Summary
If you equip elytra, start swimming and press or hold (temporarily) the jump button, your character will sometimes be unable to swim through certain gaps such as 1x1 gaps or 2x2 gaps.
For some reason, elytra is required for this bug even though it does not activate. I tried multiple times to do this without it and I could never get it to happen.
It affects both Creative and Survival modes, but Survival may be better to use as you won't accidentally fly.
Steps to Reproduce:
Build a 1x1 or 2x2 gap underwater.
Equip elytra.
Start swimming and press the jump button while heading towards the gap. You may have to do this step more than once.
Observed Results:
At some point, your character will be unable to swim through that gap and you will have to stop swimming and start again to swim through the gap.
Expected Results:
Your character is always able to swim through the gap.

In 1.13.0, this has changed slightly. It is now possible to swim through 2x2 gaps if you are at the bottom.

Still affects 1.14

This issue relates to MCPE-55862 and MCPE-55864

also affects 1.14.1 and 1.14.20

This happens because you have the small hitbox while swimming and you also get the small hitbox while gliding, which is intended behavior. But when you press jump button while swimming while wearing an elytra it looks like you glide for a short time but immediately stop gliding because you are in water. And because you stop gliding you get the 1.8 block hitbox and the bug is that the game doesn't check if you do something different that is supposed to make you get the small hitbox the game just increases you hitbox always when you stop doing something that makes you get the small hitbox. This is also the reason why MCPE-55862 and MCPE-55864 are an issue.
To fix these bugs the game should test if you do something that makes you get the smaller hitbox every time the players hitbox gets updated and the hitbox should only be increased if are not swimming with the swimming animation or gliding have the small hitbox because you used riptide.
I hope that these bugs get fixed soon.

Confirmed for 1.14.60.

Confirmed for 1.16

Affects 1.16.100.55 Beta

The reproduction methods of this issue is being blocked by MCPE-98271 in the betas, as it is impossible to enter 1x1 areas with an elytra or swimming outright.
If you are in a non-beta version of the game, you don't have to worry about the other ticket. If you are in a beta, MCPE-98271 is affecting you.
