To wrap up and save time:
What I expected to happen was...:
Successfully link Microsoft and Playstation accounts at game registration.
What actually happened was...:
I can't connect my PSN account to an MSN account because it says I am already "connected" to an MSN account. (Online co-op play will NEVER be possible.)
Steps to Reproduce:
Install and run the game with your PSN account as Online. (The game won't run in Bedrock if you are not.)
Skip all the world updates (if you have them) to get to the MSN account link invitation. On your PC open the recommended page and successfully log into your Microsoft Network Account.
(To create the glitch, I'm assuming you must have an outdated MSN account "auto logged-in" so that you don't realize that when the code says in your browser that you have successfully linked accounts, you inadvertently connected to a red-herring that will become inaccessible as soon as you log into a legitimate MSN account later in that browser.)
Watch at the PSN Bedrock version of the game runs a "processing" screen that shows that MSN is communicating with your game... (this will NEVER resolve.)
When you lose patience–or the game console goes to sleep finally due to inactivity–watch as the game tells you that you can't log in with your MSN account because it is already connected with an account.
CRY.
Try to find a customer service rep across the 3 major corporations that share Minecraft rights, and maybe reach out to the Dev, too, but they don't have customer service.
Wait.
Rinse and repeat.
Get frustrated rinsing and repeating and search youtube for work arounds.
rinse and repeat.
Continue this for hours in your freetime, and keep trying for months and months.
( 😉 get the idea?)
What version of Minecraft are you running?
PS4 Minecraft Bedrock version updated to the most current version as of May 27, 2020.
Thanks for trying.
Hope you don't mind the frustrated snark too much.
Feel free to email me a response when it's fixed. I may crack open a cold one–or a bottle of wine with my wife–pay for a year-long PSN subscription and binge-play for 3 days with my nephews in the next state. Maybe even buy some add-on content if all the accounts are working properly.
Note to readers: the delete account is on this same page as this bug file, only in the summary section. (Follow link here to delete account.)
https://bugs.mojang.com/projects/MCPE/summary
CAUTION: deleting an account means losing all data with Mojang for that account, assumedly. If you did a digital purchase, it is safe to assume the game will be gone as well as the profile. Unless it can be reloaded from a gamestore like PSN or XBOX Live, deleter beware!
I bought Java online, so I will need to clarify in my delete request that my Java account linked to this email should not be touched. The bedrock account linked to my PSN account linked to my email I don't care about because I have a hard copy, so they can "delete away", as long as it doesn't hurt my ability to reload and reconnect to the PSN again. (none of those things are stated clearly.) Why doesn't Mojang (or mega-goliath billionaire company Microsoft that owns them now) just offer a CS line?
I may just buy a new computer and play java and forget all this headache with facilitating all the gazillion in-game-purchases.
Feedback given to Sony CS after the second call earlier today:
"The agent Sarah, and Manager Vamsi were unable to resolve the issue, because it is not an issue that Sony has control over. However the developer posted on the Sony support page: https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360035131711-Transfer-from-PS3-to-PS4-Vita that "The PlayStation Editions of Minecraft are developed by 4J Studios, and support is provided by PlayStation. For help with your PlayStation games, purchases, accounts or hardware, please contact PlayStation Support."
That means that Mojang, and Sony both are not taking responsibility for the issue, and it is causing an irreparable issue for the game. The only solution I haven't tried is to discard my PSN profile and create a totally different account to play Minecraft. I have 11 years of account history with Sony, so I would lose that many years of digital purchases. This is VERY BAD!
Sony is unable to provide a Mojang contact to reach, but cannot resolve the issue. Some people have been able to resolve this issue in youtube tutorials, but many people like myself still remain with the accounts unable to be corrected. The issue has persisted for 6 months with no corporate entity taking ownership and resolving the issue--only community members with the "delete saved game data" fix have found a workaround for some.
CS did their best to help and were wonderful, but I cannot give a better rating because the issue isn't resolved.
I was advised to write a letter to corporate, and I guess that is what I will have to do summarizing this issue with hopes that the political people in the systems can leverage the agencies enough that someone will take ownership."
More progress made on this:
There are videos on youtube how to link up a new MSN account by removing the Save Game Data files on your PS4 in the Storage part of the drive. That has worked for some users, however in my case it is still not effective. I don't know what the specific cause in the case of my console is, but it seems it isn't a console issue–rather a network-provider or game-to-provider issue.
(did not work)
I spoke to 2 CS agents and a CS manager at Sony today. They confirmed that this is not something they have access to resolve and that it has to be addressed by the developer.
(did not work)
I went to the 4J webpage and sent them an email to raise awareness and ask for help. No response yet (same day).
(pending)
I went into MSN accounts, and when I enter the MSN information, activate sync in game and then put the code in the MSN network, it asks for my login password for the PSN and when the code is accepted tells me that I am already "connected". (This implies that MSN is doing their part and functioning correctly.) The error report onscreen seems to confirm this theory as well:
[See playstation image attachment]
(did not work)
The most catastrophic FAIL today was trying to delete the entire game to see if the linking data was somehow connected to the save game files (other than Save Game Data files), or maybe somehow linked to system related data files. Years of gameplay on Bedrock and Legacy Edition games were lost as a result, and the fail-to-login image you see above was taken after all the data was deleted. The SAME error screen I have been getting all along. In one of the videos showing the fix, the troubleshooter even experiences the same thing: a wait/processing image populates and never resolves unless cancelled, and then gives the above image. (That part really pissed me off, and my wife was so patient and consoling as I grieved the loss of all those maps–including the original Tutorial maps I built on when I first got Legacy edition, and the PS3 maps I played with my little niece and Nephew that are no longer transferrable to PS4 because that option was removed a couple weeks ago.)
(EPIC FAIL)
Finally, I found that Minecraft.net has a "delete account" option, and I tried asking them to delete the "LongingJet81" account as long as it doesn't bug up my ability to use my PSN profile in game. Let's see if that works... The problem: there is no actual "LongingJet81" Minecraft profile. I never owned an xbox live or bedrock version of Minecraft for computer, so I don't know how they will delete an account that doesn't exist. it is a datapoint that connects MSN to PSN.
(Pending)
If deleting the infamous (or fictitious) MSN account works, I may finally have my freedom, and be willing to spend a little bit of in-game currency for skins, packs, upgrades, etc. After all, isn't that what this is all about anyway? (A working monetary system that links across platforms for people to buy in-game stuff?) Java was so much easier, and a free market system. I could even make my own skins and use them. I miss that.
(rant)
Please: figure out where the sync is happening and create a way to unlink accounts. Give warnings and confirmation popups if needs be, but clearly communicated opt-outs or disconnects are very direly needed. I would consider that a resolution to this ticket.
(Pleading to the devs in their higher state of being...)
I've tried things on the Microsoft side of things and even removed the saved data files from my minecraft files on the device. It is somewhere between Microsoft and Sony, I suspect... maybe if Sony had a way to access the saved files in their account histories?
I have deleted an old Microsoft account that I never use, and yet the game keeps telling me that "longingjet81" is already logged in... newsflash: longingjet81 no longer exists. Now there is only 1nsyte... or [insert user's email here] linked to 1nsyte (and x_1nsyte_x on Playstation3 because they wouldn't let me start a name with a numeral).
When I try to link from the updated Microsoft profile it just gives the signing in graphic with the "cancel" option, and it never succeeds to sync. But by canceling it auto-connects to x_1nsyte_x. This is even after removing all of the saved game files (with the cog icon in the image) on the console (that means I left all the maps on the console only). That game behavior tells me the problem is probably somewhere in Sony's databases. All they would need to do is add an option in their profile data to resubmit a Microsoft account sync. Or better yet: delete Microsoft account info from profile–because I know Sony is very protective of their information... and heck, I would be too working with Microsoft. "I don't like you either!" I would tell them in my best Star Wars accent.
RANT:
(WTF does Microsoft give out such stupid default identities anyway? That would have saved me so many hours of hating their creepster name that default-attributed to my profile. "LongingJet81," really? Sounds like a geriatric pedophile–in Minecraft no less! SO WRONG!)
I wish they had been a little better about coaching people to check their accounts before syncing, because I haven't done anything with Microsoft for over 10 years. My email was connected to an old account created by default in an outdated game that I don't even recall.
Searching the net I found a post with 19k views addressign this bug. The conversation was closed by MSN editors, so I reopened it in the Microsoft Community expressing concern and seeking workarounds:
