Chat has been working great until the Better Together update. Now when either party sends a chat it seems to work, but only for that person. The other person does not see the chats. Chat was not muted. We had to communicate by writing to each other on signs.

No, it just doesn't show up for the other person at all. The Entering and Leaving realm messages show up for everyone, but when someone tries to chat nothing shows up for the other person. I've checked the mute settings multiple times, and mute is not turned on.
have they friended each other on xbox we were having the same issue. Tthat or Could also be a privacy setting in xbox which only allows message from friend.
It's on Pocket Edition and Windows 10 edition. We are friends. I have checked all of the privacy settings. It was working fine until the Better Together update which is ironic, because it is not better together when we can't chat. I am about ready to cancel Realms and set up a private server.
