REALMS-11244

"Internal Exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset" Realm world file too large to create automated backup.

So, me and my friends have a Java Realm that we have used since aug 2021. Ever since the 1,19.3 update we have noticed a reoccurring bug that has completely altered the way that we play. Every 20-30 minutes the realm will lag for a split second and then all connected users will be booted from the server with the following message(s): "Internal Exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset", "Connection reset".

When reconnecting to the realm, we find that we have rolled back to the last known backup (Usually the last time we disconnected) causing us to lose a LOT of in-game progress. On a few occasions the rollback took us back an entire day, thus making most of us demotivated to even play again.

After all of us searched online for a fix to this issue, even reaching out to support that offered us little help we found that none of the guides or other bug reports for similar issues could give us any resolution. With the "Connection Reset" message still persisting each time we get rolled back.

The only way we have been able to continue playing somewhat normally, is to disconnect and close minecraft after every 25 minutes somebody is connected to the realm. Then waiting at least 10 minutes before attempting to reconnect. This way we force the realm to make a backup before it attempts to do it automatically, and failing. It is not always successful however, with it not creating a backup on its own at all and having to suffer another huge chunk of progress lost to nothing..

My friend (The realm owner), suspects that the cause of this bug is simply due to the sheer size of the World file. We have moved several thousands of blocks away from spawn, with various different builds spaced even further away from eachother. So it's no doubt that we have a big world, but again following the steps given to us by Mojang and reports made by other users to try and fix this issue, has failed.

We really hope that there is a fix coming for this in a future update, as loading any new chunks before this is resolved would make the file size bigger and risk our realm becoming even more unstable. With so much progress already made on the realm, having to suffer these resets is devastating.

Would really like to see this opened 🙂 really enjoy the realm I've been on and would prefer to not have to start over
