Whenever I get on my realms server, I get kicked, especially if I go to the nether or use nether items.

Yeah seriously, there should be some sort of extension on realm subscriptions too.

It's barely been an hour and a half since 1.16 came out, I don't think an extension is really neccessary?

This is an issue for me as well. In our family there are 4 of us playing on a Realm. The world is about 250MB and we've been playing for over a year I'd say. This is a new issue. I've checked chunks and it's not a broken chunk. In addition the world works fine if downloaded and played on just my laptop. The problem seems to have to do with the connection to the Realm itself.

I’ve had this issue a few times on realms - a friend that was logged onto the realm at the same time as me also experienced the same thing. We got the “Disconnected from Server” screen, both logged back on and found the last 30 mins of progress hadn’t saved. Same thing happened again another 30 or so minutes later. I played by myself today and had the same thing happen twice. We’re losing progress!

This started for me yesterday on Jan 31,2021 and I can”t even get 10 mins before it crashes and rolls back to a previous backup even when I save an quit. It occasionally will save about 30 sec. of work but will then roll back to before that.

I just created a new realms world for my friends and I to play on, and not 5 minutes into playing, there were only 3 of us online at the time, it gave all off us the "timed out" message. We tried to get back on for a couple hours and it stayed down, but when we all relogged, it put the server back into default state as if it had just rolled back. This is unacceptable as this is a thing that we are paying for and it doesn't work. Only luck I had was turning off the mob spawning gamerule, and it worked for about 30 minutes until someone came across a spawner, which proceeded to give the timed out message and rollback the realm. Something to do with the new rendering system and the mobs being loaded is the best idea I have of why this problem is occurring. It happened a few times in 1.16, but in 1.17 it is way worse.

This is happening for my realm in 1.17. Backing up the world to the latest option in World Backups doesn't prevent it from losing 30 minutes of progress.

Crashes on my realm happens when you explore the overworld and load new chunks. Exploring in the end or nether did not crash the server. Please fix this asap as we cant explore anything without being paranoid for loss progress for the past 1-2 weeks. Thank you.

Same, at least once a day. Probably Nether increment the probability of a crash. But it also happens only with exploration. Impossible to continue a realm in these conditions. Please fix this problem.

Same. This happens the entire time. No matter what the game crashes. The realm is unusable.

Same, happened twice today. We have never encountered this bug in the ~3 years that our Realm has been running for, and this has become a major issue for us since 1.17

The Realm my friends and I have been playing on has crashed repeatedly, especially in the earlier days of the realm. (We had just started this realm at the commencement of the lockdown around 1 week ago). It had crashed around 3 times and about 30 minutes of progress was lost each time after the realm timed out for about 5 minutes. Although this was frustrating, the server members did not mind too much. A report was sent to Minecraft support, which replied with a standard, "Please Open a bug report." However, as the incident had not occurred since the making of this report, we opted to leave the issue be.
However, what made this realm unplayable was what occurred today.
Just 20 minutes ago, the realm had just crashed and caused FOUR DAYS worth of progress to be lost. Furthermore, the automatic backups, have been deleted till that point. There has been a lot of frustration stemming from this issue, and members have opted to stop playing until there can be reasonable assurance that this issue will not prevail. For some context, I had taken a screenshot of the 'world backup' section of the realm configuration settings.
We have had decent experiences in the past with Minecraft realms as an easy way to host an SMP server, albeit being laggy. However, the occurrence of these incidents within the span of a week has forced me to cancel my subscription to this service.
We all hope that this matter can be looked into and resolved promptly, especially since this is a game-breaking issue that affects customers who are paying for this service on an ongoing basis. Thank you for considering this bug report.

This has been a major issue for us too. Several times, our Realm has been reverted back 30 minutes to several hours in 1.17. I have liked using Realms for the past few years (other than frequently being down in the past), but this is completely game breaking and we have lost so much progress.

This has started happening on my realm as well. Losing 30 minutes to an hour of progress. We don't get to play often, only a couple hours a day meaning this makes it almost pointless to play.
We noticed the Realm crashes when exploring and loading loads of new chunks. This ruins the excitement of exploring the unknown, as you'll have to explore the same area again but also ruins what other players were doing.

I play bedrock and this just started happening to my realm after the newest "hotfix"
everyone online gets kicked and its rolled back to the most recent save,
Thanks for your patience while we continue to look into this.
Does this only happen in certain worlds uploaded to your Java Realm, or does is affect new worlds, too?

I've used realms for several months in the past. Despite being laggy sometimes, it was ok as the price is affordable. However, since I created the new world on 28th June (no seed) me and my friends has been experiencing repeated progress loss. It can happen any time, daytime or nighttime irl. We were just hanging out in our base building and farming and suddenly timed out error and the progress was not saved. Most of it will be while there is only one player online. For the past 2 weeks it happened more than 3 times and each time several hours of gameplay were lost. I really hope that this'll get fixed.

Happens on my realm too. I play on PS4.
On the worst day this happend 3 Times!
Last day that happened was yesterday.

This has just happened to myself on my own realm, lost about 30-40mins of progress. Never happened before prior to this that I know about.

Same thing happened to me, more than just once. Even before the 1.17 update this has always occurred, not sure what causes it but its very annoying.

This is happening to several users over the last 24 hours. It's happened to me twice since yesterday. Hhere's a reddit thread on the subject:

Does Mojang have any updates to this? I'm getting constant crashes, would like to know why

this is so bad to the point i cant even make realms for my freinds anymore. the lag from my freinds just playing is bad enough i had to look up hours of info trying to fix it. the server crashes around every 1-3 hours and it roles back and (im not sure but) i think it roles back to the last save on ur backups which can be 30 mins ago and it makes all of us not even want to play the realm anymore. i dont turn on cheats cause me and my freinds want to get achivements. i think it could be the player count cause theres 11 ppl on so if anyones looking for a way to fix this just dont have freinds that want to play ig. please try to fix this mojang

ALSO THIS IS A JAVA REPORT NOT A BEDROCK REPORT ITS HAPPENING TO US ON BEDROCK WAY WORSE

1.19.3 and it keeps happening, pretty annoying. Lost about 3-4 hours of progress the other day.

still happening in 2023 and they wont do anything about it. making the game horrible to play. not worth it most of the time

Same as tjmxx below me.
Since 3rd December 2022 we've been experiencing resets of like 30 to up to 40 minutes on our Realm. It's taking away the fun of this awesome game 😞 Please, please, please do something about this.

Some of the duplicate issues, as well as [REALMS-11296] seem to highlight the issue a little better. With all the duplicates and votes hopefully this gets some considerable attention soon 🙂

Seems to be something to do with saving the realm whilst players are online.
Realm will consistently crash every 40 minutes or so losing all progress since last save.
Extremely frustrating. Any updates?

Can someone explain to me how people are still paying for Realms in 2023 when game breaking issues have been unresolved since 2020?

Yeah, I've stopped paying for realms and moved onto a better service. $10+ a month for a service that will randomly revoke a half hour of progress is unplayable.
I will say that my realms was running fine until a couple months ago though, and we had been using it for about a year, so I'm not sure why the realms wasn't bugging out until then.

yeah, this still happens. maybe it's some kind of repl failure. really aggravating.

This error has occurred twice in the last week in a 1.20.1 Realm. This is our first experience with this error in any Realm since joining my first one in 2020.
With the recent 1.20 update we have invested a lot of time in builds, exploration and other game progress. It is extremely discouraging to lose progress. Multiple players on the realm decided to stop playing sooner than they originally planned because of tonight's lost time.
We are discussing cancelling the subscription and moving to a third party service. Occasional crashes or downtime is expected with any cloud service, within the commitments of the terms of service, but losing game progress is unacceptable.
Does anyone know if it's possible to trigger Realm backups manually or more frequently?
Edit: This has happened now a total of four times in one week. This impacts 3 to 6 players at a time, reverting at least 30 minutes, and up to 60 minutes of effort. That is a maximum player-time loss of 6 hours per event. This is unacceptable. Are there any known tips or workarounds to reduce the probability of this issue?

My friends and I are having this issue as well. We had our progress reverted three times in one day while doing a building project. We haven't played on the realm since because we feel we will just lose all or a considerable amount of the progress we make.

Yup happens to me too. I'm on Java 1.20.1 and every couple hours, I'll be kicked or see the server start to hiccup, like with chests not opening and dropped items not being picked up. After I get kicked or log off, it'll take a while to log back on and when I do, it's reverted to about 30 minutes of progress previous to where I left it. My world is fairly large, about 12 or 13 Gb right now. I wonder if world size has anything to do with it?

Fixing this issue is LONG overdue. Get this done MOJANG.

I can now practically confirm this is world size related. Have a realm world that is about 15 GB in size, most of that coming from all of the loaded chunk regions of course. At backup times, everyone is disconnected and the world rolls back to the last successful backup. 'Forcing' a backup/world save by having all players disconnect and remain disconnected for at least 5-10 minutes is a rather consistent but evidently disruptive solution. Loading other realm worlds of less than around 8-10 GB sizes and playing on those demonstrates hardly any issues at all. Additionally, after downloading the large world, deleting the chunk region data to trim the size down to less than 5 GB, and re-uploading the world 'fixes' the rollback/kicking issues, but of course deletes builds, reloads chunks, etc. Given these tests, it's quite apparent that the world sizes (and their inability to be backed up) are the cause. Unfortunately, for the time being, paying for a server hosting service is the most viable way to keep playing online on a world with considerable progress, even if you have a relatively small group.

This infuriating issue has been happening DAILY for us on our realm the past 2 weeks. Every single time it happens, we lose 30 minutes or more of progress. Realms is no longer receiving any of my money until this issue is fixed, this is unacceptable.

This is now happening every single time anyone plays on your Realm that i so generously PAY for. Are you fixing this or should i cancel the subsription. With support like this and practically not functional servers you might as well shut the whole Realms service down. Absolute descrace and scam. The dude linked my report to an unresolved bug report from 2020. Is this a joke i am furius. FIX THIS NOW PLEASE!!! There is not time to waste 3 years is more than long enough.

I was experiencing this on a large map (25 GB), which is why I am also convinced the issue is brought on by a too large file.
I have now downloaded the map and used MCA Selector to delete all chunks that hadn't been visited for more than a minute (useless chunks generated during exploration). Doing this on all three dimensions shrunk the file size from 25.6 GB to 1.9 GB (!!).
The trimmed map is re-uploaded to the Realm and perfectly functional. Backups are loading fine and there are no more crashes. Everything important on the map is still there and the file was just unnecessarily inflated. I am personally very happy with this bandaid fix.

It happens on Bedrock realms too. 2 of the possible 10 people were online, and we were in the same area. For each of us the game still let us move and place blocks, but we couldn't interact with anything. Shortly after, we were disconnected and the game rolled back 30mins of progress. World size is about 250MB, and we have a few resource packs enabled.

Progress rollbacks happen when the game crashes while people are playing. We've made some improvements to the Realms service since this bug was filed and losing progress should be extremely rare now. If this happens to you, please contact Mojang Support so we can take a look at your world and see what's causing the crash.

This is happening to our realm too, sometimes when 1 person is online, sometimes 3 people. We all get disconnected and lose half an hour of progress.
Yeah, a ton of people are getting that right now, me and my friends included. Let's hope it's fixed soon.
