Forewarning, I am playing with experimental features enabled.
As swimming in water was reworked, there was a massive oversight. You can't swim in lava the same way in which you can water - ie sprinting to swim. This was probably because nobody figured anyone would want to swim in lava, but I can actually think of a couple uses for this.
