Realm Render Distance Reduced After Release of 1.18

The realm that my family has been playing on for the past few months had it's render distanced statically reduced when 1.18 released. I loaded up the client and then the game. Went to my realm list and restarted our world so we could have a fresh start and out of no where all I see is fog. I've tried increasing the render distance and simulation distance but nothing seems to bring it back to how it used to be. Prior to the 1.18 update, when we were playing on our realm, we were playing on default settings. When I bought the realm and created the world, I didn't change any settings. Is there a way for the render distance to be fixed back to default?

I can confirm this issue, on the same world I was using before 1.18, you can't see as far as before. The render distance is definitely lower than it was before.  It was borderline not enough before so hoping this is indeed a bug and not the new norm.

I am playing on a laptop with Windows 10. If further specs are needed please let me know.

I'm having the same issue, I think it has to do with the realm's internal simulation distance setting being set to 10 and being unable to be changed. Hopefully, this can be fixed

@markderickson

With all due respect the ticket you linked is tracking rendering distance issues for servers and not for Minecraft realms. This is why I created a separate ticket.

Ah, thanks a lot for bringing that to my attention! Based on the content and duplicates of MC-243216, both that issue and this issue seem to be describing the same problem, and the report in the Java Edition project seems to just have been reported in the wrong project. In this case, two things could be done: this report could be used as a new parent and all duplicates of MC-243216 could be changed to duplicates of this report, or MC-243216 could be moved to the Realms project. Ultimately, the decision is up to the moderator or Mojang Studios employee who takes a look at the reports.

I appreciate the clarification. What (if any) actions do I need to take to have the general issue reviewed? I have no problem if it's tracked via another ticket as long as the overall issue is resolved.

If this ticket will be considered a duplicate, can somebody please link me the ticket that I should actually follow. I understand that there are quite a few duplicates right now.

Thanks for the report, Eric! It looks like there may be different issues for both Java and Bedrock. We are currently investigating.

Thank you for the follow up @CornerHard. I'm glad to see there is some traction on this. I hope to be able to see the beautiful vistas soon!
