Weird shovel hoe grass thing?

When I was trying to mine out a hill, I accidentally tapped te screen with my shovel. It turned into a strange dirt texture. I tried to mine it and it was like mining with my first. I then repeated the process and tried to mine it with my pickaxe with the same result. The texture also wasa bit shorter, like if I had hoed the land and it hadn't despawned yet. It happens when I try to "hoe" the land with my shovel.
