival mode.

4. Switch back to creative and open your inventory (still the same).

5. Switch back to survival mode and open your inventory.

6. Switch back to creative mode and open your inventory one final time.
   → ❌  The middle mode is active.
