A world my kids and I have been playing on for weeks, lots of buildings all over the place, small nether hub and lots of other work. After the 1.12.0 update I would see the saving icon in the corner stay for long periods of time but didn't think much about it. I went to the nether, built a nether portal, went into the overworld to build, then went through the nether portal again and found myself in solid netherrack since building the portal never saved. Then I built it again and went into the overworld and found none of my building had been saved either. If I save and quit after this behavior starts it will go through the save messages until it gets the the one about "Don't turn your Switch off." then stops on that screen forever. When I force it to quit and restart Minecraft all the most recent changes are lost and it loads back to a savepoint some time earlier. It feels like my client has become de-synced with a server and none of my writes to the server are saved so every time I go to a new area I read the server data without my changes, but this is all locally on my Switch.
The closest thing to a work around that I've found is if I stay in 'safe' chunks that have been loaded for a long time and do a "Save and Quit" every few minutes. If I travel too quickly I get de-synced and saving is broken. If I go too long without a "Save and Quit" I get de-synced and saving is broken. Sometimes I can get into or out of the nether safely, but most of the time that will cause de-synching and saving is broken. Sometimes I will get the Switch system message that the program has closed unexpectedly (which is frustrating) but most of the time it will allow me to merrily build away while it blithely pretends everything is ok and not save anything (which I find even more frustrating).

I encountered the same issue. I play on the Nintendo Switch locally (not using a realm).
Explored a natural cave 20 chunks away from the spawn point. I ended up digging a straight line from a Skeleton Spawner within the cave back to the main hub of my base. I started working backwards placing Railroad Tracks and suddenly the straight line cave stopped a few hundred blocks short of the co-ordinates I initially started digging at.
I went back to the surface and back to the cave entrance and noticed that all the torches I had placed were gone and mobs had respawned in the exact same spot I had previously noticed them. I also noted that ores (iron and coal) had been replaced in the walls.
I then decided to "quit and save" in hopes that there was some weird issue accessing the save data. After a few minutes of seeing the "Savings, do not turn off your console" message the game crashed with the error "an unexpected issue has occurred." After returning to the game I was back to the start point where I was 3 hours prior.
What is interesting about it was that the entire session was not spent exploring the cave. I noticed in the minecraft forum post linked above a user talks about "safe" chunks close to his spawn point. I spent close to 1.5 hours within 2 chunks of my spawn and nothing from that was autosaved. The entire session seems to have been bugged since the very start.
I have also noticed that this happens randomly afterwards. I would join the world, take 10 steps, and then quit the game and save. Sometimes I was able to save properly and I would reload in the expected location, but sometimes the game would crash while saving and I would return the prior position.
Playing on a realm on mobile, played with a friend who was on switch. We respawned the dragon to get my friend an elytra (we have a loot chest when the dragon dies) but during the fight we would die and come back to the end to find some crystals respawned.
We managed to survive getting the crystals blown up and killed the dragon, but died in the process.
Returned to the end to find the loot chest with elytra inside and the ender dragon including all the crystals had respawned.
Killed the dragon again and the portal openned, and the loot chest respawned.
It seemed like she was dead for sure this time so we returned home through the portal and did some work on the village near spawn
When I logged back in this morning the work I had done on the village wasnt saved and the dragon is back in the end 😞
Same thing is happening to our realm since 1.13.0 on Bedrock. Realm was created on Nintendo Switch but used on multi platform. Save and quit does not save, progress is lost 75% of the time.
same here , me and my friends are building and expanding our ''cities'' a lot lately. Since the new update we have issues where we randomly spawn when going in a nether portal. or the server disconnects and we are back where we were an hour ago or so.
We pay for the realm so I guess this should be fixed right ? what's the point of spending all our time if we have to go back every time again.
It does not only happen when I play. it happens when my friends play too.
Please help us out cause i'm close to ragequitting.
We play on minecraft for xbox one , windows 10 & PE.
Game is not saving on my switch also, I went to save & quit, closed the software on the console. When I got back on the realm I spawned 15 to 30 minutes earlier than when I logged off. Losing several items I had farmed then cooked. Please fix this issue.
