This issue has been happening DAILY! We first noticed it with 2.16 update and it has continued through 2.17, 2.18, 2.19, and 2.20.
Setup:
i.) Original PS4 running latest system software.
ii.) Two PSN accounts (both currently have this PS4 as primary and each has an associated Microsoft account)
iii.) Minecraft Disk (neither account owns the digital version)
iv.) PS4 is left in Rest mode overnight (*Rest mode settings are at the bottom)
I found the following workarounds and suggestions through internet searches but not all of them have worked…
Method A (more "thorough" method)
1.) Backed up worlds (both profiles - on USB and cloud)
2.) Disabled internet (Network > Connect to the Internet, uncheck)
3.) Uninstalled Minecraft (Storage > Extended Storage > Applications > Options Delete)
4.) Deleted App Data from both profiles and all map saves (Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Delete)
5.) Ejected Disk
6.) Powered off PS4 and waited a few minutes
7.) Powered back on
8.) Reinserted Minecraft Disk
9.) Waited for app to install
10.) Started Minecraft to make sure it worked
11.) Closed app
12.) Enabled internet
13.) Checked for update
14.) Waited for update to install
15.) Started Minecraft for profile #1 and verified it worked (including logging back into Microsoft Account).
16.) Closed Minecraft
17.) Repeated test for profile #2
18.) Restored all map saves from USB (both profiles)
19.) Re-download all map templates and texture packs for both profiles.
20.) Retested both profiles and verified they can open Minecraft with Microsoft accounts.
Method B ("Quick" method)
Same as above except:
i.) Didn't turn off/on internet connectivity.
ii.) Didn't power off/on PS4.
iii.) Deleted App Data but not Map Saves
Method B has also been successful - I think I started using it with version 2.17 or 2.18. UPDATE 12/18/2020: Workaround also works with v2.20.
Method C ("Trigger" method)
Holding L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 + Option + Trackpad at Mojang screen has never worked for me but I only tried that with versions 2.17, 2.18, and 2.19.
Method D (Create New Local Only User)
Creating a new local only user and trying to open up Minecraft (without reinstalling) has never worked for me. I think I tried this method starting with version 2.18.
In Conclusion: I’ve been using Method B since I discovered it but it is ludicrous that every day the logon goes bad and the templates for the maps have to be force downloaded. (Minecraft will “prompt” that it is installing a template when a map save is opened but it actually doesn’t – the map will load without proper functionality[for example - a custom furniture map]). I've also tried leaving the PS4 on - which does work to prolong being able to go in and out of Minecraft, play other games, or watch Netflix, Hulu, etc in-between and Minecraft still works. However, our PS4 is very old and I don't want to have to leave it on 24/7 just for Minecraft. Please let me know if there is any other information about the settings that could be of use!
*Rest Mode Settings:
Set Time Until PS4 Turns Off
Media Playback = After 4 Hours
General (Applications) = After 1 Hour
Set Features Available in Rest Mode
Supply Power to USB Ports = 3 Hours
Stay Connected to the Internet = Enabled
Enable Turning On PS4 from Network = Enabled
Enable Turning On PS4 from Spotify = Disabled
Keep Application Suspended = Enabled
Note: Minecraft is not usually left on and unattended for an hour. However sometimes other games or TV apps are left on and paused eventually leading to Rest mode triggering.
1. The issue continues although now it has become unpredictable.
Before it was only happening after we put the PS4 into standby mode.
Now we may be able to open Minecraft a few times and then suddenly it's stuck on the Mojang screen again.
2. The button combo to bypass the logon issue still doesn't work for us. PS4 w/disk running latest version as of 01/01/2021.
3. Minecraft has also started crashing while re-downloading the maps/templates (subsequent to uninstalling/reinstalling Minecraft as a workaround for the issue).
Now we only re-download individual maps we intend to play at that moment - else we get stuck in an infinite loop.
When I have time, I am going to try to investigate which maps (or file sizes) cause the crashes.
Note: This time after uninstalling/reinstalling Minecraft we noticed one of the maps has a "timer" above the download button.
I'm assuming that means the map is being removed from the store. Since maps are unplayable without the template - we are now going to start losing access to worlds where we've put in dozens and dozens of hours (regardless of having backups of the world itself).
I'll be able to confirm if this happens on or around 01/05/2021.
