Skins not showing up between Minecraft Java 1.3.1 to 1.7.8

On this article published yesterday https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4408894664461-Minecraft-Java-Edition-Skins, and it says "Skin changes in Minecraft version 1.7.9 and later should happen immediately. If you are playing version 1.7.8 or an earlier version, skin changes may take up to an hour to be applied"

So, when you upload a classic skin (which is the original format before 1.8 was released, and you play 1.7.9 and later, everything is fine, but when you play Minecraft 1.7.8 or any earlier, the skin just doesn't work, the default Steve skin appears

I know some older versions of Minecraft can no longer have skins but it clearly says "If you are playing version 1.3 or earlier, skin changes will not be reflected in-game"

And skins between Minecraft 1.3.1 to 1.7.8 should be compatible

And this problem happens to many people :

This is also on 1.8.9, the skins don't even show up on tab list rn.

Hi, I've tried this out with a Microsoft account and updated my skin via Minecraft Launcher, and then tested multiplayer 1.18.2 and 1.8.9, as well as singleplayer 1.7.8. The skin appears different across versions depending on if you have a second layer, but it does appear. Could you please provide more information on the steps you took, what skin you tried with, etc.?

I've been able to repro this issue with 1.7.7 and 1.7.2. We will look into what's causing the issue and see if we either can fix it or update our FAQ pages to better reflect which versions support what type of skin.

I updated the report, hope you can do something

I also made a feedback here which talks about this problem on Legacy versions before 1.3, I hope it will not be deleted again for some reason

Edit : The feedback was deleted, can someone expain me why ???

Hi I come back because I don't understand something with the skins before Minecraft 1.3 and before
In the article it says that the skins can no longer be changed on these old versions (it's because the skin server has changed I know), but it's perfectly possible to do so
When you launch these versions, the LegacyLauncher or the launchwrapper is used to be able to launch them correctly, it allows you to modify the behavior of the game without really modifying it (I think I'm explaining badly)
But it is perfectly possible to modify the LegacyLauncher so that it can provide the skins to the game, and I managed to do it
I made a fork of the LegacyLauncher available here (it's a fork that fixes another fork that has already been created to fix this problem, you can see it on GitHub)
And as you can see on the screenshot, I managed to change my skin on Minecraft 1.0 while "it's not possible" (and it's not modded), just with a few lines of code added to the LegacyLauncher

So, please, is it possible that one day we can officially have the skins back on the Legacy versions of Minecraft ?

But for this subject, am I in the wrong place ? do I need to move to an MCL issue ?

Hi, idk if this issue continues to be taken into account but I found an old issue here https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/WEB-1429 talking about the old authentification servers being shut down, but these old servers is what makes the skins not working in legacy version of Minecraft

But in this page there is a not from your team saying "We are looking to to re-introduce these endpoints so you can enjoy older version of Minecraft: Java Edition. The team will look into this during October-December 2022."

So if these endpoints are reintroduced the skins will be back on legacy versions of Minecraft ? Do you have any infos about that pls ?
